    Don’t normally like destruction videos, but having bought the Stählern some time ago and being impressed with it, I wanted to see what you found. You succeeded in confirming for me I spent my $40 well. I was curious as to how the aluminum part of the tang was held on, figuring that would be a weak point. Never tried to take the scales off though. Thanks for doing it for me. I am actually impressed with how they did it. Is it full tang? Not really, but I would call it 98% tang, good enough for me.
    I understand that the SwissTech Stählern is a Walmart exclusive. I have another Walmart exclusive knife in the Gerber Prodogy fine edge. Another very good knife. I like them both, but somehow the Stählern seems to find myself in my hand more often. A third Walmart knife ts the 11 inch fixed blade, a Buck Reaper knockoff. It is my dedicated battening knife. It has somehow survived almost 4 years now, but after watching your video, it might just find itself being left at home, it appears that the Stählern is more than capable on its own. Thanks again!

    Great test. Guess I was wrong about the heat trest, must just be the Aus8 because mine seems to need sharpening a bit more than it should. I was surprised to see it take that much of a bend and stay straight. Although I don't like the boxy handle on it, now I know I can depend on it if I have to.

    • @TheRealSwampOperator2
      @TheRealSwampOperator2 6 месяцев назад +1

      Aus 8 isn't some super steel. It's not gonna hold an edge like crowbar.
      But it will resharpen easily. Even on the edge of a car window.
      And it will hold a working edge for a respectable amount of time.
      I have a 4 way fingernail file, about as thick as a credit card. It'll touch that blade up proper.
      Not so much with my benchmade bushcraft 😂

  • @TheRealSwampOperator2
    @TheRealSwampOperator2 6 месяцев назад +2

    I aint gonna lie, man they are hard to beat for the price.. i sharpen mine with a damn 4 way fingernail buffer all the time. It touches up real easy.
    Now with that being said, it wont hold that hair popping edge for a long time.but it will maintain a good working edge for a good while... and literally you can sharpen it up on anything.
    Its not prone to chip or roll either.
    Its a really good buy for under 40 bucks

  • @tsmspace
    @tsmspace 6 месяцев назад +2

    Just my first impression about the aluminum lanyard hole,, well,, even if you polish steel as it starts to wear out the carbides will be exposed, and the steel will wear the lanyard much more quickly than aluminum would. So besides the flashy color (for better visibility) ,, I think an aluminum hole would make for a much better lifetime for the lanyard, and that one time you didn't know how fast it was wearing might be that one time you drop the knife or worse, lose it.

    So I watched another video on this and the guy made a comment about the aluminum spacer which makes a little sense. He said they may have done it to bring the blade balance a little forward towards the tip. But also I know Swiss Tech uses the anodized aluminum for more of a eye catcher too. They may have unknowingly balanced the blade better. Either way, I just bought one the other day because a friend of mine pointed it out while we were buying fishing gear. I haven't used it yet but I'm eager to after your test!

    I'm gonna say something a tad bit controversial but it's my opinion. I...... recommend this over the Gerber Strongarm. Reason I say that is this thing is a tank and it sits at 10 dollars below the ORIGINAL Strongarm price which has jumped from being 50 bucks to freaking 90. While this can be had for 40 bucks and after seeing you wrench on it this thing is beefy. Also correct me if I'm wrong but looking at specs it seems that AUS-8 steel is a tad better than 420HC but that could be chalked up to personal preference and the manufacturer of the steel.

    Batoning with a knife to "test" it for "durability" is like taking a Supercar out on the Dakar Rally to test it's "performance".
    No responsible knife owner who actually LIKES his tools would ever do this in any. real-world situation. This is what hand axes, wedges, and mauls are for.
    If you regularly find yourself in the need to split wood, but aren't prepared enough for life to own a hand axe, you probably shouldn't be trusted to own any. tool sharper than a plastic spork, let alone be trying to baton tough-grained exotic wood with a sheath knife, FFS.
    I genuinely worry for the future of the human race...
    (All this said, I own this knife, as well as the Wurdig folder, and consider them both to be VERY good knives for the price. They might not be the prettiest knives I own, but they certainly are some of the most rugged...)

    • @peterbiltknifeguy
      @peterbiltknifeguy  6 месяцев назад +2

      To your first statement I strongly disagree. How can one test for durability without testing for durability??? Makes no sense. Are you serious or are you being a keyboard warrior troll? Because I clearly stated my opinion on that subject in the video.
      Now that second opinion of yours. If someone wants to baton the knife they purchase that’s none of your concern. And I don’t know about you. But I never see people on the day to day walking around with a hatchet. 99.9% of people would be lucky to have a fixed blade on them let alone an axe 🤦🏻‍♂️
      And third. Not many people “find themselves in the need to split wood with with a knife”… it’s a TEST. A test that people on RUclips perform so you can feel comfortable with the purchase of an item. Ever see crash testing in cars? To see how safe they are? To test for durability and weaknesses???For real man 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️
      And finally. I’m glad you’re happy with your knife 👍
