  • It was a calm evening on August 31, 2023, when a shoplifting case at the ShopRite on 900 Madison Street disturbed the normalcy of the Hoboken Police Department. Officers Christopher Barral and Dominick Allegretta rushed to the location, where they met a known shoplifter - 28-year-old Alexandra Zalewski. Alexandra was held in the loss prevention office by the store staff, and as Officer Barral and Officer Allegretta took over, the complex details of the case became clear. A veteran loss prevention manager stated their wish to press charges, revealing that this was not Alexandra’s first time stealing from the store. In fact, the store had video evidence of her previous shoplifting incidents. The loss prevention officer gave them a detailed list, showing the total value of the stolen items, which was about $106. Based on the information from the body camera footage, Alexandra had tried to pay for only some items at the checkout, hiding the rest in a reusable shopping bag. Her repeated behavior, as seen on the video, showed a habit of shoplifting. With undeniable proof in their possession, Officer Barral decided to handcuff Alexandra. They took her to the Hoboken Police Department for booking, starting the legal consequences for the suspect. Once inside the station, Alexandra went through the usual steps of fingerprinting and photographing, officially charged with one count of shoplifting merchandise under $200 (2C:20-11B(2)). This action, however, did not mean a long stay in custody. After following the proper procedure, Alexandra was quickly released with a summons to appear in court, leaving the outcome of her case to the legal system.

I had to fast forward after she was arrested to when they got to the police station because it was mostly just the cop driving and at the angle of his camera, you just see parts of the buildings and the sky. It wasn’t that interesting. Just another shoplifter looking shocked that they’re being arrested. But she was mature enough to not have a meltdown, she didn’t resist being arrested by running or fighting the cops and she didn’t act like she’s too good to be arrested. I really hope she learned her lesson.

NEVER STEAL FROM SHOPRITE, they have private security and they don't follow shoprites rules, i remember my first week as a cart pusher back in the day some guy tried to steal diapers, he tried to run and they tackled him and he started fighting back so they followed up with punches, they gave him a decent beating, i don't know if they still do it like that but they don't f around, it's a few shoprites in my area and theres always a state trooper there taking someone to jail, pretty sure they're one of the most successful grocery store catching thieves, i just don't understand why people go there out of all the places to steal from

Criminals develop rituals, which become a big part of recidivism. Almost like rituals in a drug addiction. These are certain routines or sequences they visualize beforehand, and thinking of them gives the offender a sense of control and strategy, and a feeling of a kind of mastery in the deed.
What they often fail to realize is that while attending to these reassuring rituals, they're actually establishing patterns that law enforcement is happy to identify. It's these patterns that usually end in the arrest, if the offender has been committing crimes in series.

Shoplifting is an evil crime and needs harsh penalties, it harms the lowest income and weakest of our population. When prices rise from shoplifting loss, the lowest income get hurt the most, as the elderly on fixed income. And worse as stores close due to losses, again, added transportation adds costs to the lowest income, and the elderly may not have transportation nor able to take public transportation easily.
Shoplifting is an evil crime, sounds like a low harm crime, but ask the elderly in a community that lost its pharmacy and grocery store….. how is their life now? All because some punks are too lazy to work for their things and demand instant gratification……. Likely due to the epidemic of fatherless homes, no one to teach respect, responsibility, discipline, dignity, accountability, civility, work ethic, what is required to take part in polite society.
This girl is shocked by being arrested. The store should post every punks pic that got arrested. Because their jobs depend on it and the community needs the store!!

What she was doing is wrong but it amazes me how they can take one person to jail while droves of thieves blatantly walk into a store and steal openly. So the lesson here is to be a certain color and have many thieves with you. Then they won't stop you.
As I said what she did was wrong but why don't they stop big time thieves? That openly steal. Just asking.
