Man Loses His Mind Over A Pack Of Cigarettes, Assaults Officer!

- A convenience store clerk called the police on March 24, 2023, in the evening, about a man who had stolen a pack of cigarettes. The clerk had asked the man for his ID, but he took the cigarettes and refused to show his ID or pay. Deputy Jones arrived and talked to the clerk, who said the man had left the store without showing his ID. Deputy Jones asked the man, Justin, to leave. Justin was hostile and uncooperative and claimed the First Amendment protected his right to not show his ID. He threw a cigarette at the clerk, and Deputy Jones decided to charge him. Deputy Smith came to help. Justin resisted arrest and was charged with aggravated battery, petty theft, and resisting an officer without violence. The deputies were patient and professional. Justin was taken to the sheriff’s office. He was upset and angry and worried about losing his children. The deputies secured him in the police car and prevented any injury.

WTH is so difficult about showing your ID??? It’s not the fault of the lady in the store. She has to follow the law in regards to selling cigarettes. She could be in legal trouble if she doesn’t ask for ID.

@@angiesmith8697 the store I’m working at sells cigarettes too. We have to scan their ID before the checkout will move to the next step to let them cash out. We don’t have a choice.

I am 49 and I use Zyn pouches. The store down the street automatically scans everyone's ID for tobacco purchases to cover their butts. I can either let them do that or I can go further down the street.

I went to get my 40 year old daughter some Zyns and they wanted to scan my ID. I chose to buy elsewhere. If they wanted to just look at it, that's one thing...but to scan who I am, where I live and what I'm purchasing, in my opinion is a 4th amendment violation. I chose to keep that information private rather than allow the government to track who I am and what I'm buying. Are we really "free" under those circumstances? To each his own I guess.

Funny thing with some stores is, if he would've came in there with both a mature attitude/demeanor and physically looked his age, they wouldn't have carded him at all and just acted like it was a regular sale, like a local liquor store I used to always get my spirits from back in my hometown. Still, all he had to do was simply just show her some form of ID or either go elsewhere.
