As soon as you started taping the bottom of the window I grabbed my popcorn and went to the comments. I was not disappointed.
Bro is entertained by tape 😂
@@frankfurt11😂😂. you're not supposed to put tape under the window. It captures potential water that might run behind the siding.
I’m right here with you 😂😂
Hahahahahah literally same 😂
@@frankfurt11I’m entertained by his logic
Never seen siding ran up without staggering the joints.🤔
I was wondering the same!
Think there’s a reason you haven’t seen it that way😂
He covers it in the video and you can plainly see it at the end. This particular siding has seam strips to hide it the seams if you opt not to stagger the siding.
@beanieweenie9543 I clearly saw the video and understood what he said. I myself have never seen it done this way before.
Cause he’s wrong
Stagger your siding seams then no trim pieces on middle of wall only at inside and outside corners install a flashing piece behind the seam
Absolutely brilliant
Yes.should have step staggered the siding. Widows are also going to give him problems. Not flashed right. Hopefully he does widows and fixes them. Love the videos.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who was thinking that way.
Definitely stagger the seams. I've never seen anybody do that
He covered it in the video, this particular siding has seam strips so you do not have to stagger this siding.
If your doing the house wrap and it’s mostly the same height around cut your roll to the height with the chop saw
I am having a hard time finding anything that was done properly on this install. No flashing at the roof line under the siding, didn’t stagger seams, windows taped incorrectly, trim should have gone on before siding. Guy who knows nothing about construction giving advice to people and making money off it, what a time to be alive.
The black flashing tape should have gone on TOP of the tyvek to seal it to the window, cut the tyvek about an inch short of the window so the tape has a place to stick to the house and the tyvek, there should be no black flashing tape applied to the bottom of the window because you trap moisture which will eventually rot out the bottom plate under the window. On your siding you should NEVER line up the seems over each other, you always stagger them to keep them from leaking, they also make a piece of "flashing" to go behind the seams that laps over the bottom row so the water can't get behind it.
Exactly
I'm just a weekend warrior as they say and even I caught the mistake with the siding - like installing floating wood flooring - never line up the seams. Really surprised our guy here made those mistakes.
You CAN use tape at the bottom, but it is applied before the window is installed. But you are correct, in a case like this where he is installing new Tyvek with existing windows, tape both sides and then across the top but nothing at the bottom.
I thought it looked weird but decided maybe his state had different thoughts 😅 I've liked all the other houses he's done but this one I've just been catching wrong things left and right.
@@ashleyterry6424he literally said it goes on top but the state requires them to put on in that order. Some of these people didn’t listen to video lol
Looks pretty good but it feel like you really rushed this. You should have either held the siding back the width of the trim boards or installed the trim boards first so that they would have butted up edge to edge, like around the garage door, not stacked on top of each other. Now you have massive gaps behind the trim due to the it being on top of the angled siding which will make it difficult to water seal. You can still remedy this before you go any further by removing the trim and using an oscillating tool to trim the siding back. The old trim was done right and there were no gaps, also when you go to replace the windows you will have to cut the siding in order to free them since you put the siding over the nailing lip, at least in some places. Probably would have been better to also remove all the planters and concrete touching the house before you started.
You are not supposed to tape the bottom of the window. You effectively had made it worse then no tape at all because if the old windows leak which they probably do you now trapped the moisture/water in at the bottom and will rot the house.
He should've put the flashing tape on the outside of the house wrap instead of under it. It's also weird to cover the siding seams with a trim instead of staggering the siding.
@@stingray52 I think taping the flange is probably a debatable point because house wrap isn’t perfect at keeping water out behind it so if water is to get behind it and the tape is on the outside it could get behind the window. So I’m not that concerned with that but taping the bottom is definitely a no no and yea I agree not staggering the seams looks terrible
@@stingray52don’t forget things are code specific by state. I’m in nj and we tape the bottom here, is it different in other states and regions yea most likely.
I find it strange that you didn't put any insulation down prior to installing the tyvek. Also you always want to stagger the siding so it keeps from leaking. The way you installed the back siding is not going to hold up long-term. I highly encourage you to go back and fix it before there's more damage down the road.
Yes! Came here for the siding seams all lined up.
He covered it in the video this particular siding does not have to be staggered it has seam strips to cover it which you can plainly see at the end of the video
Everything about this siding job just screams future disasters. The amount of things done wrong is absolutely mind blowing and scary to think about. $3500 is a good price but when its done wrong your costing yourself more money and harm then you are saving. You would have been better off if you paid the 10k to have the job done properly.
What ndid he do wrong
You need some flashing where the garage roof meets the main house wall.
It's crazy how close the neighbor next to the garage is so close, but the other neighbor is far away.
I’m surprised your making the house nice and keeping those original windows
Makes zero sense. Should’ve budgeted accordingly for them
For the love of god, stagger your siding seams and NEVER tape/liquid applied flash the bottom of your window.
He covers it in the video and you can plainly see it at the end this particular siding does not have to be staggered they make seam strips for it
I would have bumped out the front foot section to make it flush with the other outside walls giving the interior more room
Out of curiosity. Why didn't you stagger your joints on the siding?
Sounds like a trim piece is going to cover them.
Cuz he doesn't know what he's doing.
The material needs a 1/8” gap for expansion. So you lay trim over that.
I wondered the same thing. I just had Hardee board installed and they staggered the seams.
@@Unbreathlessyou can still leave the 1/8 expansion gap and still stagger your seams to reduce the chances of moisture getting behind the siding.
I am surprised you had the seams in your siding line up the way you did. They should have been installed just like vinyl siding where you would never have the seams line up. You may have a water issue at a later point because of that.
He covered it in the video and you can plainly see it at the end this particular siding has seam strips so you don’t have to stagger it
Do you ever watch any building shows or do any research before starting a project? It might save you headaches down the road with so much of this house fails.
Why aren't the seams in the siding staggered?
Next time, cut the roll of house wrap on a chop saw at the height you need. Save the off-cut for window and door wrap.
I missed why you aren’t staggering the siding.
This particular siding has seam strips so it does not have to be staggered
That Ryobi Nail gun has been putting in some work!
Trim with 45° cuts in the corners would look much nicer
you still do corners first on LP smart side... enjoy blowing through 400 tubes of silicon filling all those gaps left cause you put corners and trim on after.
Can you do a time breakdown as well in addition to just cost? It helps DIY'ers determine whether to take something like this on.
Yes-this! Time is money and paying someone else to get it done efficiently may be worth it if this took several days or even potentially weeks.
If you ever do siding again, I would highly recommend Gecko Gauges as it makes life so much easier.
I have 2 pallets of cardboard boxes l, just wondering if that would be enough to build a house over there in America 😄😄😄
I dont know if its possible indoors but that front door would look so cool as a double door.
Awesome job, only thing I'd do different was have a different color for the trim than the siding but that's my tastes
You should be an example and wear protection including sturdy workboots, I am sure there are compnies that want to sponsor you with some yellow branded boots to match your shirt
The plant watering system looks good , will make your yard easy to take care of!
It looks amazing. What a difference.
Roof looks great!
Looking great can’t wait to see it finished
It's looking sooooo good!!
I thought that flashing tape goes on the bottom sill before the window goes in. This way if water goes inside the window channels it can drip out through the holes at the bottom but not wet the wooden sill.
The tides are turning! Looking great. Cant wait for a long final video that shows everything once you guys get it fully done!
Just amazing what hard work and sweat can accomplish ! Way to go! Living the dream man
Nice work and problem management. Windows are the smart money for sure. While the siding is off you can use new construction windows which are cheaper. Find the money. I know its likely a done deal because videos are slow, but man I think you missed the boat on that on for sure. Buying a "flipped house" that is something I'd look for.
Agreed. Quick flipped houses are a huge problem. Show pride in your work. Not doing it right will give the next owners a nightmare as they slowly discover the little things the flipper brushed over. I believe a job done well will pay for itself. These little things make the house look really cheap and most people will notice this stuff.
I absolutely love the videos. Keep up the good work. it's nice seeing someone else with a house that's not been done properly my house has been renovated so bad that removing the electric cables made it safer
Looking good! I feel like the large-scale changes make it feel so much closer to being complete. Excited to see what color scheme you're going to go with.
Thanks for sharing
I love how everything is coming together but I’m surprise that you didn’t do the floor in the garage
I assume that he's fixing it up and will then move out again to sell. Explains why he did not go all the way to make it a nice workshop.
I am amazed at how far this project has gone! Huge inspiration, especially since you try to do most of the work yourself . Great work!
At 25:08 you let your inner Bob does sports come out 😂😂
Gotta say that the grid on the front door gable looks slick.
Let's help get new windows!!! Smash that like button for him!!
I have that type of siding but never thought to search if they sell it for facia trim as well. Thank you for giving me that great recommendation. I want to save on repainting my home and I am more confident now on how to do this. Now I need a good friend to help me with this, or, you are more than welcome to help me and make it a video on your channel😉 Wishful thinking, right?😂
I wonder why you are keeping the windows? I would think you would want to change them out based on their age. Also, I don't know if you have control over this but, I was unable to use closed captioning on this episode. I like watching you work and problem solve as you go. Always appreciate your work ethic.
He said in the video that they don't have the money to replace them right now.
But they have money to redo all the siding lol@@Maximusrex4575
I was waiting for you too make a video cause I really like the series much love bro ❤
My 1960 house had those windows where a pane of glass was "stopped in" with wood trim. You can upgrade to an IGU (insulated glass unit) made to fit if you don't have the budget for the larger window in a frame. It can be a reasonable choice for very large (non-operable) picture windows.
Going to be doing a big house project in de near future. Thanks for the videos!!
Where's de? Is that Delaware?
Ah, autocorrect. Meant the, de is dutch
Tiffany and Co blue - your wife taught you well 😆 loving these videos/series
Hola! 🖐WOW ! Lots of harsh comments below about the seams. I'll ask the question this way, does the manufacturer have that info in the "destructions" document that you have in your hands at the beginning of the installation? If so then I guess you are good to go. IF NOT, what did your research show about lining up the seams that way? I like to ask questions and am always ready to learn something new rather than just fire off a critical comment. Looking forward to seeing this after the painting portion of this project. Take care and have a good one, Adios! 👊
happy you chose to keep the bathroom window we had one facing the street to and put a stick on blurry tint like substance to keep it from being able to see inside but still allowed plenty of natrual light inside especily sense my grandma loved to grow plants in the bathroom window trhat were senstaive to higher humidity wich is normal in a bathroom anyway
It looks so much better! Wow, you've put a lot of work into this house!
Looks great. Just wondering if you will be adding guttering/spouting for water running off the roof? Pretty sure thats meant to go behind the drip edge.
Enjoying watching the process from NZ bro
@9:20 he sounded like the home Reno diy guy with the blue shirt😂😂
Have you thought about getting a copy of the original floor plans from the city?
Hey I just thought of something you might can Zillow the address and get the floor plan for free lol
This videos is a great example of how not to replace siding. So many mistakes were made on this job. And the fact that you didn't replace the windows loses curb appeal.
Love the vid's man keep it up💪
What about the gap between fascia board and drip edge for gutters?
I love this channel and love watching you work on this house but i gotta tell you, those windows gotta go
Looks great!
Cant you just caulk inbetween the seems ?
Can you show us the soffit installation, I need help doing mine at home lol
Am i missing a video. In the beginninng you showed last video was garage reveal im showing last video was roof complete. Love your videos wanna watch em all
“Keyboard warriors” 😂
You can get a prescription for cold sores. You take it before it come out. You never have to suffer with cold sores again
My god guys take a Skil saw and cut the housewrap at the length you need. It will be so much easier. Sometimes this channel kills me being In This industry u def see the difference….mr fix it type and the professionals. I still like the Chan tho but u have so much to learn.😊
I know it’s not my money and I’m not doing the work. But that front door needs to go. Just curious why you guys didn’t replace it?
Question about your video sponsor bc I actually am interested in buying this - Orbit and RainBird have basic 2 zone DIY sprinker system kits that come with the piping, heads, and everything. Is this sprinkler system timer like a smart variation of those DIY kits?
The corner by the brick chimney - this is very not good because the roof flashing appears to be funneling water *behind* the house wrap.
@3:55 such a nice roof
I predict a future video where you do the windows! lol good Job!
Yes👍
If you can, build out that front porch area and gain more interior space for your entryway and bathroom.
WOW!!!! What a difference. Great job.
It’s looking like a new house. Great work.❤
I really hope the original owner's kids or grandkids find this series and get interviewed to learn about this house
What Ryobi nailer where you using in the video and what size of nails?
Mr. Infomercial.
Dude when is this next video of you painting it coming out!?!?
Literally cannot believe those windows and doors were left. Its garbage. Even cheap off the shelf windows and doors at HD would have been light years better.
Not sure how long metal levels are long, but you could get a plumb bob.
Am I the only one that doesn’t think this is a dream shop, it’s a garage just like you had before!!!!
Yeah, honestly, the garage isn’t as impressive as I was expecting. Unfinished floors plus textured walls was just a poor choice IMO
The round sign on the front door looks like a bathroom sign, even like a toilet shape, if it's in your mind already 😂. Can't wait to see it go.
Hey, love your channel. Hey, I was wondering if you are concerned about leaving ALL your tools in that house. I imagine you don't live there. I HOPE you have a great alarm system. Can't wait to see what you do next!!
my thoughts exactly
Nobody is stealing Ryobi tools.
Gapage? Lol! Siding looks great!
25:15 Subaru Impreza in back?
Looks awesome
I think lime washing the chimneys would give it an extra pop with that nice new siding.
Looks great!
Flashing tape over the bottom flange of the window.....bold move. We'll see how that works out for him....
The bottom shouldn’t have tape ?
No the tape should go first before installing the window. bottom of the window should have a flashing that goes Under the window and Over the house wrap.
On the RUclips channel " Perkins builder bros " something like that... they go over this in extreme detail in every house they build. Jamie is a master at flashing!!
@@Keeps- correct. The window sill pan is the drainage plane. Right now if water gets behind the flashing it will sit with no way to escape leading to rot. Leaving the bottom open allows for that drainage to happen.
Dang, 1"x10" x8' cedar planks are around $75 bucks a pop...
Just sayin' 😏
Guess it's my hoardin' tendencies showing lol.
Can't help myself, I would've put them in a pile to run thru a planer/jointer if & when
What happened to covering that weird bathroom window in front? I guess lack of time, materials or budget constraints?
Great job!!!
Why did you not stagger the scene on the back side of the house?
This particular siding offers a seam strip so you can opt not to stagger seams if you want
That looks great
Why didn't you stagger your seams on your siding? Now the seams stand out. And after you put the vertical strips on the seams is unsightly.
What is that bag hanging on the corner of the roof?
