    2 days & I really like the results from the samples by my doc. Any issues with eyes via clinical trials with 5-10 years+ long term use? How long were the trials? Who funded? How many were in the study? Seems too good to be true. Eyes are precious.

    • @EyeSchoolwithDrD
      @EyeSchoolwithDrD  3 года назад +3

      Great questions! Here is a JAMA Ophthalmology article about the studies! (Even though my video aired after the publish date, I did not have access to this at the time of filming since I film far in advance of the release dates of my vids) jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaophthalmology/article-abstract/2771169
      The studies ran for 6 weeks. 304 patients were included in a randomized, double masked, placebo controlled study/ It appears to be funded by the pharmaceutical company RVL to present to the FDA for approval.
      Here's an excerpt from the above JAMA Ophthalmology article that I think is important:
      "The safety findings over 6 weeks of oxymetazoline, 0.1%, use are encouraging; however, longer-term safety evaluation is necessary. Chronic ophthalmic use of tetrahydrozoline (an α-adrenergic agonist) can result in rebound vasodilation and chronic red eyes.35,36 Similarly, chronic use of oxymetazoline nasal spray can cause tachyphylaxis and rebound congestion.37,38 Neither tachyphylaxis nor rebound hyperemia was observed over 42 days of oxymetazoline, 0.1%, use in these studies. Conjunctival hyperemia was uncommon and occurred during, rather than following, treatment. Still, understanding the longer-term safety profile of oxymetazoline, 0.1%, is essential for future clinical studies. Therefore, the results of a 12-week randomized safety study enrolling 234 participants (NCT03536949) will be essential in helping to further evaluate the safety of once-daily oxymetazoline, 0.1%, use. Further, an assessment of outcomes with oxymetazoline, 0.1%, treatment vs surgical intervention might be achieved via comparative study."
      So, there is an additional 12 week study with 234 participants which we will await.
      My biggest concern long term would be rebound redness as stated above. Do we know 5-10 years out? Nope, sure don't! I don't think anyone can definitively assure you there will be zero side effects.
      Hope that helps! I am using it in patients with mild ptosis because it does work, the risk profile is low in my estimation with the data we currently have, and if the alternative is surgery for ptosis it is less invasive than lid surgery for those small amounts of ptosis!

      @@EyeSchoolwithDrD Thanks for giving me an expert's candid observation. Seems that USA population over 45 have a substantial DES increase & other eye issues than even 30 years ago. Is this true or were patients never diagnosed? Looks like eye surgeon & ocular plastic surgeon combo treatment would be a perfect match. Too bad Medicare doesn't kick in until 65 for cataract & eye lift combo surgery. That would be on many a wish list for ladies.

I mean 5000% increase by these companies GOUGING AMERICANS is just not acceptable anymore. Its one thing to go into biz of course for profit, but another to take advantage gouging everyone. Many just tried of this. At what point does a company change a small issue or just be completive in marketing theirs and its ok to take advantage GROWING everyone. its just wrong once the price becomes past a certain point.

      Hi! I've got some before and afters side by side of my team, not the marketing images from Upneeq so that you can see it on a few different people. I will post them in the community tab on youtube so you can see. They're also over on my instagram instagram.com/eyethinkican. I didn't quite figure out how to show it on a video. :) In my office we give a sample in the exam room with a before and after photo. Then, we're giving 10 days worth for the patient to try at home. I don't write an Rx unless the patient wants it after they've had a chance to use at home. Hope that helps. I'll post the photos in the community tab now!

      @Nora L I got the 3 month supply for $225. I was stupid. My eye Dr gave me a sample and maybe I had myself convinced that it helped. The fact is that it is not really helping and I just flushed $225. I'm going to look into blepharoplasty. My plastic surgeon does it in his office without anesthesia. But I can't get it done now because I don't have the funds.

    Hearing an OD struggling to pronounce “levator palpebrae” doesn’t instill much confidence in you audience. Next time try to speak without a que cards and practice. Just an advise.
