They are slowly being retired, but some are expected to stick around until the next order of LRV cars arrive. Edmonton has opted to keep theirs operational and actually bought some retired Calgary units for spare parts.
@@Welwyn22 that's weird it's a rare occurrence to see the old U2 trains on all day runs because they're so old I actually don't know why they put them on all-day runs every once in awhile my guess is probably they don't have newer quipment ready for the all day run on a rare occasion
A tunnel isn't ideal as Calgary's Downtown is on a floodplain. An above-ground system like SkyTrain would work better, but would need more space and would be just as expensive as a tunnel.
16:48 man I miss riding that when it was in service
Nice mix of old and new LRVs. I rode one of the U2 vehicles back in 1992 and am pleasantly surprised to see some of them still running in 2019.

Oh hey you caught the refurbed SD 160s!
I actually recorded a ride on refurbished 2212, with 2204, 2207 and 2219 a couple of weeks ago.
The old trains are still running on the red line i have not seen any on blue line
On August 31st there was a set on an all-day run on the blue line, I rode it to Shaganappi Point. Then another set came out on the blue line too.
@@Welwyn22 oh okk i rode the red line that day and i only saw old ones at somerset bridlewood and shawnessy but i did not see any downtown

I rode a old train recently
I enjoy watching the C train..how about next time Lions Park Sunny Side Bridgeland Memorial Zoo Max Bell..with the 🏔 in view?
The stupidest thing that they ever did was to put the LRT line above ground through the downtown.
