Absolutely beautiful sharing adventure and gorgeous settings presentation camera work and as always appreciated your efforts and hard work for sharing such an amazing job .. thanks again Ken ..
Nice video! I like maximizing space by more standing on the train. Lots of seating allows for fewer riders overall I would think. It's all individual preference. Thanks Ken! Cheers!
The reasoning for the standing layout in the new Siemens S200 trains is so they can fit more people, as the system is among the busiest in North America by ridership. Probably the worst part about the layout in the new trains is that they have no posts in the centre of the halls, so you have nothing to hold onto except the person next to you if your standing in the middle when the train is packed.
Much of the scenery reminds me of either the defunct Scarborough LRT line, or what you see along the GO Lakeshore East line coming from Oshawa into Union Station to visit T.O.🙂
Hi, the lineup was for Comic Expo, not for "the Casino." The reason seating is like that is to accommodate more passengers. And yes the view is awful between Stampede and Chinook stations, all along industrial areas.
If you're interested in light rail transit systems perhaps check out the one in nearby Buffalo, United States. It's quite an unusual system in that a large portion of it is underground like a subway and the train cars are non-articulated.
The stations downtown used to have large flower gardens and large bright illuminated signs, making it beyond obvious what station you were at. Nenshi came in and made the stations all cement with small unlit signs. (Southland station still has some of the old illuminated signs).
@@TheKenContinuum He's either misremembering, or purposefully trying to blame stuff on Nenshi. The downtown station refurbishment was planned out in 2007, with most of the work happening between 2008 and 2010 under mayor Dave Bronconnier. Nenshi, after becoming mayor in October 2010 was only around for the new City Hall Station opening in Sept 2011, and the opening of the new 4th Street SW station in January 2011.
Hi Ken, awesome live LRT video ride. I enjoyed it. How is your weekend going? My weekend is going well just enjoying the warm weather. Have a good night see you next video ❤😊
Ken, From watching your videos Edmonton's LRT is a much more pleasant experience to Calgary's LRT. Calgary may have to handle a larger number of daily commuters, but to stand during your journey while constantly listening to those annoying warnings beeps would drive me insane...📢🤪
Too bad the Calgary Public Transit is that you can't tap using your chip bank card like Toronto. The old way. Paper ticket fare. the smart phone is nice or the transit card. Small percentage of the public in Calgary might mot have the smartphone to download the app to pay for the transit fare.
I live in Calgary, have all my life, but I've not gone out anywhere since 2017 (and only cos of a change of residence, prior to that I had not gone out anywhere since 2010 or 2011), and it's safe to say I barely recognize anything out there. I used to be a near-permanent fixture on the public transit back in the late-80s/early-90s (back when Anderson was the end of the line at the south end), so I used to know the LRT scenery pretty well, and especially the downtown core. Now I don't even recognize the trains let alone the city. I have to say I do like the sliding doors on the train - the old folding "accordion" doors were awful. I am both surprised and not surprised they cleared out so many of the fwd/bkwd-facing seats toward the middle of the cars ; makes sense they'd make room for the rush hour crowds and all those damn cyclists, lol. I imagine it's a blessing for people in wheelchairs - more room to navigate. I really did enjoy this video. I only wish you had scoped out both sides of the car to catch the passing scenery. But it was still an interesting little virtual ride. I am going to see if by any chance you may have done a similar video for the train route going into the NW and/or NE (the latter branch was my regular region of residence and travel), but I probably shouldn't get my hopes up, eh? Haha. Again, I appreciate the video - it's probably the closest I'm gonna get to ever riding the train again and seeing my own city (and all the changes).
I was born in Calgary and I left it when I was 12 in 1977. My parents divorced, and the last thing i remember was going to the Stampede in June or July of 1977. The first thing I remember was going through the front gates and wished all the tepees burned and set on fire. TY, I'll just leave it like that.
ROFL... did you have an axe (or a tomahawk) to grind with the Native aspects of the Stampede, or were you just a weird/angry kid? Haha.. burn the teepees... send`um smoke signals, eh?
11:51-The section reminds me of the Scarborough RT here in Toronto.
Absolutely beautiful sharing adventure and gorgeous settings presentation camera work and as always appreciated your efforts and hard work for sharing such an amazing job .. thanks again Ken ..
My pleasure!
Thanks Ken. Seems like a very efficient transit system. Happy May 24 Long Weekend to you and look forward to you....continuing...😊
Same to you, Brent, & thanks again for the super support!
Fun fact city hall/bow valley college station used to just be city hall station last year
I hope you enjoyed your visit to Calgary earlier this month Ken, yet another great video and looking forward to seeing your next adventure. 😊
Thanks, I enjoyed my visit there! I still have one more Calgary video coming up.

Thanks, Christine. Cheers!

0:43-A free fare zone, just like in Buffalo, New York-excellent.

Ken seems like a nice way to get around. Thank you stay safe. 😊💙
You bet, Colleen!
A lot has changed since I drove the C-Train, I left in 2008 and drove the train for 22 of my 27 years with CT
Wow, no doubt!
I'm from Calgary and the sections that you see no seats that is for people in wheelchairs.
It will fit a wheelchair. That's what it's for
Super interesting! Really nice to experience this with you. Thanks!

Ah, I didn't know about the Comic Expo, just saw a big line-up going into what appeared to be a casino. haha
You're Awesome! ♥
Ahh, shucks... hehe
If only Toronto had been able to build its light rail system as it was supposed to have been built...
If you're interested in light rail transit systems perhaps check out the one in nearby Buffalo, United States. It's quite an unusual system in that a large portion of it is underground like a subway and the train cars are non-articulated.
If i ever get my passport renewed, I'm there!
I wonder if you would like the older cars more. The C-Train has about 4 different models of cars running, and the two older cars have lots of seating.
Yeah, could be!
Hey Ken you where in Calgary unbelievable right in my city
Welcome buddy
Thanks, I enjoyed my visit!

That beeping was a bit much...

you can tap your bank card , or credit card on the lrt line in Calgary
the right side has a much better view southbound :(
Darn it!
7:11 not a casino. That is a convention center.
Thanks!

This was the only C-Train video I had time for during my visit. Thanks for watching !
The stupidest thing that Calgary ever did was to put their LRT above ground through the downtown core. Bad call by the city planners.
Buffalo, NY LRT goes above ground as well.
It allowed us to expand quickly and cheaply. That's why we have more than triple Edmonton's ridership.
It was far too expensive to tunnel downtown.
