Appreciate you making this video. If my dealer ends up delivering my ZL1 I’ll be following your advice for sure. Dang! Just saw the part where you split your nail…again. 😧
@@Hot-1LE I have been watching you for over 2 years. I changed my 2ss oil at 750. The oil was clean but when I cut open the filter a good amount of sparkles were on the dirty side. Glad I changed it, engine sounded better too. In a recent video I think it was on SavageGeese a GM engineer said the silicone sealers can cause foaming in the oil, so that's a reason for an early change. Did the differential at 1500 and it looked new with little material on the magnet.
Good to hear! Funny enough i just saw that savage geese video last night lol and yes your correct about the sealers. From a GM mechanic I know he said diffs can have a lot of contaminants and some dont. Just kinda depends. This one did have a fair amount but nothing out of the ordinary. Glad tour taking care of your ride nice and early. Enjoy it!
Good info. I'm at 150 miles on my SS 1LE.. Can't wait to start doing maintenance on it! Looks like everything is pretty easy to get to whoch is nice for a change.
Its so new!! Haha. Yeah this car is sooo easy to work on. Its why I love these Camaros. Most cars make me deal eith some under tray removal BS just for oil but GM knew we wanted to work on this ourselves. You'll enjoy the maintenance.
Duuuude. I don’t comment much on RUclips videos but we have shared a few comments back and forth over the years. Been watching your videos from the start. I currently have a SS 1LE and the same day I see you now have a ZL1, my dealer calls me and says my ZL1 is built and on its way. Twinning!
Man that’s a pretty ZL1!!! I like this content, good info all around. Unfortunately for me, I rarely buy new. I just have to hope the previous owner is someone like you who follows the proper break in.
@@Hot-1LE Let me ask you this fella, are people still able to order a new ZL1? I have been checking the used market and folks want 68-72k for a car that has 10k miles on it. Thats awesome man! Congrats! During the first 500 miles try to vary your speed and not go over 80. So i cruised around 60 then 70 then 75 and would drop it back down here and there. Let the clutch break in so no hard high rpm shifts if you can control that lol. When you get it do light braking no hard stops. Drive it for a few miles light braking and then go get something to eat so the rotors can cool down so you get proper bedding of the brakes. Aside from that you should be fine man! Great video! Curious though where did you see differential at 500 miles. I had 1500 marked for that and the track prep doesnt even mention it. I was just told 1500 by a gm tech. So far I'm at 900 miles and have done 2 oil changes already one at 250 and one at 800 because they were 6 months apart. I've done it by the book as you described on my 2ss 1le though. Other then the 80 mph rule. On Phoenix highways your getting passed only doing 80 so I've hit 90's without even noticing just keeping flow in the left lane. That was never going to happen lol
Good job bro! Actually your right, the manuals say first at 1500 miles, then after your first track day! ok I'm being a little over the top with it at 600 miles, but itll get another at 1500 and then be done for a bit or depending on my track use. Damn thats a hard to find one. Congrats! On the manual trans every handful of track days. It stays pretty clean and holds up well. Up to you but i dont change it on break in like i do the other fluids

Awesome car man! Yeah its basically impossible to not do a little pull here and there lol. It'll be fine im confident of it. These cars are so over built. This whole break in process got the green flag from a GM mechanic as well I been following for some time. He says early oil and diff is one of the best things you can do. Glad to see your loving your Z.
Hey man, I’m a brand new Camaro 2ss owner and had a couple of questions: 1) I’ve noticed when daily driving I can hear rocks kicking up under the car more than my previous vehicles. Is this normal? 2) Did you get PPF for your Camaro? I can’t decide for mine, it’s so expensive… Thanks!
Hey bro. 1. Yup its in part with the stickier tiers/wider tiress and just the design of the car body. Get some rock guards. I suggest acs composite but they are kinda pricey and there is other brands. 2. Ppf getting installed on this car next week. Yes i suggest it. The paint on these cars gets pretty beat up.
@@Hot-1LE Awesome, thanks! I also had another question. I know we aren’t supposed to go above 4k rpm during break in (manual says for 1,500 miles), and yesterday when I was driving (I’m at 700 miles now) I had my arm resting right behind the shifter and accidentally click the mode changer button while driving. It went from tour to sport to track all while I was slowing down and RPM’s hit 4.5k for about 10 seconds, do you think I should be concerned?
Congrats on the car! You dont have to. If you want to keep it long term id do the first one at 1500 or 3k miles. But its up to you entirely your not going to blow the diff out by not doing it that soon.
Nope certainly isn't. Ive done it many times. I remember some gen4 windows would break when lifted if they werent down haha. Maybe its an older car thing
That’s a beautiful car! Did you have any hesitation buying the ZL1 with the M6 since you had some issues with your last 2 M6 1LE? And the oil drain plug is 18 foot pounds if you want to use a torque wrench or post it on your next video. 👍🏻
Thanks for the info! With that low lbs i just do hand snug. I made sure the clutch felt right before buying it. But otherwise my trade off was a mustang or a older corvette. But the stang id need to get new seats eventually. So its like cost of a clutch or seats lol. Id rather just do the clutch if it comes to it. But was happy with what i got.
Break it in hard, don’t drag it out, if there’s a weak link go ahead and break it get it out of the way while it has warranty, I was a heavy equipment tech for CAT we’d put in a brand new engine in dump truck or whatever and take it out and run the piss out of it
Hello, thanks for insightful video If you do maintenance yourself does the car stay under warranty? I ve been told before (other car brands) if I want to keep the warranty I need to do all the maintenance through dealer, do you know anything about it? Thanks
I'm waiting for my second 2SS 1LE, I usually trade it in every 2 years, this is the last one lol, I have never done the break in, only the oil change, I never had an issue with the car but then again I only keep it for about 2 or 3 years
For me personally i didint really like it. Whenever i used it the sun got in my eyes. Im taller too so with a helmet on I would still fit but I had to sit in a very specific position to not rub the roof with the helmet. Ultimately i found myself rarely using it. I did enjoy it open on early morning canyon runs. And some late night cruises. But overall i usually had it closed. I did like the look of it cracked open though.
Does your ZL1 have a belly pan that must be removed first? My 23 ZL1 is in transit now. My 2015 ZL1 has a belly pan that must be removed to perform an oil and filter change. It would be great If I didn't have to remove a belly pan. Let me know...Thanks!
Nope it doesn't! Neither did my ss 1les. Its really easily accessible and a pleasure to work on. The brakes are a pleasure as well. Easiest car I've ever worked on.
Pinch welds. If you look under the car behind the front tire there is two rectangular cut outs of the body trim (or side skirt if you have that) one is for a jack. One is for a stand. Then theres the pinch weld right there
Im just following the high performance supplement that came with the car. Do what you will with your vehicle. My first free oil change on my 1ss1le the dealer put in 15w50. I had to go home and dump it. Since then its worth the cost for me to know its done right. If you got a good dealer then im jealous haha! Enjoy your ride man
I think they are not using the right oil. It needs to be rated dexos R and previously it was dexos 2. 0w-40. Mobile 1 super car (previously esp) was the correct oil.
There are a plethora of videos and articles stating why you should not be “easy” on an engine during break it. It’s your car and thus your decision of course but using synthetic oil and keeping the load down whether up or downshifting is not proper break in. The rings need to seal properly and that’s all there is to it. Just because a manufacturer states a procedure does not mean they have your best interest(s) in mind for you, the consumer.
Yes lots of videos and articles from people that dont engineer the engines themselves. After doing this over 20 years ive seen a lot of engine rebuilds and blown engines with this approach. If thats what you want to believe then more power to ya its your purchase. The ring sealing theory is very old skool
@@Hot-1LE Nothing old school about ring sealing. You can dyno an engine right after a build and watch the power number go up after a few runs and the burning oil go down as the rings seal. These arnt smucks off the street saying this stuff either if that’s the impression. Regardless, I am not trying to convince you, I felt it was beneficial information for others but everyone is free to do what they feel is best.
@nicholaswarner1143 i feel ya man. Different with engine build vs factory. Theres even videos of them revving to redline on new engines at the factory for the initial set in. Theres also tons of videos of people explaining why you follow break in haha. Savagegeese made a great one on it
I just did my 1500 mile oil change and rear diffuser fluid change the other week. Can finally open her up now. One thing, I never had any rubber gasket on the oil drain plug, even at my 500 mile oil change. I had checked on the forums before doing my first oil change to see if I needed a crush washer, and I was told there wasn't any sort of washer or gasket.
Good job man! What year is your car? I had told a friend they dont have one either. But im quite sure it was built into the drain plug. This one had it right there. Totally didint think there was previously either!
@@Hot-1LE Mine is a 2022 2SS 1LE. Picked it up on July 25th of last year, so yeah, I don't put many miles on it during the year. But it is just a fun, weekend car, and gets put away for 4 months over the winter. But I'm leaving on a driving vacation with it on Monday to Utah, and wanted to be sure she was fully broken in before I left.
Awesome congrats! You can double check the high performance manual supplement. But yes oil 500 and 1500. Diff is cheap and easy to do so might as well do it at both as well. Or diff at 1500 and after first track day
I dont run one myself. You gotta lift the s/c to install it and GM could blame that for warranty engine repairs so I dont. In some more miles when i tune I probably will.
Followed break in, didnt abuse my 2SS, one day, merged into the high way, got up to 65mph and my engine just blew... i was unlucky, got my car about 3 weeks ago, new engine, doing it aaaalll over again, sucks, had my car at 8778 miles when it happened too, so faulty engine?
I could. I dont trust the dealers to touch the car. In my 1ss 1le the dealer put 15w50 oil in it. It takes 0w40. Drove it home and dumped the oil and did it myself. At this point its easy reassurance for me to just pay myself.
For my break in for my 21’ LT1 I drive it under 4K rpm’s until 1k miles I couldn’t hold off any longer and I floored it afterwards haha. I did change the oil aswell at 500 miles as recommended so I feel I did the break in somewhat correctly 😂
Ya the rear end having metal glitter is normal thats why they do the magnetic plugs. But def good to change it early and on a maintenance basis depending how you drive the car
Update: i am struggling to find the super car oil in stores 😭 and ive been told that the 2024 2ss can take some other oils. Now im a lil confused as to what I should do
Anybody here think it's a very stupid idea to stop production of the Camaro in January 2024. When there's not going to be any challengers And chargers made that year and the Dark horse is going to be marked up big time And twenty twenty four will be back to m s r p price range cause mark UPS are already disappearing and will be gone completely by twenty twenty four Except for the dark horse are any others limited production
I really hope you had Jack stands under the car when you work , and don't just trust a jack. I know a former mechanic who did, and he's no longer with us when his jack failed and crushed him.

Nope certainly isn't. Ive done it many times. I remember some gen4 windows would break when lifted if they werent down haha. Maybe its an older car thing
Yea you're probably right about the older car thing. Thank you for getting back to me. I appreciate it and your wisdom.
@@Hot-1LE well good luck and enjoy the extra 200 Hp and torque. 👍🏻
just got a new 2023 3lt v6 does it need a break in period? im about 500 miles currently
They all do. But its really the first 500 miles that matter the most so your pretty much free now haha
Break it in hard, don’t drag it out, if there’s a weak link go ahead and break it get it out of the way while it has warranty, I was a heavy equipment tech for CAT we’d put in a brand new engine in dump truck or whatever and take it out and run the piss out of it
Watch savage geeses video on engine break in. Might change your mind
Hello, thanks for insightful video
If you do maintenance yourself does the car stay under warranty? I ve been told before (other car brands) if I want to keep the warranty I need to do all the maintenance through dealer, do you know anything about it?
Thanks
You def dont need to do maintenance through dealer with any brand to maintain warranty. Just keep track of your receipts and mileage it was done.
So is the approach here to do oil and differential fluid at 500 and 1500 miles, then a more regular routine after?
Yessir
How's your ZL1 doing with the easy break in?
I'm purchasing one in a few days and want to do the easy break-in with a few light pulls occasionally.
Its been doing great. Couple of canyon runs and a few track days already its at around 3600 miles and running strong.
I kept it under 4k and varied the rpms for the first 1500 miles, changed the oil at 1500
Good work!
I'm waiting for my second 2SS 1LE, I usually trade it in every 2 years, this is the last one lol, I have never done the break in, only the oil change, I never had an issue with the car but then again I only keep it for about 2 or 3 years
Would u reccomend the sunroof option or no?
I saw your 2ss 1le had one but not the ZL1.
@@Hot-1LE Excellent!! Thank You!!
Hey quick question: Where do you hold the car up with jack stands? I
Pinch welds. If you look under the car behind the front tire there is two rectangular cut outs of the body trim (or side skirt if you have that) one is for a jack. One is for a stand. Then theres the pinch weld right there
@@Hot-1LE Thanks! Changing my diff fluid soon and this will be the first time lifting my camaro.
That knuckle buster 😂 did that too many times. 👍
:D I bet you felt that haha. Once the endorphins hit though its all smiles lol!
First oil change was free from GM with my ‘22. I certainly didn’t do it at 500 miles but to each their own.
Im just following the high performance supplement that came with the car. Do what you will with your vehicle. My first free oil change on my 1ss1le the dealer put in 15w50. I had to go home and dump it. Since then its worth the cost for me to know its done right. If you got a good dealer then im jealous haha! Enjoy your ride man
And you should be added oil in the filter before you screw it back into place. Just my opinion.nice car.
Yup very true! I actually did do that here but good to reaffirm!
Bro my dealership only uses Valvoline oil whenever I do my oil change for my 22 2SS 1LE is that good? Or should I buy Mobil oil?
I think they are not using the right oil. It needs to be rated dexos R and previously it was dexos 2. 0w-40. Mobile 1 super car (previously esp) was the correct oil.
@@Hot-1LE smh I knew it! never taking it there again haha
Where can you buy the rubber bushing at? Have a link?
I found ac delco ones on amazon but they are like $4 each when you can buy the entire bolt for 6 lol. Ill have to search for better pricing.
Road trip with the camaro. So much fun! They do so well your going to love it! Get a pull or two in your in the free now haha. Have a safe trip bro
got one recently! going to do my oil change and diff fluid change around 500-520 miles :) do i do this again at 1500? just clarifying lol, ty!
Awesome congrats! You can double check the high performance manual supplement. But yes oil 500 and 1500. Diff is cheap and easy to do so might as well do it at both as well. Or diff at 1500 and after first track day
@@Hot-1LE sounds good :) appreciate you my guy
@@Hot-1LE do you also recommend an oil catch can?
I dont run one myself. You gotta lift the s/c to install it and GM could blame that for warranty engine repairs so I dont. In some more miles when i tune I probably will.
Followed break in, didnt abuse my 2SS, one day, merged into the high way, got up to 65mph and my engine just blew... i was unlucky, got my car about 3 weeks ago, new engine, doing it aaaalll over again, sucks, had my car at 8778 miles when it happened too, so faulty engine?
Sorry to hear that man. Yeah bad parts gunna fail nothing proper break in can prevent
Great intro 🎉
Thank you man!!
So only do this if your tracking your car?
I would be doing this even if i didint track it. But its up to you. Def do it if tracking (per gm)
Can you not take it back to the dealer for this oil change under the first year free oil change service with a new purchase?
I could. I dont trust the dealers to touch the car. In my 1ss 1le the dealer put 15w50 oil in it. It takes 0w40. Drove it home and dumped the oil and did it myself. At this point its easy reassurance for me to just pay myself.
@@Hot-1LE understood
They make ez drain plugs for doing oil changes, no mess and super convenient!
Ive eyeballed those a few times. Not sure how much i trust it lol
@@Hot-1LE I have a 23’ SS and it’s been a game changer for me. It has a little safety clip to make sure it doesn’t come loose
Whats the brand your using bro? Ill check it out.
Bro i just got a 24 LT1 and the dealership looked crazy when i tried to get my 500 mile oil change
Yeah they tend to do that. They did that to me to and i said "its in your high performance manual". They dont even know their own stuff haha
I wanna see this car at the track or something. Get some content popping.
Break in first sir. But yes track and canyons are being planned
For my break in for my 21’ LT1 I drive it under 4K rpm’s until 1k miles I couldn’t hold off any longer and I floored it afterwards haha. I did change the oil aswell at 500 miles as recommended so I feel I did the break in somewhat correctly 😂
😂 its ok man im not saying i havent floored it 😅 good on you for the early oil change and self restraint haha
@@Hot-1LE yeah it was torture for the first 1k miles couldn’t wait for 500 more 🤣
🤣🤣 i feeel that comment lol
Man watching you change the diff fluid with the car “raised” on some thin pieces of wood gives me claustrophobia 🤣
😂 ya its tight down there but i feel less anxiety cause its not on a jack. Im also pretty damn lazy so I go the easier route lol!
I did the oil at 500 .. and then at 1500 and the Differential two
Perfect! Good job man
got 306 miles on my 2023 zl1 in 7 weeks 80 miles driving back from dealer but mine is the other red color
Red tintcoat is awesome!! I did 500 miles on the way home 😅. Congrats on your beast
Is there a torque on the fill and drain rear diff
24ft lb torque. I dont usually measure that myself Just go hand snug. But cant hurt.
I accidentally went to like 4500 rpms earlier for a split second at 450 miles and now I’m nervous up late watching break in videos 😢
Haha your car is perfectly fine i wouldn't worry at all
Ok 500miles oil change 1500 2oil change how look at the rear-end at 2000 metal fileing for sure
Ya the rear end having metal glitter is normal thats why they do the magnetic plugs. But def good to change it early and on a maintenance basis depending how you drive the car
Update: i am struggling to find the super car oil in stores 😭 and ive been told that the 2024 2ss can take some other oils. Now im a lil confused as to what I should do
You wont find it in stores. You can buy it on amazon for a good price. Or speedway motors.
Best thing you could have done was swap out to amsoil from Mobil 1.
I have one its 1500miles
I really hope you had Jack stands under the car when you work , and don't just trust a jack. I know a former mechanic who did, and he's no longer with us when his jack failed and crushed him.
There was a jack stand right next to the lift. I use both incase the stand gives out. Thank you for looking out for me!
You know, I regret not getting a camaro 😂
😂 theres always time. Well not really. But theres like 7 months lol
Totally agree to disagree.
Fair enough its your investment choose whats best for your needs.

My hommie! I grand you three wishes.
@@Hot-1LE Bet 1st wish is for you to trade me your ZL1 for our Mazda CX5 😆
I dont make a good genie. Can we barter? 😅😅
@@Hot-1LE 😆😆😆
What kind of oil ?
Mobile 1 "supercar". 0w40 Dexos R. Thats what GM recommends now.
