This is much more musically rich and imaginative than other attempts at fusing metal with classical, which are often technical masturbation and not much more. Actually a pleasure to listen to, and I can't really say that about much neoclassical metal. I especially loved the David Gilmour-esque outro
Completely agreed. Most neo-classical "musicians" just wanna flex, and butcher the original piece as much as possible. This guy not only kept it faithful, but got creative with it (acoustic, slide, "jazzy" portions) where most others just have a nasty distortion, drums and (maybe) a bass which is barely audible. He also didn't change the tempo, where most others make it much faster (sometimes not the full piece since it gets too fast) just to show off. Props to him, he's already one of my choices for the best guitarrist on RUclips.
4:11 is the moment everything changes. That contrast is a brilliant callback to the classical. That sort of complex thinking in regards to thematic layering elevates the work considerably. More please.
hold up. stop, turn, explain and then anticipate, adapt and overcome. basically six things, and 2pairs of three. pick up and start again. dont stop. musicians are notoriously black galled.
I wish I could Favorite this more than once. Danse Macabre is my favorite* orchestra piece, and I love metal, so this is just about the best thing I've ever heard right now!
Dude, you won't believe me if I say that an indie game developer made a shooter game based on the divine comedy, and one of its banger themes is Danse Macabre, but breakcore
Spent like two days just looking for a proper metal cover of La Danse Macabre, which I need for... reasons. It was rather hard to find, a surprising amount of metal musicians decided to name their songs the same thing. So thanks for this!!
I was listening to the original, and I hoped so sincerely for a proper metal rendition of it. I am so relieved to have found this. Cheers, mate. Thanks for this. Gonna listen to the shit out of it.
As an avid fan of both classical music and metal, I give you my thanks. I'd love to hear you do covers of baroque songs; something like J.S. Bach would be great!
After several requests the sheet music for this arrangement is now available from my bandcamp page. By following this link - joeparrish.bandcamp.com/album/capriol-suite-warlock-meets-metal - and purchasing the album/EP for £2.50 (tax included), the pdf for the Danse Macabre sheet music is included as an add-on. This pricing was more for the sheet music, but it has to be attached to an album in order to be sold through bandcamp, so it is more the sheet music for Danse Macabre with my arrangement of the 6 short movements of Warlock's "Capriol Suite" included for the price of a disappointing sandwich. The sheet music includes both tab and standard notation for all the main lines and parts that you see and hear me play in this video. I took great care in ensuring the articulation, phrasing and positions used are consistent with the video and recording, and that both the tab and notation are presented as logically and clearly as possible. There is also an introduction by myself detailing important points about learning the arrangement, as well as a guide to getting the most from the sheet music.
Look at those quick notes at 3:34 dudes! Im not a musician, more like an enthusiastic, but i can see clearly, when i hear these kind of things in classical musics, that metal it's obviously similar in many ways, not just the virtuosity thing, but all the work to make a song that will impact the audience... to wonder, to feel. Anyway, this is pure gold my friend! Thank you for sharing with us such a nice work.
Mars, Bald Mountain and this piece are extremely well executed. Very nice arrangements. The sound production is pretty good too. Your choices of different guitar sounds and textures are very colourful, yet faithful to the original. There's also a nice crunchy edge at parts that make these pieces kick ass real hard.
Wow. That is one of the bits of music that sparked my interest in music when I was a kid. This version is stunning. Metallica meets Queen meets Pink Floyd, almost. Insane. I'm giving this another spin right now.
That was -phenomenal-! Such a difficult piece, I think. You not only performed it with skill, but also with -soul-. I really appreciate that. It’s one of my all time favorite classical pieces and you blew me away, sir! 🖤🖤🖤
Congratulations, dude. Truly a miracle worker, you have successfully made a Saint-Saëns track possible to dance along to. I just recently discovered your works, and I venerate them. Also, Mars is my personal favorite.
Your videos deserve more views. I tried to do this edit on a music program for an MMORPG; you can play music and make your own scores in that game. Transcribing it for other instruments is more fun, than actually playing the game sometimes.
Oh my! I spent some time to find a decent guitar performance of this thing. But there was only piano and cello. And now RUclips recommendations show me your video. I love it so much! It’s not only decent but unbelievably wonderful! Great work!
This is just gorgeous! I wasn't expecting the slide, but it makes so much sense. One of my favorite classical pieces, and it sounds perfect metaled up!
Amazing!! I never heard classic&metal melting into one like this! You're awesome! RESPECT!! Wish you the best for the future&make more masterpieces like this!
WOW!!! Wowee WOW WOW!!! This is by far one of the more impressive electric guitar renditions of this piece yet, Joe. Evil, yet elegant. Well plotted out, without being too overindulgent. I'm sooo sick of listening lifeless RUclips "virtuoso" Yngwie Wannabes with nothing to say. This is a breath of fresh air. You're a credit to RUclips. keep up the good work!
Thank you, I'm really glad you enjoyed it and I agree, most people associate the marriage of metal and classical with shreddy Yngwie type stuff, but there is so much more to explore

Awesome cover! Can u also put the score here
I really like that you stay true to the original score, not just playing the first few bars and shredding over it. Your covers are killer.
I agree with Sam Vimes!
This is much more musically rich and imaginative than other attempts at fusing metal with classical, which are often technical masturbation and not much more. Actually a pleasure to listen to, and I can't really say that about much neoclassical metal. I especially loved the David Gilmour-esque outro
*cough* Yngwie

I heard the Gilmour too. Nice catch.
I had high hopes. Did not disappoint! Love the cover
An ASMR channel here. That's a rare sight.
LauraLemurex ASMR I didn’t know what to expect but this rocks!!!!
Classical music is just metal without electricity.
Ehh…no
Only symphonic metal and progressive metal is.
Metal has his roots in hardrock, psychedelic rock and Blues.
4:11 is the moment everything changes. That contrast is a brilliant callback to the classical. That sort of complex thinking in regards to thematic layering elevates the work considerably. More please.
"There's just no way that we can win, that was a master piece"
"He rocks too hard, because he's not a mortal man"

@Sarah O. "deactivated lazers with my dick"
Finally! Dynamics, nuance, instrumental colors. A modern interpretation with classical sensitivities.
I wish I could Favorite this more than once. Danse Macabre is my favorite* orchestra piece, and I love metal, so this is just about the best thing I've ever heard right now!
agreed-
Dude, you won't believe me if I say that an indie game developer made a shooter game based on the divine comedy, and one of its banger themes is Danse Macabre, but breakcore
This is really phenomenal, man. I love the textures with the acoustic and slide guitar.
Spent like two days just looking for a proper metal cover of La Danse Macabre, which I need for... reasons. It was rather hard to find, a surprising amount of metal musicians decided to name their songs the same thing.
So thanks for this!!
Connor McAllister not really surprising. If I made metal music I'd call it the dance of death too.
nice one. albeit 6y. still coolest.
I dont know how people are so calm in these comments this is the *BEST thing ive ever heard in my entire life* thank you
Absolutely, hands down the best cover of this classical piece. I usually listen to the original but my gawd this is amazing! Fuck it's so good!
+IrradiatedMushroom Haha, thanks man!
I am re-aggravated weekly that your metal versions aren't on Spotify. Joe you must get on Spotify!
He is on Bandcamp which works just as well.
I second this!
+Manfred Holt Thank you, I've got a lot in mind, but yes some earlier stuff would be great
@@JoeParrish And well... In it. (I'm retarded lol)

love Danse Macabre on guitar
This is better than how I imagined , and my imagination skills are pretty good

Never thought of using a slide like that, creepy and perfect. Thank you
Just launch for curiosity after listening the symphonic orchestra version... But you hold me until the end!
Spirits are here...
Good and great job.
This is the best ever rock version of Saint Saens I have ever heard. Simply brilliant Thank you for such an awesome work.
That was -phenomenal-! Such a difficult piece, I think. You not only performed it with skill, but also with -soul-. I really appreciate that. It’s one of my all time favorite classical pieces and you blew me away, sir! 🖤🖤🖤
