@@JoeParrish Ok, so it took some time, and this was the best I could manage with my skills, but I've completed the video and credited you. ruclips.net/video/YjhdCFrDf68/видео.html&lc=UgxOh3p3OYm8S4cJFSV4AaABAg Thank you so much for allowing me the use of your cover, it's an amazing song and really compliments Holst's original, even surpassing it at times. Keep up your great work covering these classic songs!
I'll be honest. I've been a classical musician and a metalhead for most of my life. I came in here kind of ready to be super judgmental in defense of Holst and metal renditions. No defense needed. Especially after hearing the ballad-style interpretation of my favorite movement. Stay metal! \m/
I have always loved Holst's Planets Suite, and I am amazed at your rendition - done with such obvious love and respect for the original/normal treatment. The balance of the various tracks was perfect - bloody well done. Dick Preston
Also, what I really love about your arrangements is that you never water down. Every note I hear in the original, you just perfectly recreate in your versions. The thing is I've watched so many covers of classical music so far that I always expect some missing notes, wrong harmonies etc... but not yours. You never disappoint, because I can see that you actually took (a hell of) time to study the score... Respect.
Thank you, that is always my aim when doing these arrangements and I do immerse myself in the details of the score, so I'm pleased it doesn't go unnoticed
I immediately realized this as well! I do some arrangements myself (though I don't publish them) and I also always try to pick up the original harmonies, catch all the (important) notes etc. which often is really difficult. So I do have a lot of respect for you to manage this in such a way!
Very, very good indeed. Your attention to detail is very impressive. Whilst others are suggesting different compositions, I would love to hear a continuation of the Planets Suite. Not only do you play them extraordinarily well (speaking as a guitarist of many years and quite envious!), but it would make an awesome album. However, appreciate that it would take a lot of time and effort. Congrats on one of the best 'projects' on RUclips - and I have seen a huge quantity of them. Excellent job!
Most progressive rock is influenced by Jupiter: and Yes used part of it in The Prophet (on Time And A Word). One of the best short classical pieces ever.
As requested by several of you, here is another one of the Planets. All of my classical tracks can now be purchased on bandcamp following the links in the description. The cool bastard in the sunglasses is my good friend Mike, who is himself a stellar drummer. You can visit his channel here - ruclips.net/user/Mikeycianciorocks Thank you, and enjoy!
Finally, you are back. Not going to write a huge comment, as I would just like to thank you for your music, I started because of Metallica and continued because of you.
Incredible cover - this shows such a deep understanding and respect for the source material. I've often though of Mars as an early example of proto-metal in classical music, but you've demonstrated that even the lighter and happier movements from 'Planets' are also displaying musical choices which have later been adopted by more extreme genres. Again, I fucking love this cover, well done dude
Jupiter us a melody that means too much for me for many reasons, one of them because it was the melody I listened to when I witnessed a total ecipse which was one of the most amazing moments in my life... and this metal cover really ROCKS!!!!!!!!! WELL DONE!!!!
Dude you should finish covering the planets! which might be odd to do for Neptune and Saturn, but that's just my suggestion cause then you'd have the full suite! I've really been liking the stuff of yours I've been listening to as well, very cool.
Holy mother of God. This may be one of the best things I have ever heard. Jupiter has always been my favourite piece of music, but the precision, epicness, and grandiosity you have captured in this, and the work that has gone into making every second perfect, is beyond words. So much love, bro.
This arrangement is fantastic. The number of genres you jump through is just perfect. Keeps it varied and serves the original composition so well. Nice work!
I just want to chime in that this absolutely KILLS. I was listening to Isao Tomita's "Planets," got to Jupiter and immediately came back here. Phenomenal work.
You are unbelievably talented! Your Mars rendition is exactly what I was hoping to find when I searched for a metal cover of the piece, and Jupiter gave me chills from the first note
Omfg... Literally just made my night..... You are so talented.... And you know people don't appreciate classical.... But omfg biting my lip.... Fucking amazing!!
Having listened to Isao Tomita’s rendition of Jupiter for many many years, I would say you have given this just as much compassion and effort as he did. Well done!
Just perfect! couldn't say any more word! This piece of classical music is one of my most favorite, but never heard it with guitar. God bless you, Joe. You're a phenomenon.
Amazing, amazing, amazing. I didn't know the ballad part was from this music, but, i don't know how, i already listened to it. What a GREAT surprise, fantastic!
I got so many goosebumps, especially at 3:00. I'm imagining a peaceful setting of a sunset in the deserts of Arizona or something, and I'm loving it sooo much
Thanks for making an arrangement that’s so true to the original! I think a lot of people would just play the slow part in the middle cause it’s cool but you really did the whole song justice!
I fell in love with the planets and I also love metal. This is an amazing recreation of the movement from the suite and I’ve finally found it after searching for at least a year. Amazing job man.
Awesome arrangement of a beautiful piece of music! I played this in an orchestra last year, it's cool listening to your arrangement and remembering how fun it was to play! Now to listen to your mars chart!
I'm really really impressed. So amazing... Your play told me that you do not just play the melody or notes, but you studied this music deeply and know the thing which Gustav Holst wanted to express.
This actually gave me chills. I absolutely adore the energy change in the slower section, covers which are metal for the sake of being metal often ruin classical pieces but you have done an outstanding job here.
Thank you for this. It's rare that i feel like i can experience a piece of music that I'm so familiar with for the first time again. You did this for me.
Been thinking for YEARS how amazing a rock / metal version of this incredible song would be. (discovered I needed to add "electric guitar" to the search). Thanks for bringing it to electric life! Bravo JP!!
this is so well done!!!! I've heard SO many versions (classical) of this song and you mirrored my favorite one, by the Chicago Philharmonic, which is just so neat. I love this.
Brilliant - surprisingly effective, and shows this great orchestration inventiveness in a completely fresh light that really works. The only thing that would make me happier is a live drummer rather than samples.
Loving listening to this through nice headphones, great recording and mixing job, reminds me of " ... and justice for all" mixed with Kansas guitar sound.
What a lovingly and expertly made rendition. The ACME of musical skill. I mean for the love of God, you even beautifully translate every mood from its original orchestral into a totally appropriate guitar style, with special attention paid to matching the sound quality of all the different parts and instruments. Endlessly relistenable.
Huh, I just decided to review "Bringer of War" and here' this new piece waiting for me from just a couple of days ago! Nice! EDIT: Phew, both hands get a real workout for this one, yes?
I love the drum work and how well it works with the music especially since it's a rendition of classical, it manages to capture that feel while still keeping it faithful to the original, I'm not even a drummer, tho i do play percussion but yeah, great job on figuring out the drums on these pieces!

Metal with a rock ballad in the middle. This is so cool.
So basically Master of Puppets
Or Yes.
Nothing short of heroic. I want this played at my funeral.
You and me both, hot damn.
I was just thinking the same thing
9 downvoters who know no jollity, even when it's brought to them.
😂
I see what you did there....😂
Hell yeah boy do your thang bitch 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮

Thank you very much Dick, I'm glad it came across that way
I've never really liked Heavy metal covers of things much less of classical music. I heard your Mars and Jupiter back to back. I'm happy this exists.
Heavy Metal comes from classical music. I always direct people to Vivaldi the four seasons (winter in particular). It's a good example.
When the melody takes off at 4:20, man it literally generates LIFT. Again dude, way to make it absolutely soar.
Gustav Holst was a genius. 70 years ahead of his time. Masterpiece.
Also, what I really love about your arrangements is that you never water down. Every note I hear in the original, you just perfectly recreate in your versions. Thing is I don't think Venus or Neptune would work anywhere near as well in the metal genre
but saturn would!

Amazing. Sounds like a mixture of Queen and Yes.
I was really thinking Yes. I also hear some Dream Theater.
With touches of King Crimson here and there...
And Gustav holst

I LOVE the changes in guitar to adjust the tone as the song goes along. Phenomenal cover 🔥🔥

WOW! Holst, himself, would be banging his head to this amazing rendition. Superb mastery.
The best thing on RUclips! Genius. Love it. I wish Holst himself could hear it. He would love it too.

Excellent! nice work, Joe. And a great way to inspire young musicians who are not familiar with this great piece to discover it

Very nice, I didn't know that it could be played without the traditional instruments.
Hey, could you try Piano Sonata no. 7 III. Precipitato by Prokofiev? I'd love to see you do it!
Wow! I performed this piece back in 1986. Brings back memories. Incredible.
