The interesting story behind this MV is that Thrill was the B side to their first single Love Passion Matador ( a pop funk song along the lines of Average White Band) but the band chose this song for the MV as it was a better reflection of what they wanted to be. It was also potentially their one and only MV and the end of them as a band as their management regarded this as their last chance at 'making it' , fortuntely it blew up on facebook and the rest is history as they say.

It only takes one, and it was the right one this song rules. I'm glad they got a chance to keep going because I've bounced around songs for reactions and they are all good but some were amazing. Can't wait to hear more.

This video "Thrill" was make it or break it time. their management spent the last of their budget on this video and if it failed they would be released from contracts. it started slow, but then a Facebook page in France posted this video and it went viral with 2 million views in a week or two. Band-Maid themselves didn't believe it was real and thought they had been hacked or something lol The Maids didn't know at the time it was now or never for the video they learned of that a long time later after they were well established. New album coming end of summer including collabs with international acts. they recently released a mid tempo number co-written with Mike Einziger(founder and guitarist of Incubus) whom they recently opened for in Tokyo and Mike joined them on stage to perform the world live premiere of the song "Bestie". June 12 The Warning(3 sisters from Mexico) will do a joint concert with Band-Maid. they are in Japan now so i'm expecting an awesome collab. if you don't know the Warning I highly recommend them.

This track is off the 2nd studio album *New Beginnings* which is one of my favorite albums other songs off this album are *REAL EXISTENCE* and *Don’t let me down* which has a motorhead vibe.
In the beginning there was a small pigeon 🐦 who met a guitarist 🎸 who played with a drummer 🥁 who went to school with the bassist 🎸 and then tricked the singer 🎤 to join the band then the small pigeon 🐦 asks the guitarist 🎸 please teach me how to play the guitar 🎸. The Story Continues.

Welcome Masters and Princesses to the best rock band on the planet. These beautiful ladies are in their early 30s now and have been rocking for 10 years with plenty of Solo work from Misa (bass) and Kanami (lead). Drum fills and solos from Akane are killer. The great thing is they always look so happy with great interactions with their fans.
Thrill the track that blew them up on the world stage, after a slow start it suddenly went viral outside of Japan after being shown on Facebook (the label was about drop them when this happened in 2015), Play, Domination, Dice, Freedom, Onset, From now on, Without Holding Back and Hate? Are all great tracks and they have an extensive back catalogue (130+ tracks).
    The 5 Band-Maid members:
SAIKI Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. The youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions.
MIKU Kobato (Me-Ku), "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals and lyricist. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR Spokes Pigeon. She was originally going to sing vocals but stepped back for Saiki and learnt guitar instead, she couldn’t play when she formed the band and was initially tutored by Kanami. Miku's new signature Zemaitis guitar has pigeons on the fret board. The A24MF-FP “Flappy Pigeon” is a beautiful model.
KANAMI Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want is more! Kanami plays a PRS; the birds on the fret board are a tribute to Paul Reed Smith's mum who was an avid birdwatcher.
AKANE Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during a performance!) rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa), "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA! Misa usually plays a Black Cloud 5 string bass aka “Black Smoker”.
Their Battle Gear as they call it with slight variations are standard French maid outfits for Akane, Miku and Kanami, MISA ditched the French maid outfit early on and started to wear a Chinese inspired maid outfit - in black of course. It's partly how MISA got her nickname 'The Barefoot Assassin'. Well, she always plays barefoot, and Miku joked her outfit was an “assassin maid”. Saiki's outfit is more Spanish inspired.
Any Maids track always ROCKS as they come for your soul and every track is so different.

And a thing about the maid outfits, Storm: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids.
Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Band-Maid is considered by many of their fans and Maidiacs to be the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all!

If you liked this song, I recommend Alone.
Thrill and Alone are two historically important songs for BAND-MAID.
IMO, It has a pop-punk feel, but is a bit heavy and very technically performed.
And the guitar solo is amazing.
Based on your reaction, I think you'll like Blooming, RINNE, DICE, Choose Me, No God, etc.
BAND-MAID creates many unique works that mix multiple genres.

Yes, they have done Anime Theme Songs, among them 'Glory' for Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS, and the season two closer for the Netflix anime, Kengan Ashura, 'Shambles'. They also appear in anime form in 'Unleash'.

Welcome, Storm. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 200 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:

BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom.
Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular!
Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ruclips.net/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/видео.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Hate?, Shambles, Influencer, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on.
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, Bestie, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Sense, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): ruclips.net/video/7LB_EPS48HE/видео.html)
And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. ruclips.net/user/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYUJI concerts:
 2023 Yokohama 10th Year Anniversary Concert “Endless Story” ruclips.net/video/Za1y-RRVd70/видео.html

 Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and other full concerts are on bandmaidprime.tokyo, bili, and official Band-Maid’s DVD/BD/CD.

If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, live streams, CD, DVD/BD & merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

Roger likes this song A lot more than I do. While it is a great song there's so many more that I think you'd like better. Thrill was really just a starting point. This along with the first three albums were written by others. On the third album was the first song they were allowed to write by themselves. I think you should definitely listen to that one titled Alone.

good recovery from Hate? one thing about Band-Maid is to expect the unexpected, they don't play inside any boxes, full freedom to play what they want but generally with a hard rock core but they have lots of surprises for you. check out Shambles, Choose Me and Don't let me down(all english lyrics) and check out everything Roger Chance suggests lol I didn't sub to hate? but I did sub today. cheers

I have listened to hate several times now on a music app and the sounds quality is better and it's definitely impressive. These women are very good and what they do, and I have recorded a few reactions and I understand what you mean about the difference in range as far as style, but I've definitely enjoyed all of them. And I plan to do all their music, it will take a while but I'm interested in hearing them evolve over the years.

I suggest these BM songs: Dice, Manners, Bubble, Blooming, No God (live) & Puzzle (live)
I'd also suggest The Warning - another all female rock band from Mexico
I suggest these TW songs: Money, Sick, Automatic Sun, Enter Sandman (official video with Alessia Cara), Evolve (live VMAs) & Dust To Dust (live Teatro)

Band Maid is insanely diverse in their sound . Once you get used to that you may find yourself enjoying something that never fit that sonic wheel house .
Have seen the ladies a couple of times live for live will always be it for me . This is a live band at it's core .
Thrill is good , but very basic for them .
    Good job

You are on the right path, po❤🎉 From this point on they developed their songs and they have alot songs like this one, but much more interesting because of Kanamis intelligent composing since their song "Alone".
If you want to stay with their earlier stuff I recommend "Real Existence" LIVE. Or you may do a side by side comparison of its MV (their 2nd MV after thrill) and the Live performance.
Don't underestimate their LIVE performances! They are mostly superior to the MVs (watch Freedom, Moratorium, Play, Corallium, Endless story, Manners/Blackhole (...) to prove that 😂 and there is at least one song that does exist only live at RUclips: Onset!
"Hate?" is IMHO not a perfect Band Maid song, for many reasons. But they have at most only 10 songs that I won't recommend (especially for 'beginners') and 120+ songs that are great (not all with an MV of course)
So have fun on your journey.
And of you are interested into their history then watch the documentaries from Ohrenje. They are so great!!❤❤❤

I’m not a fan of talking over the music either. But sometimes to keep the music going, short an succinct notes on the parts being played to help point out what the musicians are doing to make the song stand out can be very helpful. The superb musicianship of Konami, lead guitar; MziSA, lead base, and Akane. drum often get slightly buried in tgr mix that only good headsets could pick them out. One of the pleasure of listening to BM is to discover what each one of them doing in the background as both Konami and MISA often solo on the side that drive the music along while Akane dropping fills. All over the songs. These are the kind of comments that help me learn and enjoy their music more.
Not sure if others have mentioned yet. If you really enjoy heavier metal music, there is.none better than Lovebites , a rue all metal girl band from Japan. They are the speedier sisters of Iron Maiden that many fans consider them already surpassed the. Original. For starters probably Holy War, Shadowmaker. Both live from Zeppelin. Once started, the LB fans will come out for more selections.

I have a left field suggestion. There is another song from the same album this is on that remains one of my favorite Band Maid songs today.
There is no video, the only live versions are fan cams and should be avoided. Just the album version is the way to go (or the fan cover is actually great)
The song is FREEZER, aside from being a kick ass rock song, it’s got some of the best use of dual vocalists in their catalog. Miku and Saiki bounce back and forth in that song and to me it sounds fantastic and I wish they would do it more.

Aloha Storm Reacts...I see that you are new to the reactionland of YT. And that you have very few artists on your channel. What I'd like to bring to your attention is the fact that Band Maid and The Warning will be performing in Japan together in 10 days. You are asking...who is The Warning? Another all female Rock band consisting of 3 sisters from Monterrey Mexico. They compose most of their songs in English, with only a few in Spanish. You might like to check these ladies out simultaneously with BM. And The Warning is no rabbit hole...they are a caldera of talent, because their artistry is as wide as it is deep! Currently, there is mad speculation as to whether BM and TW will collaborate on a new song, or perform a jam session or a cover...it probably doesn't matter because the audiences will undoubtedly have an incredible show! IMHO, check out their official video, Automatic Sun, it's their studio recording dubbed over live concert footage...reason being, there were lots of noisy CO2 and flame cannons continuously going off. After that any live performance of their recent releases of their upcoming album, Keep Me Fed...June 28th. Enjoy! #bandmaid #APDVillaReality

This was the song that saved the band in the truest sense of the word. This song was the breakthrough as a rock band because it brought the band to the attention of foreign listeners for the first time. This made their management more willing to support them. Otherwise they would have been disbanded. Coincidentally, you chose a very unusual song as your first song. 'Hate' is rather unusual for Band-Maid.
I HIGHLY recommend the songs 'Honey(ハニー)', 'Freezer' and 'Warning'.

I’m an old blues rock guy, the songs that hit me include “Thrill.” Be prepared for more surprises because the Maids record song after song that are worlds apart from each other all the time. They are fearless songwriters.

Maybe "Hate?" Is too complex for max ears 😅
But in my ears it's more a wall of sound, quite unstructured (besides the duel of Misa and Kanami). Maybe it's the mix but even Blackhole (which is great but chaotic) had much more structure and interesting musical parts in it.
Maybe I have to listen to "Hate?" from the album and see if it is more interesting...😅

I'm a bit confused by your commentary, how is this heavy but the "hate" song mellow ? "Hate?" was way heavier, faster and technical by every single metric possible, from guitar tone to bass to drums, even vocals and lyrics lol. Even in term of technical skill, I'm surprised you are impressed by this relatively simpler song and not the previous waaay more technicaly impressive and longer guitar and bass solos back in forth in the Hate? song live. I'm very puzzled lol
I understand you can like this better or you just vibe with it more but you reasoning for it doesn't make sense lol.
Also there is no such thing as sounding like "anime opening", anime music isn't a genre or musical style, just because a band does a fast paced rock song in Japanese with melodic choruses and a certain chord progression doesn't make it anime
