This is their first ever MV, that saved the band from getting disbanded by the management, which went viral world wide🕊️
This song “Thrill” was actually a B-side to their debut single “Love, Passion, Matador” which has some Spanish music taste and their red maid costumes have homage to Spanish flamenco style dress, that are visible in this MV.
It was the band member’s bold choice to create MV for their B-side song Thrill, rather than the A-side song, that saved themselves and finding/selecting their sound they wanted go on with.

We are Legion, for we are many.
Glad you’re back, and don’t worry, despite us being on the internet we tend to be more your age than younger. Band Maid has a super power that is to instantly ignite a level of nostalgia for our era of music more than anything in decades.
You’ve found their first music video and it’s a great song that saved the band. Unbeknownst to them at the time the label was planning on dropping them if this single didn’t go well. Instead it got picked up by a Facebook group that brings eastern music to the west and it went viral. Without this song we might have never heard of Band Maid and the world would be just a little darker.
There are some really fun facts about this, the biggest being that the Rhythm guitarist, Miku, could not play guitar when this was filmed and basically used it as a prop. Kanami (lead guitar) has since taught her over the years and she’s quite a capable player these days.

Band-Maid is a generational talent, maybe more than that. Unfortunately, they still don't have the universal recognition they deserve. Rock has been in the doldrums and Band-Maid is at the forefront of a renaissance. Their catalog is deep and their composition is consistently great, so plenty of rock treasure to run your hands through. Thrill was their breakout back in 2014, so just keep it going!

Miku (red rose) was the one who worked in a maid cafe after she was in a minor idol group with 2 other girls, they were called Lil Cumin. She was determined to start a band with the maid aesthetic while playing cool rock music. The band was originally meant to be a 4-piece, but after a couple of shows, Miku felt she didn't have the right voice for that kind of music. So, she stepped back and they brought in Saiki (blue rose). With this being their first MV, if you look closely, you'll realize that Miku is just using the guitar as a prop. She didn't start playing guitar till after the band was playing live shows. She was being taught how to play by Kanami, so after 10 years she has become a very good rhythm guitarist along with being the main lyricist. Kanami arranges the songs with input from the others. This group of ladies make up the perfect team with no egos and the will to constantly improve with the goal of world domination. 🤘

Everything they do is for the band, not themselves. When Miku founded BAND-MAID in 2013 she realized her voice didn’t have the power needed for their style of music. She found Saiki and stepped out of the lead vocal role. Miku didn’t know how to play guitar and they needed a rhythm guitar so Kanami could focus on lead. Kanami taught her how to play guitar. How many people would do that? Kanami’s solos always fit the song, not a crazy ‘watch me’ style. They are close to the goal of “World Domination” after 10 years of hard work and persistence while having fun on stage.

    How old is this video?
    Kanami isn't playing a PRS.
    Akane is wearing Tiny Hat-san.
    MISA is wearing shoes.
Saiki is wearing a regular maid outfit and can't figure out what to do with her hands.
Miku is wearing a few pounds of metal and wood around her neck and doesn't have a clue what to do with it.
    And they still slay.

(And no compression!! ;-) Just ask anyone who's experienced them live. In fact, we've been getting an earful of "wow's" and "that was incredible" from all the reactors and commenters from their successful 2022 & 2023 Band-Maid USA Tours. Rock on, Jack!

She's now an incredible guitarist...one can only imagine how awesome it'd be to have Kanami(lead guitar) personally teach you to play an instrument. Wind forward to the present, these ladies are arguably the best live rock band on the planet and certainly the most likeable. Cheers!

You're going to have so much fun journeying through their music. Will really make you smile! I recommend reacting to anything from their Studio Coast live from 2017; it's a great way to start loving this band. I'll esp recommend Puzzle and Moratorium from that performance. Their first 20+ songs were pop rock, pop punk styled. Thrill was straight up rock. Thank God the band insisted on doing Thrill as their first MV, over the managements's choice. The success of Thrill lead to more solid rock songs. I consider two that followed, Real Existence, and Non Fiction Days, as prototypes for the "BAND MAID" sound. All these were not written by the band. Compare them with the first band written songs, Alone and YOLO.

BAND-MAID take the best parts of the music you love, mix them up, and create something new that sounds fresh and satisfying. The way they switch up the feel makes each song seem like a mini concert.
Now you’ve seen their latest concert video of the last song off their last album, as well as their very first music video (of a song which was written outside of the band). Compare the two and observe how much has changed over the intervening seven years, including: the intensity and complexity of the music; SAIKI and KOBATO‘s voices; AKANE’s drumming, and especially how the maid outfits changed as they began able to make their sartorial choices.
DOMINATION, live from 2020 will show you what they were up to half-way from THRILL to now.

This is one of only a select few songs on which Misa plays her bass entirely by finger picking. She uses a pick for most songs and has a "magic trick" where she tucks her pick between her index finger and palm in order to play slap & pop style, then switch back to picking instantly. She was asked in an interview what happens if she drops the pick and she replied "I never drop it".

The best thing about Band-Maid is that they got better release after release. When they first formed their management provided them with songwriters and producers and refused to let them record their own music. The musicianship was there from day one and the drive to create their own sound was there too. Kentaro Akutsu who wrote "Thrill" collaborated with them and helped them. Eventually Kanami was able to record "Alone", her first Band-Maid song. Band-Maid now has near complete artistic control, and taking control is a recurring theme of Band-Maid songs. Between "Thrill" and "Hate?" there are over one hundred diverse and original songs.

This was their first music video before they started writing their own stuff; pretty simple by modern Maid standards but still a banger. I think it's very fair to say that Band-Maid is a bass-driven band but not a bass-focused band. So much of Band-Maid is carried by Misa and Akane on bass and drums that it allows Kanami and Miku to play more riffs and emphatic chords or let Kanami go off on an adventure in the background without losing the plot of the song. There's a level of depth to their self-written music that is simply lacking in most 5 piece bands.
I suggest checking out Domination LIVE (not the MV) next as it is another fun live video.

The post chorus. (I think it starts with a Bb power chord)
You’re the first reactor I’ve seen point out the small musical detail that instantly hooked me. It’s that change into the second half of the chorus that made me smile, “Now that’s a pro level song!”
At the time, I didn’t know the Maids didn’t write it, but it compelled me to check out more. The rest is history.
Band Maid are ridiculously versatile songwriters. Name a genre and there’s a song or two that includes that element.
For you? Why not check out the closest they’ve gotten to “hair metal?” “DICE,” official music video.
The Japanese rock and metal scene is on fire. Just overwhelmed by female rockers and other creative artists. Band Maid is unique and there is no other band that compares to their style and music. But here are some others from different musical lanes you might boost your subscribers with:
    Lovebites. Iron Maiden style metal
Wagakki Band: Traditional Japanese instruments/rock performers
Babymetal: Heavy metal studio band behind “kawaii” pop trio. Metal theater
    Hanabie: metalcore
Nemophila: heavy metal with the screamo stuff
Maximum the Hormone: legendary metal band. A style fusion of Red Hot Chili Peppers and System of a Down

    We love this band.
If you plan to continue into the pigeon hole, i can do no better than to quote Homer Simpson...
    "Prepare to be DAZZLED."
    Strap in.

A lot of Maidiacs are Boomers and Gen X. :D The younger ones are starting to trickle in though as they are realizing that rock n roll is amazing after all. And with the direction Metal is heading into lately it's attracting Gen Z 🙄 as well.

JACKMERI: You are now a MAIDIAC in training! 12 more reaction videos and we’ll show you the secret handshake!
You have to react to “from now on!” It’s an instrumental, so no lyrics to distract from the music. Fasten your seatbelt!
    More BAND-MAID please!

You may want to check out the band “The Warning” and their song Dust to Dust. Also “Kids rock for kids” and their cover of Hysteria by Muse.

Before any of us were born? You have no clue about the age structure of us Maidiacs 😂
A next song? I can recommend "Play" (live) which was meant to be an instrumental but Saiki liked it so much, so they added vocals to it 😊

Warrant, Cinderella, Slaughter, Britny Fox, White Lion... so many 80s hair metal bands would have sold their souls to sound half this good, agreed Jack! And I'd say that Band-Maid is even better than the best songs from the best bands of that genre. Round and Round by Ratt? Kickstart My Heart by Motley Crue? Burning Like a Flame by Dokken? Rock You Like a Hurricane by the Scorps? All great... but I like most Band-Maid songs more. Like 70 Band-Maid songs are better than most hair metal or classic rock.

Rule number one. Don’t enable captions on a first reaction. It doesn’t matter. It’s just distracting.

At this point I'm always a little uncomfortable if this video is someones first experience of BAND-MAID. The video and song have huge historical significance to the band and Maidiacs and is a pretty good little rock song well performed. But to me it always seems like it's BAND-MAID pretending to be BAND-MAID. Fortunately, for me at least, this was not your first BAND-MAID. Enjoy your next one.
