I was a commercial fisherman for 35 years, harvested shrimp and fish, high fuel prices and low dock prices and sport fisherman is what put me out of business!

With few exceptions, I don't eat fish from outside of North America. I only trust farm-raised shrimp if raised in America. Anything farm-raised in Asia? Forget it.

I wonder if this stupidity still goes on today. In the mid 80's I drove long haul. A trucker spoke of a load of fish in Portland OR. Destination Boston MA. Upon arrival in Boston, the load was inspected and reloaded onto the same truck. Destination Portland OR. Reason the government did not have a qualified inspector on the West Coast. I would bet the package was labeled as fresh-caught fish.

Same here, but I was reading up on many articles about seafood from other countries, and we can get seafood from Asia, India an others. It arrives in the US and a US distributor ships it to Stores and they can label it Produce of USA because it was packaged in the USA. Scary to me.

You are correct. If any then, ALL labels. But it is the responsibility congress members, like Kennedy, to pass legislation and provide the funds to hire and equip the people to do the work! I hear Kennedy (and others) bring up a lot of problems in these hearings but seldom suggest solutions much less provide funds to pay for the solutions. Enforcement cost money. Put up or shut up!

The fact of the matter is ? In Rhode Island and Massachusetts more than 50% of the fishery businesses have been put OUT of business because of the regulations that are imposed upon them ! You can see the results of this right in front of you when senator Kennedy showed the prices of the seafood . The U.S. Government has put more business out of business than there are in business today ! Yet the U.S Government is more than willing to have Chinese governments massively over fish the oceans then reward them when they sell their products in the U.S.
Finally someone will answer questions & respond respectfully like she actually cares about Kennedys concerns. Bravo!

Growing up on Long Island, New York I can remember a time that their was a seafood restaurant and fish store almost on every corner. Now its almost impossible to get fresh seafood or buy it. What's said its our own Government that has destroyed our fishing industry.

So, it really doesn't matter what the cost of living is in a particular state, it's dependent on how powerful the lobbyists are who are advocating/setting the prices.
