  • How to disassemble and clean throttle body in 136PS diesel engines Volvo 2.0D, Ford 2.0TDCi (136PS & 140PS), Peugeot & Citroen 2.0HDi from oil and carbon deposits. Inspect intake manifold, clean intake air temperature sensor (IAT) and manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP) and make your diesel engine more responsive to acceleration pedal.
    Oil and carbon deposits in throttle body may cause engine to loose power, rough acceleration, smoking while accelerating, problems with starting the engine and shaking when turning it off.

    Hi, just cleaned my complete air manifold. I took it of the engine because it smokes a lot and runs like a tractor in the morning for about 30 seconds to a minute. After that it's fine. Nevertheless I didn't clean the " throttle body" though and the problem is still there. Next I'm going to do is clean it like in your video. If it doesn't help it doesn't hurt anyway! Thanks for the video!

    But when I bought my car it was unplugged completely(there is also a screw in the hose to block it off). Any reason why it was unplugged ?

    I saw your issue in comments below. It might be EGR. PUt an aluminum or metal blanking EGR and you will be fine. It will reduce oil steam emission in engine and throttle body will be more cleaner later. Also Sometimes theory le body can leaking because The air has oil steam . I personally put Silicon And plastic glue all around this piece And no more leak , better performance

    • @mrfixpl
      @mrfixpl  7 лет назад +1

      Those flaps are controlled with vacuum.
      And since this is a diesel engine there is actually no throttle in the intake. Those flaps are just directing air one way or the other, or close the intake when you turn off the engine.

I have the v50 2.0 D SE 2005. on cold starts it's absolutely fine but when the engine gets up to temperature and I stop the car it will give me hell to start up again. I suspect my throttle body has some issues. My car sometimes lacks power under 2000rpm badly.. and it's smoky after 2000rpm on heavy accelerations. Yesterday i got off the car and i hurd some buzzing/humming sound from the engine area.After i stoped the car and ignition switched off. I pulled the vacum line from turbo vacum valve( brown one) and buzzing stoped. Started again and checked again , buzzing stoped when i pulled vacum line so i suspect a vacum leak somwhere. What's wierd for me is why is my intercooler COLD after a long drive? If i have a broken membrane in one of my vacum actuator valve witch controls the throttle body will it bypass the intercooler? Thx.

    • @mrfixpl
      @mrfixpl  7 лет назад

      If your car is bypassing intercooler then it will be cold and performence will be lower. This can be caused by fault or because your DPF is regenerating.
      Buzzing vacuum valve is not an indication of issues with vacuum - those valves are controlled with PWM signal and this is just how they work.
      Your VGT might be stuck or not moving in the correct range which would also cause performance issues.
      If you have a lot of smoke when accelerating, then you might have some boost leak.

    Hi mr fix, love your videos.
    I have a ford galaxy TDCi 2.0., I have a slight hesitation between 1500 and 2000 rpm, only when under very light throttle or when no throttle, have had a new fuel filter fitted and don’t have any DTCs,
    I was searching and then came across a post about how cruise controls slow cars down in a diesel car, reward that it’s buy closing of the air in the egr throttle body.... that’s when I came back to your site and watched the video....... reason, when I have cruise control on it all works fine but recently if I go down hill it does not slow down, so my thinking was that it could be the throttle sticking as if air is still getting past the flap it would not slow the car leaving me to think it could be the same reason why it’s giving hesitation at low revs...
    Sorry about the long post
    Many thanks
    Steve

    thanks for the video! I removed cleaned and then refitted my throttle body thanks to this video!
    Just a quick question: in my throttle body, one side was constantly springing back into open position (as you showed), but the other side would just open and close with no spring action - this is also the side that leaks a bit of oil - what could be the problem here?

    • @mrfixpl
      @mrfixpl  7 лет назад +1

      Both sides should spring back. One to open position, one to closed position.
      If there's free movement, then most likely plastic gears are damaged. You'll need to replace the throttle body, or just the faulty plastic mechanism.

    • @CloakedPerv
      @CloakedPerv 7 лет назад +2

      mr-fix that's a bother :/ it does make sense now that you mention it... so one side is for normal intake and the other side for turbo, correct?

    • @mrfixpl
      @mrfixpl  7 лет назад +3

      Both are connecting turbo to the engine. They just direct the air through or bypass the intercooler.
      And when you turn the engine off, both are closed to help smooth things out.

    Forgive me if this is a dumb question but why would a diesel need a throttle body? They draw a fixed volume of air don't they? The lack of a throttle body and butterfly valve prevents pumping losses. Why does this diesel have one?

    @yammydave7880 7 лет назад +1

    Having gone to all this trouble, why not remove and clean the manifold as well; it appears a straight forward job. Or is there something I haven't spotted that is likelt to cause major headaches?

    • @mrfixpl
      @mrfixpl  7 лет назад +1

      Taking the manifold out would most likely require a set of new seals to put it back together and not cause air leaks.

    • @yammydave7880
      @yammydave7880 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks, I was thinking that would not be a problem and was surprised by your answer.

    PS. does oil like your video in body tell anything about turbo condition ?

    • @mrfixpl
      @mrfixpl  8 лет назад

      Didn't clean the manifold yet.You can't diagnose turbo without actually looking inside the turbo. Oil inside manifold is most likely coming from the crankshaft breather and it's common in turbo diesel engines.

      Unfortunately there's a whole list of little things that might be wrong and will cause low boost. Some are directly related to the turbo (like the vacuum valve controlling VNT, sensor on the turbo, IAP sensor on the intake, boost leak) and some can cause the engine control unit to go to low-boost mode to prevent further damage (fuel rail pressure out of range, accelerator pedal potentiometer fault, timing belt out of sync).
      Would be helpful if you could run a quick scan of the car to see if there's some error code pointing to a fault.

      Those two butterfly valves have different normal states (one is normally open, one is normally closed) and work opposite of each other. If one of the valves is faulty (for example stuck closed), you don't wont the other one to also close, so you disconnect the vacuum control line.

    The version in the Mk4 Mondeo only has one air intake..

      Some engines have intercooler bypass. Flap regulates if the intake air should go though intercooler or bypass it.

    will this cause dpf soot messages

    • @mrfixpl
      @mrfixpl  5 лет назад

      Unlikely. This message shows when ECU estimates that the filter is full. That estimation is based on the readout from the differential pressure sensor (installed next to the battery, with two line going form it down to the filter). It reads pressure before and after the filter and if there's pressure build-up before the filter, it calculates how clogged it is.
      This has nothing to do with the intake manifold.
