  • We have moved home and this is our experience. Despite my best laid plans not happening through unforseen circumstances, we did it. This video I thnk is more about the progression and development of my son. Many parents who are new to autism are panicked and scared that the way their child may respond to the outside stimuli will always remain., Whether it be head banging, self harming, not sleeping, crying, screaming and unable to cope with many different changes - all of this can become less stressful for your child as they grow and become more experienced in their world.. This does take time, often a long time and I feel its worth it. Trust is the key and honouring their needs as much as possible. Not buying into what other parents do to discipline their children or indeed ignoring their need to stim or hide away. (for example) if we can allow and accept that some things are too much to cope with at certain ages or development stages it seems to me that eventually they get to a peaceful state where change can happen without the trauma any longer. Long term trauma can cause so many other conditions like PTSD and nervous conditions as well as health issues.. Its a widely studied and proven science that long term trauma can cause deeper more harmful experiences. It can take longer for an autistic child to process their world as their brain functioning is so complex. The very nature of the neurological pathways can affect how an experience drenches the senses. This means it will take longer to make a clear understanding of, say the whole experience. Bit by bit over and over each experience is repeated and another tiny piece of that puzzle slots in.. This can take years, months or days depending on what the experience is.

Thank you for this. So happy it worked out for you. Weve had to move a few times already and my son is only 3 and a half. There is an opportunity for him to go to an amazing forest school instead of a typical school next year but it would mean relocating yet again. Im wondering what would you suggest for a nearly 4 year old to help him try to deal with such a move again. He really regressed on our last move but it was quite an extreme change (moving from Spain to London).
