- Originally recorded in 2017 at a Ferrari event at Road America, this interview and the other footage in the video has not been publicly seen. Long story short, after sending the Phillips family the footage to review, we lost touch. Recently, I rediscovered the footage and decided to edit and finally make public this interview of Admiral Robert Phillips and his mission to restore the historic 1955 Ferrari 500 Mondial Series II. I hope the Phillips family gets to see it! Raw footage is up at my other channel at / @murphoto if you want to see and hear more of this classic car.
Thank you, very well presented.
@dennismurphy thanks for sharing this. A wonderful story of what vintage car ownership is about. No price, no flash. Just a raw internal feeling of love for his car. Till death do us part. Awesome.
What a nice and wise man, taking care of great motoring history. Makes me happy!
Great story and car. Thank you for your service and stewardship of the Ferrari. Salute to you sir ❗️🇺🇸
Best part is that he club raced it as a young man ( and never ŵadded it up), a GP winner. I don't who you are, that's just a great tale.
Fabulous Car, an Amazing Story, a Fantastic Gentleman !
I crossed paths with Admiral Phillips and his Mondial about ten years ago. Totally amazed, I listened to him with absolute awe. While I let a 250 Cabriolet get away from me fifty years ago, in truth, I most likely would not have owned for five decades. Thanks for sharing this interview!!!
Watch the Admiral in Jay Leno's Garage -- a Fantastic Video.
The recording is great, a dialogue takes place snd the real "Ferrari " os Indeed the Admiral.
Thank you for your intelligent Comment.
The Admiral was spot on ,the Ferrari Mystique was in deed built on the early history and race events .I knew a guy 50 plus years ago who had several old racing cars stored on his Farm, amongst them were a pair of Ferraris, one of which he had actually raced against Moss and Parnell in the 1950's(not to mention the GP alfa and Maserati etc etc ) gathering dust back them.
Thank you, Admiral.
Appreciate that, it was quite an unbelievable trip - all 58 years of it!
Thank you Dennis! The Admiral and his wife were very special! David
If you know any of the family, I would love for them to see this.
@@dennismurphy5329 I forwarded it to someone who I believe has their contact info. I have been informed the Admiral will be at the Annual Ferrari Club of America Meet in September. David
@@dennismurphy5329 Hi Dennis; Bryan Phillips here, Admiral Phillips' son. I was the one who actually hired you for that weekend all those years ago! A friend forwarded this video to my father today and he has enjoyed watching it as well as the other videos from that weekend on your other channel. Thank you so much for editing and posting this!!
@@bryanphillips485 My wish came true. I remember you well. Not quite sure how we lost touch, but am glad you all get to see it again with a little editing. And glad the public gets to enjoy his story that day. Give my best to your father and family. It was a fun weekend and an honor to meet the Admiral.
Never heard about the 4 cylinder until now
What a beautiful car ❤️🎯💯
That was my main purpose in taking the car to all the shows, so now I can add one more knowledgeable person to the list
wonderful interview. I have seen this car and it is fabulous.
Dennis, believe you filmed me at the 2013 FCA National Meet vice 2017 so eleven years ago - how time flies!
Yes. I went digging for the files but no luck yet. Indeed time flies!
@@dennismurphy5329 Dennis, tlbcar is "the little blue car", I am the Admiral and appreciate your good work!
Love the car, love the story.
Captivating video 🥹
Fabulous car , great colour and a wonderful gentleman , a true enthusiast. I can relate to time honored ownership , I have restored a VA MG that my father purchased in 1970. It always gives me a great feeling when i drive it , a feeling that my dad is always there with me .
This is flat out amazing Ferrari I have no interest in newer Ferrari to me this is what Ferrari is.
Well done Sir and I thank you for your service.
Yes, the new Ferrari transformers are a sad joke
"I finished my MBA at Harvard"...baller on and off the track!
Dennis - I had the opportunity to meet the Admiral and see this car on several occasions over the years - an amazing story. I also forwarded a link to the video to the car's current owner/caretaker who I know. He was not aware of its existence and thought it was fantastic. Thank you for sharing.
Excellent. Glad he got to see it!
@@dennismurphy5329 Dennis, I understand he is planing on bringing the car to the September Ferrari Club of America National Meet at Elkhart Lake, WI. It will be great seeing it again.
@@tlbcar3565 Very cool! I'll try to get into the event to see the car again and meet the current lucky caretaker.
@@dennismurphy5329 Dennis, much of the Meet is ticket holders only, however as you may recall, the downtown event is open to the public. You have some great shots of when I helped a youngster sit in the car some eleven years ago.
Lovely story, which would have been lost in time. Beautiful Ferrari Mondial.
Es gab keinen besseren Besitzer für diesen Ferrari. Mr. Philips hat ihn dann doch im Jahr 2018 für 5 Millionen Dollar verkauft. Die alte Modelle sind wirklich die schönsten Ferraris.
I agree on one should not alter a original design. On the other hand , when any race car is new, the factory teams have no problem hacking about on their tools when the goal is winning races.
The gentlemen was on petrolicious witch was on RUclips 👍
It’s only rival Fangio’s Maserati.
