I think of myself as a Sentimental Video Artist, something I've never heard of but that I feel best expresses my motivation and purpose behind my video creations. The goal is to contribute to the documentation of history in some small way, while evoking emotion, memories and nostalgia for fellow humans, well enough to make a living.
The videos on this channel are for art and entertainment purposes only, no warranty is either expressed or implied. The choice of an existential tour guide is an important decision and should not be made solely on the basis of videos on this channel.

From 1969 until 1975 I worked at the Boyd's Clothing store that sat at the southwest corner of 6th & Olive. In those days this area was the heart of the Retail Shopping district of Downtown St. Louis.
So that would have been in one of the terracotta-clad buildings like the Gill. I love this type of comment, an anecdote from someone who was there back in time. 😎I know you've offered a few odd contributions to comments on my videos and one of my longest-running subscribers, both of which I appreciate very much. 🙂
And now for your RUclips-generated AI comments, you deserve them, but they might be the last for a while as they seem to have quit offering me any! 😏
(Here are the AI responses from RUclips suggested to me in regards to your above comment meant to help me phone it in more efficiently but in actuality are creating more work for me because I'm on a kick of including them with my real responses. 🙄)
"Ah yes, the days of department store grandeur in the heart of St. Louis, thanks for the nostalgic memory, you're definitely a St. Louis history expert!"
and
"You must have seen a lot of changes over those years in a corner that's seen even more changes since then, thanks for the comment!"

Great audio on this one! Walking around a parking deck in a big city and there barely being any sounds and trash everywhere is good jump scare material for someone to pop out in one of the stairwells! 😮
Thank you, I try to put a nice effort into the audio, a critical but underacknowledged element subtext to the feel of a video, so that's a meaningful observation to me. 🙂 One does feel a bit like in a movie set in places like this, except it's not design production, it's real. Thanks for your continued viewership and support, you've been a positive influence. 🙂

"You'd be surprised how many times I've nearly tripped over a cardboard box or empty can in these places!"
and
"It's amazing how silent and empty these places can be. You really get a sense of the history and the decline of the area."
(Commentary on these AI comments: Improving eerily by the day)
My parent's eye doctor had an office downtown and parked in that garage a few times.
Damn… that one street with the sewer pipes and the inside of the deck look like the set for a Batman movie after they filmed a villain battle.

It's funny you're showing the empty parts of downtown - only because just a few nights ago Ch. 5 put out a news story about Chili Mac's Diner and how it's surviving the lack of crowds in downtown STL. I had no idea that garage was intended just for Famous Barr, because its been so long since St. Louis Centre closed. I don't know what it is but I always find those walkway bridges that connect buildings so fun to look at. Like you, I hope something can happen to the garage and the jewelry buildings, but I'm not getting my hopes up anytime soon. Thanks for the tour
Tower Tee, one never knows!
The Big City USED to be an aspirational destination, then it became a place to flee in fear. (Deep thought there)
Here's how to help downtown: Plenty of good cops. Improve infrastructure. Prioritize safe, clearly defined parking areas. Advertise advertise advertise. People don't want to go where gunshots, car thefts, break-ins and crashes are routine, or risk their car on wheel-bending streets or worse, or be paranoid about where you left it legally. Then consistently maintain and show everyone what we have to offer without making the FBI lists. They will come, because there will be a buck to be made, so shops will refill, the nearby residential demand will increase and more taxes will be collected and the schools will get more funding and reinvestment can be continued and so on. Square 1 is cops, many and of the highest professionalism, lured with salary and morale, everything else will follow. I know, salary and morale are a big can o worms. Sorry about the rant. Thanks for riling me up, 😛 glad you liked the video. I like the walkway bridges too. 🙂 Cheers

So the parking garage is clearly not structurally sound. You can’t really save them once they get too bad. So this is really a demo in the waiting.
Sadly you're probably right. This horrid old garage that at least showcases it's function with a characteristic design like this is one of kind left around here and has been part of the scene for so long, we shoulda taken better care of it, but we destroy far more precious around here. This was Futurama when it was built, now it is scorned as ugly, outdated and car-centric. Going down the corkscrew can be slightly dizzying though! TYFW 🙂
Oh I almost forgot!

(I think they might not be offering any lately for some reason, hope it's not my fault 😳)
