I have been a loyal advocate of Filmic for many years. When they went subscription, I took a blood oath to never use them again. I don't like to be negative but I simply can't say enough bad things about them. Tragic because the idiotic plan will likely destroy what was once a good company. I appreciate iPhoneographers who taught me Filmic and now BMD.
i'm on an iphone 13 pro. why does the blackmagic camera app does support 1080p 240fps like the native camera app does? or do i have to find a setting to do that?
They don’t support it on the 15 Pro either. Not sure why. Total guess maybe it dropped frames or potentially it got a lot of artifacts. The 120 doesn’t look very good. I would personally stick to 4K 60.
@@iphoneographers yeah I know the quality won’t be great. I just need an app to have a fixed lens, fixed iso and fixed shutter angle at high frame rates. I don’t really want to pay for filmic pro just for that hahaha
How are you playing back in the App in slow motion? I have no problem recording at higher frame rates but can’t figure out how to play them back as intended
@@iphoneographers yes shooting in off-speed mode is straightforward -- still haven't figured out how to PLAY BACK in slow mo, which this video shows but does not directly explain how to do
I normally use shutter angle, and so just leave it on 180 and you’re good no matter what frame rate. But if you were using shutter speed, just double it to get ideal motion blur, so 1/120.
Yeah the BRAW is very nice to work with, in particular it’s easy to change white balance, ISO, etc. But if you shoot Apple log in the app you do have quite a bit of control in post.
The high frame rate 60FPS gets conformed to 24FPS, thus creating slow motion. Basically you’re combing or condensing the extra higher frame rate into the slower frame rate.
Has anyone experienced the app crashing when trying to use OS 4k 60fps on 24fps Apple log recording internally on iPhone 15 pro? I was so excited for this feature but after testing it a few times, I could only get it to record for around 5 seconds before frames start dropping, and then it just started crashing every time I try recording in OS 60fps. Anyone else encountered the crashing issue or the frame drop issues? My workaround for the crash is to go with OS 60fps on 48fps which helps record a few seconds worth but frame drop issue still prevalent. Any insight much appreciated!
Everything in this video was shot 60/24 using Apple log and I had zero issues. When you updated the app, did you hard restart your phone? If not, try that. And/or delete the app and reinstall it. But if you do that, be sure to save or backup any videos first. Hope that gets it fixed.
@@iphoneographers Strange, are you using the 15 pro or pro max? I've just reinstalled the app and I was able to record (frame rate drop still persists) but once I created a preset with them, it crashed every time I try to record again, probably a bug. Hope they have an update soon!
Here's a slight downside (sort of). If I film in 60fps for 3 seconds the file size is about 8mb (h.265) then I can slow in post. If I use the new Off Speed function at 60/30 and film for 3 seconds (ending with 6 second clip) the file size ends up 16mb. This is different than my Sony camera in S&Q mode (which does essentially the same thing). With Sony S&Q the file sizes are reduced due to being at a lower framerate.
That’s interesting, I didn’t compare file sizes. It would seem like the conformed in camera would be the same size or smaller actually because it’s 24 versus 60.
My question is, do I buy the 15 pro today, or wait for the 16 pro? I’m curious about your thoughts on the 15 pro, if I were to buy it today ? Because if I were to purchase it now I can get the newer or small rig or beast grip cage and shoot today. The bonus is I can use my moment lens on 24mm of course, (18mm and anamorphic) I have 58mm and 60mm but I’m okay with the vignettes 😅 If I waited for the 16 pro, I’d have to wait a couple months more for the new cage right? Or maybe I can just get the universal beast grip cage 😅 I’m tired of getting a new cage every phone and it seems like 15 pro has been peak iPhone and most people say it’s great For context I had the iPhone SE 2020 then i upgraded to the 12 pro max after your recommendation 🎉 Definitely will still keep it for a b - cam but I wanna try log and see how the 15 improves But then again I can also wait 😂 What do I do! Also having a trip coming up going to Atlanta for a wedding so it would be cool to see how it performs or just stick it out 😮
If u don't mind my reply, i'd suggest you to wait but not for the 16 pro because the main camera sensor won't change than the current one in the 15 pro. If i were to upgrade i will go for the 16 pro max which is almost confirmed by major leakers to receive a new bigger main camera sensor ( imx 903 vs imx 803 in the 15 pro max )
@@Mohamedahmed-jz7xd that was very kind of you to reply thank you so much! So the 16PM sensor will be bigger than 16Pro and 15PM wow that’s something to consider !
I’d probably wait since it’s now June and new phones will probably ship in 4 or so months. But yes, cages always take a month or two sometimes even more like with Beastgrip. Of course not too long ago Apple wouldn’t change the body style of the phone very much and so cages would last two cycles or more sometimes. So that definitely stinks. But universal cage like the Beastgrip Pro is a great way to go too. Keep in mind though that every year a new upgrade will come out and it’s typically an incremental improvement. This last year the biggest thing was Apple log and USB-C. And that is huge. It’s a very good upgrade for video especially. But other than that the phone didn’t change that much. Although it is much lighter than the 14 Pro Max too, which is nice. So we’ll see what happens with the 16… But it’s hard to say how much “better“ it will be than the 15.
@@iphoneographers I do agree with the incremental improvement, and I get what you’re saying, because if I were to go with a caged iPhone with lenses I’d go 6ish more months of waiting, but maybe the iPhone would be better off with the naked iPhone with incremental improvement rather than just reliant on the 1x and 2x lens The 0.5 and tele on iPhone i usually skip because it’s more mush in lowlight conditions So if it’s better then maybe those lenses would be useable? Who knows but I think I can stick out the 12 pro max to find out Just been super eager Because in my mind I can try out log and beast cage on the 15 pro and have those months of practicing with the colours and grading vs waiting for the next best thing and not getting the experience So grateful for the support and the community you built here everyone is so helpful and kind, thank you so much and time will tell !
When is recorded in slow montion for example 60/30 then the footage starts to flickering. The app is amazing but still needs to be improved.Once it has been improved properly I think then is not going to be free of charge anymore ;-)
Interesting could be a bug or it may be you need to use an ND filter - the shutter might be doing some weird stuff if it’s bright outside. But hopefully they’ll keep it free!
I am still amazed that this app is free with so many pro features. Good job on your videos.
That’s a great feature definitely saves time in the editing. Great job on your video. You make it simple and easy to understand.
Thanks for watching!
This is a great time saving feature for shooting slow-mo. Especially helpful when shooting hand held and removing or minimizing shake.
Filmic Pro shot themselves in the foot with that pay per month model.
Yep they sold to Bending Spoons and then they changed it up. Now none of the OG Filmic guys are even with the company.

In 4k. You can do 120 in HD.

When you shoot in off-speed mode it automatically plays back in slow motion.
