Thank you for this series on this k46 transmission. I subscribed and watched them all several times through. I was given a D170 a couple weeks ago because it broke and owner wanted nothing to do with it. With your instructions and explanation....and less than $200 the tractor is repaired without much hassle. I didn't even lose that little "tic tac". Great experience!
Damaged a tire on my Scag Zero turn. The dealer wanted $150 for one rear tire. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx985f3iNjxHFMO6JoE7CSGActiIEyumFx Local tire store wanted $95 for one tire and both said I would need two tires because the replacements were 2 ply and the OEM was 4 ply which would result in different diameters when inflated if not mounted in pairs. I ordered two of these for less than $90, they arrived in two days instead of the promised 5 days. they are 4 ply rated and when mounted I can't tell the difference with the Grassmaster that came on my Scag, except the sidewall doesn't appear to be as stiff. Tread pattern is identical with the Grassmaster. Will keep the other new tire as an extra if the other OEM is damaged.
Brian thank you for the informative videos. I'm far from a master mechanic. I actually bought the entire transmission unit and thanks to your videos was able to pull the old unit and install the new one quick and easy.
What a coincidence, the drive belt on my MTD lawn tractor shredded this morning. Had to remove the deck to clean it, a lot of cotter pins! Your vid is timely, thank you!!
Great video. I did not rebuild ny of the inside of the K46 hydrostatic transmission on my John Deere L111 with 560 service hours on it. It was not climbing hills once it got hot. I did change the fluid, however, and now it works great. I used full-synthetic 20W-50. This video shows how to easily remove the transmission.
Thanks for taking the time to put all 6 toghether. I watched them and did the rebuild and all is well. I like that you gave shout outs to double wide 6, 65 ford and punch your eye hole. After viewing one of those I see why you did your videos, filling in some additional and helpful details. Nice work!
Hey Brian! awesome video. i found my problem in the transmission. the thrust pump bearing exploded under the pump. ball bearings everywhere. i went through the whole transmission made sure i had collected all the exploded bearing pieces. Your video was a helpful tool. Tuff Torque had the parts to replace them. waiting for the parts to get back. THX AGAIN BRIAN!!!!
Thank you so very much for your videos on how to remove the transmission, I was able to remove mine off my LA130 and replace the oil with some much better quality stuff recommended in your later videos. Your videos were clear, and easy to follow, so thanks again for taking the time to do them! Keep up the great work and I will be sure to look up your videos again if ever I need them.
well detailed video my gx85 going slow at first then finally won tgo foward or backwards i plan a new blet for yran and check my keys on wheels. so far ive rated your videos the best brian thanks ,
Thanks for this, Brian. I swapped out a K46 with about 500 hours on it for a new one. Worst part of it was getting the yellow dust caps off the axle ends. ;^) Surprised it held up as long as it did - decided it was time for the change when it wouldn't back up more than a few feet on a modest incline. I'm anxious to see what the oil looks like after 500 hours of abuse.
Best video I’ve seen on doing this. I’ve done mine a few times and this is the best. I’m curious to know about taking the bracket off that the forward/reverse line goes into on the rear end.
Wonderfully done video series. Thank you for going to the work of putting it together. Even those of us who are engine/transmission challenged and not motorcycle/auto mechanics can do this.....maybe. You make it look so easy. I've got to get into mine so I'll have your videos on a laptop.
Thank you so much for your great video series on rebuilding the Tuff Torque transmission. It was my total guide to successfully rebuilding the trans. in my JD LA175.
I've spent 31 years on this planet. I am in a rabbit hole of youtube videos and about 15 videos before this I heard, "Bob is your uncle" and the meaning of it, for the first time in my life. Somehow, after 31 years, I heard the meaning and usage in one single sitting.... I need to go to bed! haha
Excellent tutorial Brian. Thanks to your vid I tackled my own Tuff Torq rebuild - successfully! I gave you a shout-out at Tuff Torq K66 Hydrostatic Transaxle Rebuild - Part 2 . Thanks again, pal. Saved me a lot of money, and fixing something that was considered useless is a real confidence booster.
Thanks for these videos. I used them to rebuild my trans over the winter. First time out this year, I had a nice amount of power and then slowed to a crawl after about 1 hour. Pretty much same as before the rebuild. Any ideas on what might be the problem?
Sidecuts.. u meant diagonal cutters.. I'm repowering a l100 w a cv460 kohler and moving a pedal operated hydrostatic from a lt160 to it as well. Have to modify linkage to retrofit it into handle
Just a caution shout out. I bought a YTH22v46 Husqvarna with a Tuff Torque hydrostatic transmission. Ever (3 years ago) since day one it seems that that it would intermittently have lack of power or slippage with the drive. Don't do like I did. I thought since it was new it couldn't POSSIBLY be the fan belt ! After much tribulation of discovering the transmission "could be drained by removing it and turning it upside down and then refilled with the heavier weight oil. Only as a LAST RESORT did I buy a new belt (1" shorter in length) and walaa ! It worked correctly! Good luck
I watched your video I found you know what your doing. I have a LA115 I think it is the same transmission. My problem is I am getting oil on the axel on the left side. I would say it is an axel seal. To fix this do I have to tear the whole transmission apart or can it be put on from outside. Thank You Scott
Hi wondering if you can tell me please... the internal parking brake pads inside transmission... is there meant to be a brake pad at both ends? The brake pad part number M809658 is riny. It fits beautifully in one side. The other end has a larger slot though, which should? mean a larger brake pad, but there is no part number for this. Have you any experience with this please? Thank you.
I have my L130 transmission pan off, trying to figure what is wrong. The mower runs fine on flat ground. It's slow pulling hills, almost to a stop and has a little winie sound. What parts need replaced? Talking to a JD dealer parts man said I needed a seal kit.
I got the motor and housing out, pistons look and feel fine, very little play with the pistons. The pump, is it suppose to be loose on the shaft, I mean wiggle around a lot?
It’s a good video but it doesn’t apply to the LA105. No brake pedal...only a left side pedal for transmission...which is really jerky when I let off the pedal. Any ideas? I’m getting ready to check fluid level if it even had any in it. Thanks.
Thanks for a great video, Brian! I can get a transmission from a John Deere LX172 parts tractor. But, the yard can't tell me if the trans had been working properly. Is there a way to determine whether the transmission is in good shape, other than buying it and installing it? Thank you!
there is a bolt with nut on the right side, is this a adjusting bolt? I have l130 that is going slow when it gets hot. I have pulled tran. and replaced the oil with 40wt synth. oil.
I have a question for you if you could answer. I have an LA 115 and an LA 135, I’m sure they’re both the same transmission. The LA 115 is very peppy climbs hills easily, the LA 135 which has half the hours with a twin engine doesn’t seem to climb very well. Do you think swapping the transmissions will help my LA 135 perform much better?. My objective is to sell the LA 115 and keep only the 135. So, with the help of your videos here on the John Deere transmission I can now swap them. Thanks
At the gas pedal linkage it looks like it has a keeper going through the middle of it but in the video it looked to me like you just turned it to remove?
Hi Brian I watch all your videos. This is a great great great video. I would give it a million thumbs up if I could. This is good stuff to know! Anxiously awaiting next video on this!!
I bought it with a transmission that would go for 20 feet and then whine and not go anywhere. It was a combination of poor lubrication (John Deere being cheap) and the owner over doing it. (too much weight)
+Adrian Hanea You have to order from Tuff Torq. They're the folks who make the transmission for John Deere. J.D. will just sell you the whole transmission or the whole tractor.
i have a LX172 sir and it doesnt want to pull a hill with the grass buggies full. Do u know what my cause that ??? Just replace the pto/clutch for the mower last weekend.

Holy cow that a great and informative video! About to pull mine today to change the old fluid! 400 hours on it
You have no idea how much this video helped me today, thank you sir.
Dude ! An actual swift and professional video!! I’m histatic I’ve found ya and how you whip this out. To cool!

Good sir thanks
great videos - look my L120 has a much needed repair coming. thanks!
Outstanding job & edit !
I have a d125. Any chance this is same repair?
great vid!!! love the R.P. poster in the backround

After pulling the wire harness for the reverse brake guard you pulled something and "pulled it around here"... What were you pulling arround? Thanks
You're awesome! This is just what I've been looking for.
How do you take the brake arm off the trans does that pin drive out
Hi i need your help if you can. I need to remove the starter on a L 120. Everything i see on line is not showing what i need to see. can you help

I would expect you're right. Fluid is low or contaminated with debris.
i have a question what rear ends will enter change with a john Deere lt 190 lawn mower? thank you
Thanks for a great video, Brian!
I can get a transmission from a John Deere LX172 parts tractor. But, the yard can't tell me if the trans had been working properly. Is there a way to determine whether the transmission is in good shape, other than buying it and installing it? Thank you!

Can you tell me how to remove the drive lever in the front of the shaft at the 1:04 mark in your video? It is still on the mower.

Replace the drive belt and attempt any adjustments that might help first.
Where can I buy spare parts for the transmission of a john deere la130?
Awesome video's very helpful ,thank you so much!
paul arena You're welcome Paul! Great to see you here.
thanks for your efforts...
I have a question john lt155 The pedal position can this be wrong when I put it on reverse Star drive to the From
pei br
At the gas pedal linkage it looks like it has a keeper going through the middle of it but in the video it looked to me like you just turned it to remove?
More than 1 way to skin a cat right?
THANKS FOR THE VERY HELPFUL VIDEO!!
I am lucky to have a John Deere also with only regular maintenance issues over the 10 years I have had it.
Is it possible to swap to a hydrostatic on my lt133 from a big box store Saber?
Another interesting project - Thanks Brian!
Welcome John- thanks for stopping by.
how much did you say the rebuild kit costs?
Nice RON PAUL "TRUTH" Sign. Amen!
how can I get front axle bolt off. it won't budge or nothin
Hi Brian I watch all your videos. This is a great great great video. I would give it a million thumbs up if I could. This is good stuff to know! Anxiously awaiting next video on this!!
Nice video. What was the problem with the tranny?
Why isn't there a video that shows how to change the fluid?
Need help with my JD LT180 automatic
Is there already a problem with that transmission?
Because the mower seems to be brand new!
Maybe you say it in the video, but I don't hear it.
I bought it with a transmission that would go for 20 feet and then whine and not go anywhere. It was a combination of poor lubrication (John Deere being cheap) and the owner over doing it. (too much weight)
***** John Deere sells models at the dealers that have the identical transaxle and the identical problems.
You could have put a LOT more light in there.
Where can I find the rebuild kit?
+Adrian Hanea You have to order from Tuff Torq. They're the folks who make the transmission for John Deere. J.D. will just sell you the whole transmission or the whole tractor.
That was not a woodruff key. It was a typical square key.
I fixed mine. Thanks!
I have a feeling I'm going to need this reference one day. These seem to have a lot of problems.
Sometimes I buy a "problem" just to have an excuse to take it as a project. Kind of like doing a puzzle.
Brian, what brand gloves are you using, they look very durable. Thanks for the great video. Will attempt to fix my tranny on my L130.
i have a LX172 sir and it doesnt want to pull a hill with the grass buggies full. Do u know what my cause that ??? Just replace the pto/clutch for the mower last weekend.
My tractor won’t go foward or reverse? E100
Why de' hell you say drive belt replace, and U be workin on transfusion?
+Bob Griffin The "tranfusion" is a hydraulic pump type that is powered through a belt.
Excellent video. Thank you. Wait, Bob's my uncle? :-)
Cool beans.
Lowe's junk. Not a true Deere. Unlike my LX279, which is a true Deere.
any thing made by john deere is a true deere lol
Not true. They are a junk tractor period. I bought mine from a Deere dealer that had tractors bigger than my house. Yep, still junk.
