- To keep the pie crust edge from burning, it needs to have a shield added halfway through the baking so the rest of the pie can bake and brown. An Iowa Mom shows an easy way to create that shield.
THANK YOU for this demonstration! It's so much easier than the cutting and fitting method I've always used!!! And so much cheaper than the silicone shields you can buy!
So glad this was helpful. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
I found your video after really struggling with the pieces of foil to cover the pie crust. Soooo frustrating! Before I filled the second pie, I found your video. This idea saved my "mental." I was about to give up baking pies. Thanks so much!! This is GREAT!
I'm so glad you are not giving up on baking pies. Thanks for the great comment.
Perfect - too bad I came looking for an alternative AFTER struggling with pieces of foil that wouldn't really stay put. Ugh! So frustrating. I figured there had to be an alternative and here it is. I know what to do next time. THANK YOU!
The next pie will be easier now. 😀
Not only is this an easy and simple solution but it WORKS. Thank you so much for sharing.
I'm in the middle of baking a couple of Thanksgiving pies right now. About to use this awesome trick. Thank you!
So glad. Hope your pies turn out awesome.
Spent a couple of very late night hours reading reviews of pie crust protectors on Amazon. Pretty poor reviews no matter the brand - size claimed is incorrect (too small), the silicon doesn't really work, leaving the pie crust burned, etc., etc. Finally gave up and Googled for suggestions. Got written advice but your demo was the easiest to follow. Now, doesn't matter what size pie pan I use, I have easily available protection. So ingenious ... love it. Thank you!
Thank you for the tutorial! Much appreciated.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 🎄🎁🎊🎉🎆🎇
Thanks for your comment, janedoe-hq9vn. The same to you. :)
Thank you Mom!! 🥰🌺
Thank you for posting this easy to follow video! I know this will be very helpful as I'm making pies for Christmas.
I haven't tried this yet, but it's a more convenient way to cut...... once I find the dishes to measure with. lol Thank you so much!
OMG! I can't tell you how many crusts I ruined because of crimping that damned foil! Thank you! This is much better!
Oh my gosh! Thank you!! 😁 I have messed up a little of my crust trying the old method. Doing this right now! Thank you so much for making this video!!💜
You are very welcome, Tiffany Williams. Enjoy the pie. 😀
Well! You just saved Thanksgiving! Thank you! 🙌🏼 🥧
You're amazing!!! I'm having trouble finding the pre-made ones, so you just made my life a lot easier. Thank you!!!
So glad this was a blessing to you. Thanks for watching.
OMG, you are a goddess! I needed this video. I knew I need foil, just shaping it is such a pain!
Haha, just an Iowa mom, but thanks. So glad you like the tip
best thing since sliced bread! Thank you!
This is perfect. Having the foil fall off when the pie goes into the oven was so frustrating. Thanks for this.
I second this! Very aggravating...
Many Mahalo (thank you) and blessings from Hawaii. What an awesome and easy solution!
What a delight to read your message. Thanks, Normia Carter
Thanks
Anyhony Ritchue, thanks for your comment. I was excited to find such an easy fix for an age old prolem.
Nice video. I'll try this. I think that once you trace the outer circle and fold the foil into fourths that you can freehand the cut of the inner circle or use the same pie plate to trade another line a couple of inches from the outer edge and trace the curve with a sharpie. It might be a bit faster.
Glad you liked the video and, yes, you can eye ball the second circle. It doesn't have to be perfect to work as long as it protects that edge.
You are my hero!!!
:) Thank you, Rachel Carson
You made my Thanksgiving pies so much easier! Thank you!
Thanks 😀
THANK YOU!!!! Oh how I hate fiddling with the little strips...
I hear you. Me too. :)
Love this thank you 😊
So glad. Enjoy your pie making. :)
Thanks mom
:) You are welcome
Awesome. Wish I did that before I made by blueberry pie!
Thank you for a great video!!
Thank you, Elizabeth Horton. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
@@IowaMom Thank you so much easy right WRONG but you made it easy finally. AMAZING
Way to go Iowa Mom

But how do you keep the ink from the marker from melting into the pie?
Thanks for the question. I don't think the permanent marks would melt into the pie but if you are concerned just put the marker side upward when putting on the pie.
Inner circle❤️💛💚
Can someone tell me how to do this when the pie is already 350 degrees? I am not that dextrous with pot holders.
I would just put it on at the beginning then. It may not be as brown but it will be done and not burnt.
Holy cow…thanks so much..I’m gonna use it for my single serve chicken pot pies!!!!…you would think that Marie Calendars chicken pot pie company would have these already packaged, in with the box..you need to go work for them, and create it. Nobody likes a burnt outer edge of any kind of pie..thanks
