- Is the "practice of homosexuality" compatible with Christian teaching? That question is at the center of a debate between progressive and conservative members of the United Methodist Church, one of the largest Protestant denominations in the United States. This debate is taking place at the same time that states and the U.S. Supreme Court are considering whether same-sex marriages are constitutional.
"A Church Divided" introduces viewers to the clergy, the couples, and the congregations battling to influence the Methodists' official policy towards gays and lesbians. This documentary was produced in collaboration with KQED.

another explanation is that the influence of the gospel has led the world to make an advance in morality in spite of the church, while the church has gotten itself into a position where it can't easily get itself out of and repent of its evil without losing face.

This passage from 1 John emphasizes the centrality of love. It suggests that love is always from God, and a reflection of God. Thus any genuine love, no matter what form it takes, comes from God and glorifies God.
Gods word does not change. Men's record of it does. As we, men, of sin wrote the bible inspired by God we corrupted his words. Left some out. Added some in. You treat the words in the bible AS God rather than words inspired by God filled with corruptions. The holy spirit was with the progressives. Speaking to them to right the wrongs written by men. For they had the words of God in their stories of Love for one another. For their community and most of all; For God. Denying the homosexual and the pure love two of the same sex can have for eachother is like denying the love God has for all. For God loves us more deeply and intimately than any other person ever can. Same sex love is included in the bible. He loves all of his creation of course. And his love for the men within his creation is the inspiration that instills homosexuality. That love God (a man) had for Adam (also a man) is what rendered Eve, and what inspires homosexuality. For like a child, God bore woman from the chest of Adam.

But don’t expect to escape the judgement of God. “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. It’s clear that “following the masses” is a strategy of fools.

Since when was the law of God up for debate? God is immutable. He does not change. His word does not change. This is what happens when the Spirit of God is no longer in churches. If we compare the beginnings of the Methodist church when it was founded by John and Charles Wesley and see its current form, we can only say the the Spirit of God is MIA.

As the laws of Pharisees and Sadducees were over turned by Christ. So too must we revise the holy word to better reflect the love of God. To better love our neighbor, whether they be homosexual or not, and become more Christ-like.
I lived a gay life for 25 years and today after going through trials in my life I fully surrendered my gay life to God and asked God to give me a new life in Christ. Since then since 2011 all of my problems and all of my enemies are gone and whats left is peace within myself with a new life! God delivered me out of that nasty old life and made me a new person, a new creation in Christ. I will never go back to the gay life ever again. I know the truth and the Truth set me free!

There's nothing confusing about any of this. It's crystal clear as day the Bible condemns any and all acts of sodomy, sexual deviancy, and homosexuality. Any true Christian believes that no homosexual can ever truly become a Christian, lest they cease their sinful ways, confess their sins, seek atonement for them, and be born anew. Only Protestant heretics think this nonsense is okay. Protestantism in the modern age has absolutely corrupted Christianity with its heretical interpretations of Biblical scripture, believing that that Bible and its teachings are malleable.
All of this "confusion" stems almost exclusively from Protestantism. Protestantism is heresy, plain and simple.

I've watched this whole video and went back to the 8:00 (minute) mark. Karen refuses to repent for her lifestyle. If she's done nothing wrong, then there's nothing to repent for and that should be her argument back. However, it's not. Her argument back is a flat out refusal to repent. The bible clearly states the consequences for that decision. I also noticed that (9:34) mark she stated that "I just don't want you to tell me that I can't have one." She's missing the mark here because the "you" she's referring to are the believers on the other side of the table/debate. However, they're not the ones saying she's wrong for the relationship she's in, they're simply following God's word. This tells me that Karen actually has a problem with God's standard for marriage and refuses to turn from that. That's her choice, but with that come consequences.

This is so confusing for me as a heterosexual Christian. I'm torn. I want the truth. I can only imagine the struggle of homosexuals who love God. How is it okay for us to not allow them to love God. I feel like we are saying "No, your not worthy of Christ's love." I just want to know if God will accept a homosexual into his kingdom. It sounds like a terribly immature and stupid question but to me it is a concern because although it doesn't affect me it affects people I care about. I want to be able to lead others into the truth but I need to know the truth in order to do that. I know of gay couples who are Christians and I kind of think well how can it be wrong then? But then I know of homosexuals that are Christians and they believe that it's wrong themselves. So who has the truth??? I see many Christians doing wrong things and I do myself. That doesn't mean that we ignore Gods law, do what we want, and hope for the best. Ugh. I just can't imagine God saying ''Sorry, you can't enter my kingdom. Although you lived a life for me, you loved someone of the same gender.'' But I am not God. This is just so confusing.

Christianity is a false religion. The theology is a lie. Jesus is not God. Jesus did not rise. Jesus is not coming back. THEY LIED.
It is confusing, until we accept the Biblical authority as the Word of God, relevant to people of all ages, and study it as such. Then it becomes very clear. It is also important to differentiate between sinful acts (homosexual sexual deeds) and the people who are tempted to do such deeds, perhaps due to suffering and temptations in their lives.
A church that turns away sinners is not a christian (as in Christ following) church. A church that does not follow scripture is by definition not a christian ( Christ following) church, since Christ is the very Word of God. There is no dichotomy. Rebuking sin is not equal to turning away a sinner.

"Love the sinner, hate the sin" is a nice way of thinking in theory; however, most times our hate for the sin also causes hate for the sinner. It is difficult for people to love someone but hate something that is such a big part of their lives.
So do we throw the bible out? Over and over and over the bible condemns sexual sin and especially homosexuality. There is no way of getting around it. The real answer is to tell them they are living in sin, but tell them in love. To not tell them the truth is to not love them.

I disagree, I think it is a choice and there are factors that move it. But let’s say I’m wrong. Let’s say you are born gay. That doesn’t mean you have to act on it and have sex with other men. Because the Bible says it is a sin you can choose to be celibate.
And yes, all of those things that you mentioned, you are right, the Bible makes it very clear, and I have criticized churches for singling out homosexuality and not addressing their own congregants who are living together and not married, gambling, whoring about at all of that. And I’ll be honest with you the church has been very hypocritical of that, acting like one sin is greater than another sin, and so on. We all have baggage. We are all sinners in need of a savior.
But I will say also, it is a tad bit different when we sin with our bodies.

I tried to be straight once because I felt forced by my church but sex with men repulsed me, I would just kind of lay there and disassociate until it was over( felt like rape), no connection whatsoever. Never once did Jesus say anything about Homosexuality! The word Homosexuality is not mentioned until 1946 in any Bible. It is only mentioned when changes appeared in the written word. In the King James Bible, the word Homosexuality is not mentioned Once, Love is mentioned 310 times. Most Bibles have 67 books in it, yet Catholics have some more, but what about the books missing fro0m the Bible? There is no Book of Noah, but more importantly, why is there no book of JUDAS? (See the Dead Sea Scrolls). What if the Angels that were in SODOM were female angels, the whole interpretation of Sodom and Gomorrah, is different. If you believe in the totality of the word of the Bible, then Adam and Eve being the only people created by God, we were all thereafter born of incest. Think also about how many women are mentioned in the Bible, for your evaluation.

Whenever this subject is debated I'm always struck by how disingenuous and brazenly manipulative the pro-homosexuality advocates are.
You see same sex couples where both individuals are clearly kind, decent, caring people who believe in Jesus and the gospel. They fully appreciate the love that Jesus has for all and in that spirit ask in heartfelt terms - how can it be wrong for us to love each other? How can it be a sin against God to spend your life with the person that you love? Are we really sinners for simply being homosexual - for being that which God created us to be? Are we to spend our lives alone because of it?
If you are a compassionate Christian it's hard not to be moved when the argument is put in these terms - that's why they do it. But the real issue here is not one of love - forbidden or otherwise.
Being attracted to members of your own gender - not a sin.
Loving somebody of your own gender - not a sin.
Spending your life with someone of your own gender - not a sin.
So what's the problem?
Well the problem is that when they say "I love my partner and I want to be with them" they actually mean I want to have sex with my same sex partner. That's what it all comes down to. They know that in the Bible God forbids it and that obviously they can't persuade God to change his mind.
But their desire to have sex is so strong that they're going to do it anyway and in order to make themselves feel justified in their sin they want the Church to say that it's ok and to sanction same sex unions. Basically they'd prefer to go to condemnation taking the whole Church with them rather than resist their urge to have sex.
Keep this is in mind the next time this issue comes up and the homosexual lobby tries to pull on your emotional heartstrings.

When did god ever say that it was okay to condemn someone just because they are different than you or believe in something you don’t? Because of sin we were all condemned by God's law, we were all in debt for our sin and faced punishment, that is why God came in the flesh (Jesus) and took our punishment and paid for our sin and rose again to set us free from death (Hell) releasing us from the consequences of the Law, by taking the punishment of death on himself, that is how much he loves you and me, no matter how much he is rejected and scoffed. There is too much detail to explain it, if you don't believe, you wont grasp it, you will only try to find fault and errors, of which there are none with the God i serve. Wasn’t it originally ‘man shall not lie with a child’? It was some fancy Latin or Hebrew word that I can’t spell, but it basically meant don’t commit pedophilia, not it’s wrong to be gay. It was altered later on to conform to the ideals of the time and was simply never changed back.
Also, what about those who aren’t religious? They don’t need to follow the church, so what do they care? I came from a very religious family, and my mother (a minister) actually fought FOR LGBT rights in my home city, credit to her.
