  • I may be a little too excited about this pin basting hack I figured out! You can baste your quilt with pins by hanging the quilt sandwich up! Cool, right? This quilt has definitely had its challenges, but it's so much fun working on it, and I can't wait to show you how I baste a quilt using pins. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments section!

I was thinking this stand you are using could be used to arrange blocks on your quilt top. I don't have a wall that I can useas a design wall. I would hang a sheet on the stand and then pin my blocks to it. That way I could step back and see it better before sewing blocks together. And when I'm done I can take it down and store it for the next time.

If you use a dollar tree vinyl table cloth that has a flannel back, you can stick the blocks to the flannel side and they usually stick, so you can arrange. I do it on a bed

    Hi there !
Just a suggestion from my own experience that worked very good for me:
If you could have another person to help you, you can baste by sewing instead of using safety pins. If you stay in front of the quilt and your hubby/sister/friend/neighbor (?) in the back side, you pass the needle back and forth until it’s all basted. No special skill required to achieve that with a person who does not know to sew anything; just pass the needle !
Much easier and convenient during the quilting process, not to deal with keeping track and removing needles.
And of course the basting thread should be a color easy to see to remove after quilting.
Hope you can use this tip sometime.

I thread baste on my own using a curved needle - the needle hooks in and back out easily. I run the thread directly from the spool, then cut and tie after the line is finished, really speeds up the process.

As another person suggested, you can use curved sewing needle to baste on your own without needing a helper. Your method of having the quilt vertically instead of horizontally is very good idea. I do that using wooden quilting hangers bought from temu.

This is a great space saving (and back and knee saving) way to baste a quilt! I prefer thread basting as I batch baste and stash my tops. I love that you/ can reach around the back to check for wrinkles. The photographers frame is a great idea - really convenient and efficient.

Great idea, and I really like how you navigated what the quilt needed, instead of just doing what you’re used to doing (glue basting, or pin basting on a horizontal hard surface). It is really good to learn when to problem solve instead of making a mistake and creating a problem (this time, when you protected the large block prints, from washing and pins). Also, could you please post the music link in the description, I would like to hear the whole song, and to know more. Nice editing on this video too. 🙌🏄‍♂️🌱🌿🍀
