Hands down, the best Amateur Bowler on RUclips. For all the new bowlers out there, there is a lot of misinformation out there. Trust this guy. Keep up the great work Jason. 🔥💪🏼
My big issue is trying to control my swing to match my foot speed rather than the other way around. Took me doing a push away drill a couple of times to help spot the problem. Speeding up my feet helped in creating a more relaxed, free swing. I've seen a ton of bowling tutorials on here and most don't bother to break down muscling or how to achieve a free/loose swing. This video provides a great explanation of both. Thank you for sharing this.
Excellent to see a coaching session. The added notes on the screen are very helpful. Great job! Subscribed. My struggle is age…..havent bowled for 34 years, now everything is stiff, cant bend like you guys, lose balance…..ugh……I was a 195 bowler back in the 1980’s……having a tough grind right now trying to fix everything thats broken!
I experience close to no fatigue after a league match after getting this advice. Took a while for it to feel natural, but my arm still feel great after any league match/practice session. Another piece of advice that goes hand and hand is to keep the shoulder as straight as possible when swinging. The moment you start moving the shoulder around, usually from trying to muscle the ball, thats when bad things happen
I watch all the main bowling channels, just wanted to tell you that yours is one i really look forward to. You put up good content, keep up the good work and you're gonna grow. Also, I've created a drinking game where whenever you say teensy you drink. :)
The hardest aspect for me to comprehend is how can you get through the ball while being extremely loose/free. There has to be some muscling or grabbing at some stage right? Just holding the ball to maintain position under/behind the ball requires some effort
It is really hard to find the right balance. I've been using my shoulder way too much for years. I'm just now properly learning to keep my grip, letting my arm swing freely, and still follow through
@@tymarmaras I definitely struggle with the aspect as well. Obviously, like you said, we have to use some grip tension to hold on to a ball. The objective is to use as little as possible to make sure we are not decelerating the arm swing and/grabbing the ball too much. The feeling I’m looking for is to have the ball “float” at the top of the swing. If I feel that, then I know I didn’t muscle to that point. As you might know, we can generate more effortless power using loose fast twitch muscles. Maybe start with some slow no step drills and let gravity work. Literally let it fall off your hand without trying to make rev rate. Then take that feeling to your full approach. Let me know how it goes 😁
I think a lot of the problems stem from their thumb fit. In most cases, fit is too loose and you have to grip to hold on. A test I do is pick up my ball with just my thumb in the ball with very little thumb bend, if you can pick up the ball, fit is good. Also, use interchangeable thumb system, since thumb fit is the most critical thing for one handers.
Guys, hand "tilt" and acceleration will fix this. If you are behind the ball with your fingers in line with your wrist, the ball weight means you almost have to squeeze to hold. If you are accelerating the ball through the bottom of your swing, the ball stays on your hand more easily. More importantly is tilting your hand so that the index finger is at 12 o'clock and the base of the thumb is at 4 (in your setup, the palm is facing nearly straight up, like the two handers). With this position the ball has to fall off your fingers and thumb to "drop" the ball. So set your hand in this position, maintain this keeping your hand behind the ball through the swing, accelerate (moderate, dont go crazy here) and roll the hand and wrist through release to a handshake position. ALSO get the ball down and rolling... unless you are bowling somewhere with no head oil, then you have to project the ball farther down the lane.
As well as I use too much muscle I also find that the best drill for me is the shoulder release drill. Just walk up there put the ball in your hand and let it fold. Your brain will tell you when you need to release it
I’ve seen this on numerous videos, but I have no idea how you can’t muscle when you hit the ball at the end of the swing. Unless you’re just throwing it straight. Still trying to figure it out.
A drill I used at home to fix my muscled swing was to get into the finish position and swing a 15lb kettlebell back and forth to create the feel. You might need to hang on to something for balance.
Watch ANY slow motion of the most consistent bowlers on tour, like EJ, Andrew Anderson, Kris Prather etc. even Daria. They all have the elbow bend and it's consistent because it uses momentum, not muscle. It's the most consistent way to get high revs with one hand.
I was practicing the other day before league. I know my basics, but I was working on my release and such. Yes, I know not a great idea to do before league, but here's the thing, during league my forearm starting to feel sore, but I felt loose and I see I had more revs than usual. Now, my question is.. is it normal to have your forearm sore a bit? I know doing something new before league and kept doing in during league is not a good idea and should practice NOT on league days. Only reason why I practice before league is because it is the only day I have to even practice. I do stay more behind and under the ball more than before and have more revs, but my forearm just felt so damn sore after 2nd game going into 3rd.. LOL is that normal?
Most likely its because you are trying to emulate the TOTAL BULLSHIT wrist motion that seemingly ALL of these coaches show. You know, the arm motion and flipping the wrist DOWN! Simply put... IT AINT HOW ITS DONE! The only way you can get close to that demonstration would require a fully cupped wrist with the ball on your forearm -OR- 2 handed where the second hand provides the physical strength necessary to cup the wrist. You want revs.... very simple, when you place the ball in your setup, put your hand directly UNDER the ball with your index finger parallel to your forearm pointing down the lane. The ball position should also be aligned with your shoulder (not in the middle of your body). If you maintain this set up then your hand will end up behind the ball as it swings through the approach. Now at release, the key is to either maintain or increase the swing speed (this is usually pretty easy as gravity and ball weight create this for you) through the bottom of the swing. As the ball begins to come off the thumb quickly rotate the hand from behind the ball to the side of the ball similarly to a handshake (this speed increase keeps the hand and fingers on/in the ball). Finally do not try to pull up on the ball (usually caused by an elbow break and is referred to as hitting up on the ball) rather get the ball down and rolling. The cover stock and weight block will generate additional rotation that most bowlers cant actually work with. So if your goal is to break pins, crush racks, messenger the back row.... this is how it's done.
@RevItUpBowling idk if I'm the only one with this issue but did you ever have someone with there slide foot when sliding it going to the right causing knee pain any idea to fix that
Bro great lesson but I need that due to just listen band ask questions. Got irritated watching this cause he kept trying to complete Jason’s statements… PLEASE…. do another lesson video JUST NOT WITH DUDE.
Jesus Christ. I only watched for less than seven minutes, but I see the glaring and fundamental problem that isn't being talked about. This guy gets WAY too friggin bent over and #low to the ground, to the point he would be banging his hand on the floor unless he does that awkward chicken-wing action with his arm. That should be the very first thing you talk about. There's no way to even have a normal arm swing until that's corrected. This simple first step will change his life and liberate his game. Take a freeze frame of his release and tell me I'm wrong. Or just go into your watch history and look at the thumbnail for this vid. It couldn't be more obvious.
It’s unnatural to keep your arm swing free while he bends over with his shoulders not square and some what straight at the finish . He grab because , his body is reacting to not falling . When he tried to demonstrate his swing it was unnatural for him Because his finish is square and more up than bent .
The concept of speed is over rated. The roll-hook shape that you need to strike is primary. The speed is thirdly. Secondary is ball projection. You get consumed with speed and every other aspect goes to hell. Thumb releases first, then fingers lift. These little manipulations are a can of worms. You do this, you do that, then trying that. That is insane.
JP is destroying his pendulum by bending his arm. This shortens his arc and causes his deceleration on the downswing. This comes from using the muscles in his arm and wrist to try and get more revs on the ball. When it comes to revs, less is more. A loose arm and hand generate more speed and revs than a tight arm and a cupped wrist. Get this guy to stop trying to hit up at the ball and his speed and revs will eventually increase. Get him to bend more at the waist so his backswing can get higher. This lesson is missing the point and this JP is not going to get better.
What’s with the LV pattern on his shirt? Is LV sponsoring this cat? Has bowling become a sport where the bowlers are into material BS? Bowling is a kids game or a lonely man’s pastime

@@michaelvaneman I love this drill too. Great suggestion
One question, it's obvious that prince is taller but he uses a lot of knee bend to get really low at the foul line. Does this affect his speed also?
He is starting from a traditional approach, but he is taller than tradition, he needs a little more runway to get the timing he needs
The bent elbow just prior to follow through defeats the purpose of loose swing … it’s right back to the muscles abruptly usually resulting in tug.
If you let gravity bend your wrist at the apex of your swing, your elbow will naturally bend without having to use a lot of muscle.

If I ever try to add revs the moment I start coming to the bottom of my swing I just can’t hold the ball and it slams into the ground
Even when I don’t try to add revs and throw it straight I still just drop the ball sometimes

Damn, Listen and allow the Coach to coach, Son!
He is. As a coach you know they're listening when they are engaging in conversation. That's what you want.
I think his torso is moving forward to0 much on his 4th step. Restricting the swing to be loose. He's like bowing in his slide
Of course hed have a jersey with LV pattern 😂
Bro keeps on slowing the downswing, a lot of muscle and never extends his elbow. He has to understand the ball moves the arm not the other way around.
