- Pierre Cochereau performs one of Louis Vierne's "Pièces de Fantaisie" in a recording made in the early 1970's. Cochereau was titulaire at Notre Dame from 1955 until his death, at the age of 59, in 1984. In the first 84 years of the 20th century, the organ bench at Notre Dame was occupied by only 3 organists: Vierne, Léonce de Saint Martin, & Cochereau.

So very sad about today's tragedy. I'm mourning
6 days ago I was in Paris and I visited Notre Dame.
I was so lucky that someone was playing the organ.
The sound is so beautiful.

Wow. Amazing. What a genius Vierne is. Cochereau is also amazing because when I listen to this video, I am thinking about Vierne, not Cochereau. Thank you sooooo much for this video!

So sad to think that, with tonight's catastrophic fire, we will never hear this magnificent instrument live again.

The Duke the organ has been found undamaged by the fire.
