THANKS TOTAL GYM. FOR HELPING ME LOOSE 70 LBS. IN A YEAR. I USED TO BODYBUILD FROM THE AGE OF 16 TO 35. I'VE TRIED IT ALL. AND BELIEVE ME. NOTHING... ABSOLUTELY NO MACHINE WORKS OVERALL BETTER THAN MY TOTAL GYM. BLESS YOU ALL.
I just got my total gym on wed. I watched the videos and the entire story about the total gym. I educated myself before I start using it. I was doing a lot of cardio when VCR"s we're out. I lost 120 lbs. I have a treadmill. Now it's time for the Total gym since VCR"S are gone. Excited can't wait. Thank you Total Gym
Bought mine in 1984, still works great. I can get in my workout in 50 minutes ! I set it for high reps for an aerobic type workout, and the next day low reps to build power ! Love it ! And unlike free weights, it is almost impossible to hurt yourself .
Very interesting info! I love this video. It's so cool to see the history of the 'Total Gym'. Back in 2006 I bought a couple of used 'Total Gyms' for the wife and I and we loved them. But traveling and working on cruise ships as an entertainer kept me from using them so, we sold both. Now retired and with back and knee issues, lifting weights is no longer a safe option. So, we just bought a new 'Total Gym' G5. We are excited to start exercising with it and get back in shape! Thanks SO much to 'Total Gym' for making an affordable, safe and effective home Gym for all ages.
Awesome video! I'm 6'5" and bought by Total Gym 11000 in May of 2004. I still use it all the time. A friend and I actually drove down to the small showroom to pick them up, as they were not the normal TV infomercial models and we wanted to try them out first. I actually wanted to get the even larger 24000 model but at the time I didn't have the room for such a long machine, and of course it was more expensive. Glad to say that my 11000 model works almost as good as the day I bought it!
Holy cow. I have the 1979 / 80 model of the Total Gym. I bought it off from Craigslist a few years ago and the guy said it was the original Total Gym that was used for a few decades in a Physical Therapist's office. It's huge, heavy, and all chrome. The foot platform doesn't attach like the new models do. It's a piece that you have to slide under the Total Gym frame, and the weight of the frame locks it in.
@kaybrown5637 Very nice! Was there a model name or number for that unit? Or maybe it’s on the owner’s manual, if you still have it. This is the first time I’ve heard of someone having a unit from that long ago. That’s awesome!
I used to have one many many years ago when I was younger. And then some stupid person stole it from my house. So now I'm thinking of buying it again because I used to love it so much. I used to love how it made me feel. Now that I'm older I don't feel as good as I used to. So as of today I'm making my phone call to place my order and get back what I lost. Ya for me when I get it because I'm going to have so much fun with it again just like when I was younger. I remember those clips it's something I will never forget. Stay safe and many blessings to everyone
SINCE 1974 THE YEAR I WAS BORN.💪💪YES IT WAS MADE FOR ME. AND I HAVE ( 2). ONE OF THEM ONE OF IS TOTALGYM PLATINUM PLUS. IT GIVE ME THAT NICE HUSKY CELEBRITY BODY. ABSOLUTELY ❤️LOVE IT AND MY KIDS TOO.
Questions: at about 6:55 in this video it looks like the first portable Total Gym came on the scene in 1993. It looks very much like my 11,000 model I bought brand new in 2004. What was the name of that first portable model? Was 1993 the first year of portable models or what year did they first appear? If different, then when did the 11,000 model come out? When did the 14,000 model come out? And any other info that anyone could offer would be much appreciated. Thanks!
I don't work for TG but I've been a fan for about 20+ years. I doubt TG will answer your questions because it'll bring up an ugly truth: not all units are created equally (or by the same company, at all). However, I think I can take a stab at your inquiries. From best I can tell the first folding unit came out in the early 90s and may have been a West Bend product. After the West Bend relationship expired or dissolved, TG licensed their design to a company in Pennsylvania who started making the 1000, 2000, and 3000 infomercial models. Simultaneously, EFI (the parent TG company) made the 1100 and 2200 models for home and commercial use (respectively). I believe this caused confusion at some point because EFI on their website had a disclaimer they had nothing to do with the infomercial units, and would redirect infomercial unit owners who had issues to a phone number somewhere else. My assumption is around 2000-2002, EFI did a model refresh and, probably to preserve branding since there were numerous cheap ones being produced by the licensed companies at this point, named the new units 14000 and 26000 to distinguish themselves from the XX00 licensed models being sold at WalMart, Costco, Sears, etc. These EFI models are directly descended from the 1100 and 2200 models (again, respectively). Also worth noting, many of the parts and attachments are interchangeable between the 14000 and 26000 (and for that matter, the GTS line). Personally, I started on a 1000 model and burned through 3 or 4 crappy Chinese WalMart models before I found a 14000 on craigslist in '09-10. It's the best machine I've ever owned and compared to the cheap infomercial models (including the supposed top of the line XL model), it's not even close. I'm such a believer in the 14000, today I drove 80 miles to buy a spare one for parts and accessories I didn't already own.
@@TheShiftersDC Stumbled on this and thanks for the info! I bought my '1100 Deluxe Home' model from EFI in the late 90s. I brought it out of retirement a few years ago and was really confused about the model numbers when I tried looking it up online.
Who needs any other large, space-wasting, non-storageable, unsafe, malfunctional, assembly-required, and highly expensive Multi-Gym when anyone can have Total Gym or any other sliding bench workout device?
This story is totally bull....I worked in the factory that produced the very first runs of the Total gym ..made by WEST BEND CANADA in Barrie Ontario...Steve Podborski was the first endorsment guy.. i met him at the plant

In the 1980s West Bend Company acquired Total Gym. Total Gym existed before West Bend purchased it.
