They are just like cats. We had one last year that kept coming by so when it got cold we gave her a permanent home and she was in fact just like a cat.
More like a juvenile than a baby. When they are born they are '"pinkies", about the size of a peanut, they have a lot of growing to do before they go off to explore the world on their own.
Not often, but we get various wildlife through here from time to time. We actually put the nuts out for the squirrels, but you never know what will come by to sample the goods.
Good point! We rarely feed our wild critters because we don't want them to become dependent on humans, but we had some nuts on the edge of going rancid and didn't want to waste them. So, they got a bonus this time.
I'm a weakling, especially with her, I can't resist tossing cat food out on the patio for them. Even though I know that they eat everything around the house we don't want around our houses.
It's not set in stone. Opossums will keep browsing a territory no matter what we put out. Their life is all about the travel, mating, and eating what they turn over.
Why didn't you rescue it and take it home they're better than cats they use the litter box they clean their face and hands better than cats this animal is so misunderstood it never attacks anyone or another animal it gets so scared and stressed that it literally passes out so sometimes it's not just faking dead it's really passed out the most passive animal and the best time to get one as a pet is when it's a baby.... Sorry little guy I would have took you home a minute. Oh and one other thing they don't stink like cats either just saying there's literally RUclips channel with people that have possums as pets.... It fell off its mother and Mama kept going and it couldn't keep up now it's left alone to be ate by a bigger animal good looking out....
He didn't seem in need of rescue. He didn't seem to be in any distress, not even ravenously hungry. I think maybe he was old enough to be away from Mama and testing his independence, only to return home after his walk (but I'm no possum expert, so I could be wrong). I have never taken in a possum, but my father took in a orphaned raccoon when we were kids and we kept him as a pet. We loved him, but he would get inside the back of our sofa and shred the padding out trying to make a nest. Taking in wild animals is not as easy as many people think. They still have instinctive wild animal habits that make them less than ideal house pets. Eventually, he got out and didn't come back.
@@vickieholland yes I've had many many wild animals I've had a raccoon named Jackie I've had squirrels and yes they will build a nest raccoons will build a nest so it's better to have them in a room by their self and give them like an old chair or something or a closet and let them have that space that's their room is what we tried to do with our raccoon but possums are awesome I learned most of my stuff on RUclips I had no idea that they would use a litter box but most of the time a baby Joey will fall off of its Mama's back once they get big enough and come out of the pouch I think they have up to 12 to 13 babies at a time and only carry them I think two weeks so they come out teeny tiny like the size of the baby mouse so when they get a certain size is when they start getting on Mama's back and just watching videos I see so many fall off and she don't know it she's got 8 or 10 on her back and the little one can't catch up it's just too small I watch the lady walk across the field in a video her and her boyfriend seen a possum and it was just walking through the backyard somewhere and is they approached it got slower and then they got right up on him and he just froze solid she reached down picked him up now this is a full grown possum and all he did was hiss at her... He did not want to try to bite her they get so scared and stressed out that sometimes they're not playing possum they literally pass out it's really pitiful because they're so misunderstood and then when you watch these RUclips channels where you know people are walking through the woods and they run into a baby that's been left behind they take it home and it's better than a cat it's really awesome to check out the videos check some out just go on RUclips and search pet possums I mean they are awesome I want one but I'm 58 and I don't think I'll live it I'm disabled I'm not well but I really do want a baby possum but like I said I would never take one from its mother you would have to find one that has fell off or kind of like that when this roaming around by itself and people want to kill him and shoot them and be mean to him I'm like they're just hungry they're not going to attack you the only defense they have is hissing at you and you really want to beat it and bash its brains in that's what upsets me but yeah we had a lot of different wildlife in our house I was raised with six boys so go figure I hope you made it back to his mama all we can do is hope for the best right...
That's nice that they "wash" their paws/face after eating.
They were salted nuts, so he was probably licking the salt off his little paws. I do that when I eat nuts too!
Such a sweet baby!
They are really very clean animals
scavenging animals with developed front legs like possum, rats, squirrels have that in common.
They are very clean. If they weren't I wouldn't have one sleeping the sheets with me for the last 2 years
Such a cute baby possum ! 🥰
Sooooo adorable❤❤
I just love Possums❤❤❤
Did you see this one? ruclips.net/video/KfnIkLGeLqs/видео.html
@@vickieholland no I haven't but look forward to watching 🥰
Thank you🙂
@@vickieholland She is a precious mom with her precious babies🥰🥰🥰
Very cute video..Thank you! 🙂
I love possums❤❤
Yes! Possums are good to have around.
Opossums are sadly overlooked and not appreciated
@@abcdeisthekey We have skunks nearby too. Talk about underappreciated!
@@vickieholland that's actually pretty awesome. I've never seen a skunk in real life!
@abcdeisthekey lucky you
Aww 🥰. Like a cat he washes.

Adorable animal 🖖
❤
Cute cat
Adorable
aaaa!! small and fluffy!
Yes, I think they are kind of cutel
She cute
Is that a california opossum eating the spoils from an almond tree?
No, a midwestern possum!
Worst part about this video is the person who’s filming it is breathing and whistling with their nose. 😂
May have a breathing problem. What do you expect them to do?
@@rajnikantsharma I don’t know, maybe be more aware of it and open their mouth to get air instead of whistling through their nose. Just a thought
I thought they only come out at night.
They are mostly nocturnal, but may also be active during the day--especially young possums
Aw this is awesome, looks like you see it often?
Not often, but we get various wildlife through here from time to time. We actually put the nuts out for the squirrels, but you never know what will come by to sample the goods.
Definitely not a baby lol
Not a baby but also not a full grown adult
Please don't give SALTED nuts to animals!
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
They clean themselves just like flies. Creepy.
It’s not a baby anymore. It’s a teenager.
They only live 2 years so they grow faster in years.
Think about it. 😐
If we keep feeding wild animals, they will not have much appetite left for insects.
Good point! We rarely feed our wild critters because we don't want them to become dependent on humans, but we had some nuts on the edge of going rancid and didn't want to waste them. So, they got a bonus this time.
They'll be fine bro lmao
