  • The Genesis G90 sedan has not been around for all that long, just 5 years in fact. Though it actually did exist well before that as the Hyundai Equus well before that. But no matter which nameplate it carries, the result aims for flagship status, so a new generation G90 is a very big deal. Let’s give it the attention it deserves! #GenesisG90

      As a former Hyundai owner, I completely agree. The 2 dealerships within 10mins of my house were both awful experiences after buying a new Elantra with all of the problems it had that they were eager to ignore for 3yrs of ownership. I would never step up to their luxury division with that experience under my belt. It would have to be completely separate Genesis dealerships and the cars would have to be far more reliable.

    I remember 16-17 years ago when I test drove the Hyundai Azera and liked it - but one side of me was going "$30K for a Hyundai is too much."
    A year or two later I ended up buying a $40K Hyundai - the original Genesis Sedan - which I still drive today and absolutely love. Comfortable AND indestructible (well over 300K miles on the odometer)! Outlasted more than a few Lexuses on the way.
    Now one side of me still thinks six figures is too much for a Hyundai product, even if it's Genesis. And the G90 is NOT the kind of car I am interested in. But I might surprise myself again! (Though my Genesis of choice will forever be the G80.)

    • @iSOBigD
      @iSOBigD Год назад +2

      I thought the same and loved my gen 1.5 Genesis Sedan until the day I sold it...but everything in the G90 was a step up, especially on the inside. Absolutely everything I wished would have been better in the Genesis Sedan was fixed, from the clock to the buttons, to all seats having ventilation and memory, to metal speaker grills...Basically any place I thought "hmm, this could be better" they made it better. Two things are a step down (from the 2012 model, not your model): the front door pockets don't expand anymore, they're fixed, and the V8 has 420 hp instead of 429 (I think yours is around 385?). Honestly it's just an amazing car and I felt just as good about it as when I first got the Genesis Sedan, so it's a very worthwhile upgrade when the time comes (bought used).

    • @AllyMcLesbian
      @AllyMcLesbian Год назад +1

      @@iSOBigD Mine is a 2009 with the 3.8 engine. "Only" 290 hp but still more than anything I had ever dealt with; also the Lambda V6 was a common reliable engine (found in the Azera, the Kia Sedona, etc.) and I wanted the reliability. And yes, I do agree that expanding front door pockets are a nice touch!
      I do agree that the current Genesis models are a very nice upgrade in almost every way (I will always complain about the red turn signals, however, they ought to be banned). A modest G70 may be the right car for me as it stands, though as I stated earlier, the G80 will forever be my favorite Genesis (and a midgrade 4-cylinder model will be very comparable to my 2009).

    Engine reliability make me lease this. Otherwise, wow details galore on this ride. Though, I get allot less bulk from the models just from the left of this in the catalog. These cars are high on my lease it category. Keep it for 2 or 3 years, and get the next one. The Hyundai group will not stand still. The only worry would be long term reliability, and when all those features start to break, it won't be so luxurious. High mileage Benz's and BMWs are suspect too. But oh my how far the Hyundai group has come. Not too many years ago, a laughing stock. Now no one is laughing, and if the reliability becomes more certain, could displace allot of rides for best for money once, and for all. The G70, and G80 to me is all the car I need. Or want.

Or the A8 with hard plastic and piano black all over? Or the 7 series that looks almost the same as a 3 series but with an optional huge screen that displays videos on just a third of it in the middle of the car so you can't look at it head on? I love competition but the G80 and G90 really have none because at their fully optioned price you're barely touching the base model from the competition.

    • @MercOne
      @MercOne Год назад

      @@iSOBigD You seem to be under the impression that buyers in this class are pinching pennies. They aren't. They're buying the best car. There is a reason why that S-Class outsells this car terribly at a much higher price. While you're talking about plastic on doors while it lacks a V8 or a even V6 that can deliver the same performance efficiency as the other I6s in the class. Looks are personal. The engineering is not, and the G90's isn't totally there yet. Uh...leather doesn't make a luxury car and it is standard in an S-Class. In not a single comparison yet has the G90 prevailed over the S-Class. Get your eyes checked if you think the 7-Series looks like the 3-Series. Like serious question, have you just not seen the new 7? If think the G80 and G90 have no competition because they're cheaper you're delusional because NEITHER of them sell in any real numbers. How can a car that is a so called bargain get outsold so badly have no competition? They should be selling much better than they are. Think about what you're saying here. You gotta get out of this thinking that luxury cars are just about features for money. They aren't. It's how the entire package comes together. Genesis makes some really nice cars for sure, but they aren't superior to the German competition at this G90 level. It doesn't even fully match them once you take away the features for the money aspect. Any car can have leather.

    Hi, I own a G90. First, I love the car. I had a BMW 740 and the G90 is, pound for pound just as nice if not better. Before you purchase a G90, call the service dept and ask for service. Then, ask for a loaner car and/or valet pickup. In the Atlanta area, the 3 dealers I've dealt with, to get oil changes, any type of service, there is no loaner car, no valet and it'll take 1-2 months to get service. So, let's say your car overheats. You'll not be able to drive it or go without your car till service can be done. I've even called the 800 Genesis Connected Service number to complain and see if something could be done. Guess what ... they spoke a good tune just like the dealership but they haven't done ANYTHING. If I wanted to be ignored or make to feel insignificant I could have just stayed with my BMW and their overpriced service dept. Speaking of overpriced, the 5000 mile oil change at the dealership was $180. For an oil change !!!! Again, I might as well go back to BMW. Do the research and know that you've been warned. Happy driving.

    There are no more large American cars. The LS is old af and the current generation was relatively small at launch. First let me be clear, I am not a professional car reviewer, but only a car collector who is excellent at knowing value and how to make money!
    I happen to own a 2021 G90 5.0 24k miles and I use it several times a week locally. Also, I just took delivery of a new 2024 G90 e supercharged Makalu Gray with white interior. This is now my wife's daily driver. Of course she gets the new one just because I like her. Plus we are married 39 years with seven adult children and 5 grandchildren. So she deserves it.
    WARNING BEFORE YOU CONTINUE READING and you are a Genesis basher, or a S Class or 7 Series koolaid drinker no need to read on. Only trying to assist some one seriously considering purchasing a G90 for the first time.
    Firstly, may I disclose that I did not buy them to try and impress people. Buying to show off Badging is for those who have an inferior complex. I didn’t buy them for speed. I simply bought them for comfortability at a great value. Unless you own one its impossible to have a valued assessment. An opinion of course, as everyone is entitled to one.
    I laugh when I read the comments regarding it's not fast enough. The car is not designed to be a super car. Let's be for real as it's a $101k luxury car, yes luxury car. It may be at the lower tier of luxury cars, but still is one in my opinion.
    I am fortunate to have purchased so many cars I have lost count. Not bad for a Non-High School grad and homeless at 17. I didn’t let that hold me back.
    I am so fortunate to now own several exotic cars, which is still hard to believe when I am driving them. To go from 0-60 in under 3 seconds is an amazing experience. When we track them (Yes my wife included) its simply exhilarating to say the least!
    I've had one S Class 2020 560 AWD 463 hp/516 lbs torque with about every upgrade available. It was in no question a beautiful car. It is an amazing and all about luxury. So its 4 years older then the 2024 G90, but cost 32k more out the door.
    For me the 2024 G90 is as good as the 2020 S 560. To be fair the 2024 G90 is 4 years newer than the 2020 S560 which was loaded. It was also $138k.
    We are more then pleased with the G 90's. We have had an excellent experience with them. We buy them out of state and they are delivered to us directly. The Genesis dealership we deal with is in Danbury Connecticut. They are a first class operation great to deal with.
    Honestly, not that we care but we get more looks/comments in the G 90's than the S Class ever got. Many times people ask if its a Bentley, and I always say its actually a Korean Bentley!
    Again, this is solely my opinion as it cost me alot of money to form it!

When I worked at vw, the turbo cars always shot out black smoke when revving. It's not a reliability issue at all. Certainly not oil burning.

      @foxtrot685 Год назад +5

      That’s actually not true they’ve called out several attributes of cars that are bad and have said cars are not their manufacturers best effort. The difference is, MotorWeek remains OBJECTIVE of the whole car and don’t slam the whole vehicle for one or two other issues that don’t work well. Very few cars are fundamentally flawed to where they’re an awfully bad product as a whole, I think if you’re honest with yourself even you can admit that. Most just have one, two, or three things that need to be improved like a drivetrain that needs more power, suspension tuning, interior ergonomics, infotainment, and MotorWeek does call that out when it’s not good.

    • @MercOne
      @MercOne Год назад

      It's rare, but you're right. They are hard pressed to say something bad about a car and they've reviews more junk from GM, Ford and Chrysler than anyone over the last 40+ years. It's always a gloss over with BS about American spirit and wishful delusions about most American cars up until a few years ago when the cars actually got better.

    • @MercOne
      @MercOne Год назад

      @@foxtrot685 That would hold up if the entire car wasn't junk that they were talking about. All the cars they reviewed back in the 80's and 90's from American makes were junk and they praised them and/or made excuses for them just the same. You are right, very few cars today are so flawed to where they are awful product all the way around, but there are exceptions. There is nothing good to be said about a product like a Ford EcoSport and Wranglers and Broncos are fun as hell, but they're build is utter crap. MotorWeek just isn't that deep. The things you list can ruin a car depending on the function intended. If a sports sedan needs more power or better suspension tuning, that is a fundamentally flawed product as those are the things a sports sedan should excel at. So you're only partially right here.

    I’m seeing a lot of comments comparing the G90 to the original Lexus LS400 from 1990. I recognize the similar praise but what’s not being said was how by 1990, Toyota was already synonymous with reliability, so one of the major selling points of the LS400 was the expectation that it wouldn’t spend half its life in the shop like all of its German competition. Meanwhile, anyone who knows anything about current cars knows that Hyundai’s drivetrains have been turbocharged dumpster fires for the past decade. Granted, Hyundai/Genesis would have to go out of its way to be as unreliable as current BMW/Benz/Audi/Volvo/JLR products but those brands sell their cars with long standing heritage luxury brand images and Lexus sells its cars on a brand image of being better built and more reliable than the others and backs it up with 30 years of almost flawless reliability and product longevity. Genesis however, has no luxury brand image and is born from a brand only known for dubious quality and discount pricing. Who is the G90 buyer in 2023? Tech money buys a Tesla, smart money buys a Land Cruiser/Lexus, stupid money buys a Benz/BMW/Audi/JLR, safety conscious stupid money buys a Volvo/Tesla and value conscious smarter money buys a CPO Lexus and stupid, fake it till you make it money buys a CPO Cadillac or a CPO model from the Eurotrash brands listed above.
    The only way I see Genesis pulling this off successfully is for them to go electric sooner than the others while maintaining focus on the G90’s traditional luxury, as BMW and Benz are thoroughly screwing up with their current takes on electric luxury cars. Genesis needs to make a Tesla with a JLR interior to truly stand out.
