Best of British Steam: Steaming through Summer 2020

Best of British Steam - Volume 4
Despite a global pandemic, this years' Summer saw a variety of locomotives, from a number of designers, taking to the rails at preserved railways all across the UK - and on the Mainline. From Fowler to Riddles, Churchward and Wainwright to Bulleid and Hawksworth, Summer has brought out some of the best that British Steam has to offer.
Filmed at 10 different preserved railways and heritage centres, and on the Mainline, this video features over 20 locomotives; demonstrating the variety and diversity of the steam locomotives that have survived into preservation in Britain. As well as this, the video showcases the countless hours devoted by volunteers across the country, to keep the memory of steam alive in Britain for the future generations to enjoy.
With this rendition, given the global situation and the silence that echoed across the preservation movement as heritage railways around the UK were unable to run public services, a broader perspective has been taken with the final cut: including locomotives static on shed, on display, and even one example under overhaul - to better represent the wider preservation movement.

22:04 seeing that kid with who was presumably his grandad brought a tear to my eye, makes me remember mine who let me read all his old books about trains and took me to model railway conventions, he gave me my love of trains. Thanks grandad ill always be grateful, rest easy.

Even though I am an American, I love to watch British steam locomotives. Whether it is a film from 1946, or a new video from 2020, British steam fascinates me

I bloody LOVE the sound of a steam loco working hard. It makes all my hairs stand on end. I can only imagine what the long lost drivers of these living animals would make of it. I would imagine they think we are mad but would be humbled at our love of steam. They would understand though. Just excellent machines.

Very neat. Every now and then I like to watch foreign steam. I’ll just say it’s a very cool to see the variety of british steam. It’s a hole lot different than steam over here in the U.S.A
