I feel like the reason this song has held on so long, and why it has such strong emotion tied to it, is because it gives the feeling that even the most seemingly insignificant person can have their absence deeply felt by people around them. Even just a street-seller that you hear shouting every day can leave a noticeable gap in your life when they're gone.

hey Patty, this is a brilliant cover of our famous Irish girl. 25 years ago (you might not even have been born then.) my father was manager of a small recording company, based here in Dublin. they dealt with traditional folk music and I'm sure they would have snapped you up then. after the company closed, my father retired, and a few years back was diagnosed with Lewy body's dementia. when I last seen him he didn't remember who I was but could remember the song I played for him, (over the hills and far away.) which was one of your songs. I was planning to play this for when I got to see him next, but a month after this video he sadly lost his fight for life, due to this covid and his condition. however, when I listen to your songs, I can still see that enjoyment in his face and it lets me know that he is now free from his pains and still watching over our family. so a big thank you from me to you. keep singing and bringing joy to all.

@@insultigknightuscantstands4648 I agree that the Medieval period did have its advantages... unfortunately I’m afraid those advantages were more enjoyed by a king or a knight. The disadvantages, such as lack of indoor plumbing, little medical knowledge and advanced medical equipment, and the fact that you were fighting for survival as a peasant vs a king or queen who basically lived in luxury at the expense of others (usually)... those far outweigh the advantages and make me glad to have grown up in today’s century.
I will definitely agree that the times we live in now have thrown commitment out the window. It’s definitely a lot harder to find someone you can spend your life with.

Ok folks! Listen-up! I am considered to be Afro-American in my present incarnation. But I am also part Irish via my grandmother!!(Who would have imagined it?).So people they now say that the Afro-Americans have a monopoly over "Soul Music" right??? Well folks...don't let them fool ya!! When you hear these beautiful traditional Irish tunes you"ll soon learn that Irish people had a monopoly over real soul music.!!!! You can hear it just by listening to this Traditional Irish Tune. This is real SOULFUL music straight from the inner chambers of your lovin heart..And it it so beautifully rendered in this tune and its performance. If this doesn't bring up some water vapor in your eyes...then you must be a dead soul!!!I am glad to be Afro-American,but also VERY PROUD and very Happy to be part Irish to!! So when I go to the St. Patrick's day parade,I wear the button on my shirt that says"Kiss Me...I'M Black Irish"!! So this song brings me back to my roots on my Irish half... and so proud to be too!!!!ALIVE Oh ALIVE OH!!!! Move over Motown!!!

A fitting, melancholy tribute to the countless Molly Malones who actually made their living this way over the centuries.

Just MAGIC. My real training at sword fighting (medieval combat sports) became more efficient. Meditation is crucial and this music helps a lot. Thank you for so beautiful pieces of art.

    Amazing as always!
It's also funny how this song instills a feeling of nostalgia in me.
I'm not irish at all, but when I was a tween my dad played the cripple of inishmore with his theatre group. All the actors would learn Irish folk songs and sing them between the scenes. And when my dad brought me to school every morning he'd sing those songs to practice and I would often sing along.
I'm now living with my partner and I don't see my dad a lot anymore, but I suddenly really miss those moments with him in the car!
Thank you for making me relive them for a while
