I don't know, i prefer the tractor beam on the taurus to be on the front. That ship is going to face a lot of combat bounties and when you are going to retrieve the goods from the defeated ships it's better to face your ship towards the enemy ship and then start the "transfer", it's more confortable than having to go backwards.

CIG really hit the right spot for me with the Zeus. I wanted something bigger than a Cutlass or Freelancer but smaller than a large ship. The 400i always felt too luxurious while the Corsair looks on the inside like a cargo ship from today. The C1 seemed to be the answer until I saw the Zeus Mk2.

Assuming the Constellation series doesn't get a much needed rework, the CL is sadly a more attractive option for pure cargo running. However, the Taurus is still more flexible allowing you to haul a larger variety of cargo.

The Zeus ships are really showing how outdated most other ships are because they were designed and built after an overall reconcept of how ships work, which is why they have so many shields.
I think it really shows just how outdated the constellation series is. I don't think they'll get a gold pass, I think they'll get a rework and grow in size. Freelancers are the same, they almost need to start with the max as the base model.

The Taurus is almost like having a concept ship that is playable, since we all know it will have a considerable rework. The Freelancer/Starfarer are in the same situation. I will hold on to mine to see what happens, since RSI ships are getting a team to work on the line of ships from the Polaris on down. Just think, what if the Connies get a total rework as MKII's, with the now triangular shape design of the RSI brand. I hope so.

I've said this before, the Taurus is the logical progression from the Cutty Black. Cost wise, in game and RL, and function wise. It's a great hauler, but it's also a Jack of All Trades.
Currently, when starting out with just a Taurus and 0 credits, you can start doing Delivery, Mercenary, or Bounty missions. Remove Illegal Monitors start out at 20k. And you can chain them. Those 4 size 4 laser repeaters shred those ships with easy. Or mostly. Get up some cash and do transport. 174 SCU can make a decent profit, but you need seed capitol.
I would love to have a Zeus ES for exploration when it comes in, but not sure that is ever making it in the game. I would probably jump on the CL if I didn't have a Taurus already, but I do, so I won't.

The Taurus rear shielded cargo hold is for those times you want to smuggle illegal things. It is not that big and later the doors will be able to stay open using door switches. I don't see this as a big deal as a hand held tractor will work for those smaller boxes. The Taurus is almost like having a concept ship that is playable, since we all know it will have a considerable rework. The Freelancer/Starfarer are in the same situation. The Taurus does not have four size five weapons.
it has two size five fixed and 2 size 2 gimbal 4 are 4 size 4 gimbal .
it has one size three shield not size 2.
and if you check the wingspan of the Zeus.
it will not be able to go into a medium hanger unless the tips of the wing can fold.
so that means it will have to go into a hangar one size bigger.
I got this information from the horses mouth.
and the shielded cargo is not really intended for for standard cargo units but the next size down.
and the tractor beam is in the front for a reason because of the structure of the ship.
and the Zeus will be faster in atmosphere because it will be lighter. and it can regen hydrogen and it will be more agile than any of the constellation.

One thing that i'm not entirely sure about, is the Zeus MK II CL's underside turret. One would think that the copilot uses that. However, one thing to note is that the C1 Spirit also has a turret, like right under the nose of the ship, it looks like a remote turret, it looks like it can swivel around 360 degrees, but the copilot can't use it and it slaved to the pilot.
So its making me think that the turret could also be like that, slaved to the pilot controls and actually have an adittional 2x S3 guns to bare, along with your 2x S4 guns. Then if the copilot wanted too, he can take control of it.
Idk, the fact that the C1 Spirit Turret is usable by the pilot made me think the CL might be the same case.

If you paid $150 with new money, I would recommend contacting support to ask for a refund (you have 30 days to ask for a refund), and instead buy the warbond version while it is still available. Long term, you may be able to get the ship (or another ship) for less by chaining warbond CCUs to stack the discounts of multiple ships. That is a bit complicated for me to explain here, but search “star citizen ccu game” and you should find info on that. If you bought the Zeus CL as a CCU from another ship, there is currently no way to get it for less than $150 unless you are CCU’ing from another ship that you managed to get discounts on - again google “ccu game” for info on how to do that.

I'll admit to a little bias, the Taurus is one of my favorite ships. Imo, the CL is inferior in every way except 3.....looks, ease of landing and that it doesn't have to deal with janky lift mechanics when being manually loaded (ramps ftw). I prefer the tractor location on the taurus because I can drive right up to the thing I am looting and use it to fully load my cargo grid (other than the 6 or so SCU of shielded cargo). The Tractor turret has clear LoS all the way to the back of the lift. Based on the illustrations, not even sure the CL can tractor things fully to the back of its cargo bay. One last little bit, CIG said that a drawback of the CL would be if it was fully loaded it would block some component access. Connie doesn't have that issue.
That's not to mention the difference in HP and firepower. The CL is a more dedicated cargo ship specifically because it is a less capable ship overall. Then again, the Taurus should be more capable, its more expensive to get. Its not the Taurus the CL might replace in my fleet, but it might replace my MSR :)

You compare the 174SCU of the Connie to the 128SCU of the CL, saying that sadly it’s not all available. YES it is, 174SCU is only the cargo grid of the cargo elevator. It doesn’t take the shielded cargo into account

  • @paratrooperz1

first is first these 2 ships are in 2 different classes if i remember correctly connie is large and zeus is medium so they dont or shouldnt compare. the zeus is in same class as freelancer, 400, cutlass and spirit. these are ships that should head to head.
where its easy to make that mistake is the connie is the smallest large ship and the zeus is the largest medium.
    next all connies have 2 S4 and 2 S5
well its to soon to compare a flyable with a non flyable but im not sure whats wrong with your connie experience but my connies never die loading or unloading. but i will say it takes more concentration to load gear into a connie than most other ships because the connie i sometimes toss a box at its cargo grid and it passes through as when i toss a box at most other ships when it crosses the door it enters a gravity well. so you can be a little less purposeful with most ship and just launch a box at the door and hope it flies in.
1 last fun fact in space power to weight ratio means nothing really because if i make a big engine where the plasma particals generate energy for example 5 miles per hour and i make a small engine that generate at 5 miles per hour and i put either engine on 1 million tons or on 500 pounds the hull will travel at 5 miles per hour in space regardless of size of hull or engine. where it does matter is generating momentum is the factor! as the more mass of hull you have the longer it takes to reach 5 miles per hour. also if the engine is larger it may be able to produce more propulsion surface area so this can also get you to 5 miles per hour faster. size of engine or hull has no impact on speed that is in the plasma particle speed generation.

Out of atmo the Taurus should be faster and more maneuverable due to the vectoring thrust of the main engines, even in atmo it should have better pitch and yaw but maybe not roll since the cl probably has stronger control surfaces due to the wingspan, Zeus might be faster in atmo due to less drag the Connie is kind of fat.

Connie has an insane level of firepower and a s3 shield, but it handles like a boat and the engine necells tend to explode off the ship in combat which is not great. The Zeus is a size down (more warp point access) has great cargo storage for a ship it's size, probably handles a lot better and all weapon sizes vs the Connie are reduced by one size / pilot only has access to 2 s4 hard points (turret separate). Honestly, I'm super excited for the Zeus variants.

With the development of new ships, the design flaws in earlier models are beginning to show and we'll likely see a reworked and certainly a rebalance once all the ship mechanics are finally completed. The mismatch on these two isn't too bad. The Connie still has some major benefits, the zeus CL certainly caters for a more elusive/defensive approach ... owners of each won't be disappointed. It's all good, it's a cool comparison, but comparing the Zeus to the Connie is literally like comparing the the Freelancer base to the Freelancer MAX... Food for thought.
Again, cool comparison and tbh I'd like to see an Aquila vs the Zeus ES too. I just want watchers to know that the Connies are a tier over the Zeus variants. Not next to them and definitely not under.
What I'd love to see is the Freelancer Max being reworked to a point where it competes with the Taurus. That ship could earn at least another 25 scu if they rework it nice, and more if they give it a bit of a size increase but not too crazy. I'd love to see my big ugly bertha get back on the map along with the Taurus.

Mk2 has 4 main thrusters. I think you said 2 main thrusters. I would assume the MK will be half the weight of the Connie, The arrow dynamic of the MK2 should make it more manurable in ATMO. but it is all speculations.

The Connie eventually will be the best ship after a rework. By then everyone would have sold one, then there will be a mass buy lol. Im a Zeus fan, even though it doesn't have the fire power.

Connie has better firepower and shields if you care about that. Zeus will fly better though. Connie could also use a rework at some point. We won't know how they stack up for a year or so at least. Plenty can happen till then!

I don't think there's much of a comparison, the Taurus is much larger, more cargo, much more firepower. If money is not the issue I'd just skip the Zeus CL altogether, and they are not that diferent in pricing - unless you want those sweet sweet looks. While the Zeus sound great, I feel at this moment when you can warbond the C1 for USD 110 (including CCP) it's kinda in a limbo of cost-benefit between it and the Taurus. If anything the Taurus is too much of a good deal to allow other USD 150+ general purpose/cargo ships to be enticing.
Where I think the cost benefit is in favor of the Zeus is the ES variant - a USD 150 ship x a USD 315 (connie Aquila) makes a LOT more sense even if the lower stats, and the fact that the Freelancer DUR is USD 135 makes it sound on the cheap side (yeah, ignoring how ridiculous saying that about over 2 AAA full game price for a digital ship).
Or course, in case interdiction becomes a great mechanic the MR may become a great option too, and it has the best looks of all 3 - but until it is correctly implemented cargo space is what matters, and that's why I upgraded my MR I got for impulse (with a LTI pack) into a Taurus some days ago.

The reason I don't fly the connies is that the interior sucks and needs an update badly. Also, the gun mounts are locked at size 4 due to the pucks.

Fleetyardsnet seems to be not up to date at all!
Connie has 1 size 3 shield and if that stays like that, there is no real competition between these two ships. The Zeus is more of a competitor to the Freelancer Max (poor Freelancer).
Please do some more research for these kind of videos, the difference between size 2 and 3 shields is so huge right now, it can easily change the whole conversation.

People need to be careful talking about 4 x size 5 mounts as the last time I checked, you can’t fit size 5’s to the bottom two mounts on the Constellations as it obstructs the landing gear, still having two is better than none, but two isn’t four. Can you also clarify where you believe the tractor beam is located on the Taurus? It looked like you were pointing to the wrong place

Why compare the Zeus mkii cl against the Constellation Taurus?
It should be compared to the freelancer max as an direct comparison.
The Zeus series compete with the Spirit, Freelancer and Cutlass.
The Constellation series competes with the 400i and the MSR.
    Compare with like.

Railen concept is about 300 SCU according to existing stats. It's a $225 pledge, so its $35 more than the Taurus for about double the SCU.

The Connie currently has 1 S3 shield because it is suppose to be heavily armored. When that system comes online it should switch to 2 x S2 shields but will have thick thick armor to get through before you damage anything so it should be a more durable ship in the future.
I do agree that the shielded area should be easier to get to though. If they took the snub then that should be converted to a smaller drop down cargo floor so you can get to it from the outside.

Taurus and zeus cl are only somewhat similar in cargo space, everything else is very different. Thats because of their respective roles and thats fine. To me, the most important distinction/summary is:
taurus is buffer and more about cargo/combat, but ugly! and the cargolift is hmpf.
The zeus is beautiful and the ramp more convenient for vehicle gameplay and daily driver.

    The zeus is not intended to ve compared to the connie series;
The connie has way more health, is 50% bigger, large pilot guns, and much larger cargo when compared to the zeus contemporaries.
You SHOULD be comparing it to the freelancers, cutties, and spirit's, its intended competition.

The connie is pretty outdated and will obviously get a once over, but its got twice the shields more than double the dps, holds more cargo, and has the lill sneaky cargo. The tractor beam is probably one of the best placed in game and can function perfectly with the same crew as the CL.
Personally I think the Zeus is a cooler ship but on paper the Taurus takes almost every catagory.

@@kon-lun-os-kuh-pee571 Yes, another example of the Connie being an old design with quick-fix compromises. Where to put the tractor beam? Meh, stick it in the manned turret (same with the scanner on the Aquila). Not enough ground clearance for the S5 guns it was originally intended to have? Force them to be a size smaller. The Connie has been the ship I've wanted to love since 2013 but it it's always had design issues because it was designed by a guy who does TV space ships before CIG had any real idea what they were doing in terms of ship metrics and practical in-game functionality.

Engines is reason I hate the MSR. I can't look at that backside with those small engines while Ares and Spirit have this amazing ratio between engines and ship size.
I also might say goodbye to connie. I dislike the min crew size of 3. If thats based on engineering it's a pain to solo fly it probably when engineering arrives.

  • @CatalystDestiny
    @CatalystDestiny 8 месяцев назад

The Zeus isn't a competitor to the Taurus right now because it's severely undergunned for the crew req, carries less/smaller, less durability, less utility. If the Zeus wasn't so severely undergunned for its size and crew and is never a "better" option than other ships + an escort. When the Connies get their full rework and improve even further, this gap will widen even further. The Zeus desperately needs a firepower jump up, right now it's toothless and will just be a very easy mark for pirates.

  • @crazyeyecarl

The Connie, and the Corsair fly like frozen turds shot out of a potato gun. It's why I went MSR. I bet the Zeus will fall somewhere between those ships in terms of handling which wouldn't be terrible. Keeping the MSR.

Bigger ships with more mass should be slower. Aero Dynamic smaller ships should be faster and more maneuverable. Just because a 16 wheeler has a bigger engine vs a Pickup Truck doesn't mean it will go faster. Sorry but the Zeus should be faster then the Taurus being the Taurus has way more guns then the Zeus. So it means a Taurus would just chase down and Kill Zeus all the time.
