@@LukeBridger No, it sounds better with distinct breaks between words. Which is fine, I was just saying that it does not sound the same live. Still very good, but not quite as.
Well they have some basic reverb on their voices and for studio versions they do layer their voices more than once. So some effect but very little. It’s why the studio versions still sound a bit “bigger” than the lives
This was their first Grammy. Since it's Christmas time, take a look at their second Grammy "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy," an all instrumental piece performed without instruments. They don't do a bad cover of anything and they have some outstanding originals. Since you mentioned other a Capella groups, Home Free and VoicePlay are most likely the ones suggested to you -both outstanding depending on what you like. All cover any genre but are set apart by what they are known for - PTX is more Pop oriented, Home Free more Country, Voiceplay is more into showtune (Disney mostly) medleys and theatrics and all have fantastic bass singers and beatboxers.
PTX always leaves you wanting more. Great reaction. To see a different side of them and with an instrument, check out “say something”. Kirstie takes the lead and it’s utterly heartbreaking. Sooo good
The arrangement itself got a grammy. They get a lot of help from Ben Bram to tune up the arrangements. But it was largely Kevin and Avi that came up with the song design, being mad Daft Punk fans.
This is a mashup of seven Daft Punk songs: Technologic, One More Time, Get Lucky, Digital Love, Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, Television Rules The Nation and Around The World.
The Sing-Off Season 3, which they won, they first did the record skip in Video Killed the Radio Star. This show was their first time performing together and showed hints of what they would be. The five came together 2 days before the audition.
$400 + Insane imagination =. Grammy. You are great. Thank you. Have you heard their new cover? The Prayer 🙏🏼 On their new Christmas Album. Evergreen. So this song was originally done by Celine Dion and Andre Botticelli and a full orchestra They do it with 5 and no instruments and it’s so amazingly beautiful. Epic. Another. Christmas Song they flip on its ear is “ O Come All ye Faithful” I mean when was the last time you wanted to Dance to O Come all Ye Faithful? 😅
It's real. Won them a Grammy! They're not playin'. This cost them $400 and was filmed in a closet. Check out "The Guide To Pentatonix" video, too. Tons of illuminating information.
I forgot to say, check out "Daft Punk Private Performance", that will answer every question well almost every question in this reaction, plus a couple you didn't ask.But you will still wonder "How".
New subscriber - yes please - more Pentatonix! My favorite of their Christmas songs is O Come All Ye Faithful - it is an AMAZING take on it. A new spin for sure!
You mentioned how the orchestration is so impressive. You were hearing the work of their sixth member, Ben Bram, who never sings - but he conjures up the arrangements. His name was also in the list for their first Grammy award. Ben collaborates with the rest of the group.
This is all them! They actually recorded the whole vid in one of their apartments, literally everything in total was less than $700. Kicker? It won them their first Grammy! "Yo, that's it?" I feel ya so much. Feel ya so much. They make you want more of them. That is why we are called Pentaholics
You might also like their cover of “Gold” - the official video is live and theres a spot where they do a timing thing similar to what you mentioned in this video, it’s really cool
that's why they won a Grammy. lol. The fact you had less to say than to say, purely out of not knowing where to start apart from the genuine shock and being speechless meant less was more. MUCH more. nice reaction.
Pentatonix won the Grammy Award for Best Music Video for which was accepted by Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoenig. Avi is the bass singer and could go extremely low. Mitch Grassi is the tenor with Kirsten being the alto. Kevin is the beat boxer
Yes they can make themselves scratch & skip, & while the studio recording has a bit of reverb to add to that electronic sound it really isn't much! They sound nearly identical live & with no mics to add effects. I saw that someone in the comments provided a link to an often recommended video of them doing the Daft Punk medley off-mic live at a private performance (a fan meeting before a concert, so they are just in a dressing room). You won't regret checking it out.
Live performance ruclips.net/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/видео.html it really is all them, no tricks, total shock and awe! More PTX please! Throw in some Superfruit, too!!!
Just so you know what Superfruit is, it's the tall blond baritone and the high-pitched tenor guy doing really funny, awesome stuff, sometimes with guests and sometimes with bloopers.
Anything that can make a smile on ones face that can't be erased is worth it!! EVERYONE who does reaction to Pentatonix has the same reaction. Blown away! They can't believe what they are listening to!
Kevin = Beatboxer extraordinaire, Celloboxer (plays cello and beatboxes together - you should check out his RUclips as well!) Scott = Tall blonde - Tenor with 5 octave range Mitch = Countertenor with 6+ octave range Kristen = The only female, not certain of range but she can sing anything Avi = Classically trained Basso Profundo, reaches notes that are almost sub-vocal, also an artist that can produce overtone notes, i.e. the singing that has a deep constant bass hum with a high-pitched whistling overnote that is the actual melody of the song. His live version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" done in overtone is amazing to listen to. Group originally started with Mitch, Scott and Kristen in high school, doing acapella. They first posted on RUclips under the group name "The Trio". When they wanted to do the show The Sing Off, they needed to be a group of 5 to qualify, so they recruited Avi and Kevin to be their extra 2 members and became Pentatonix. They were the first group I've ever seen that do acepella and are able to vocally imitate the 'disc scratch' that is used in music when a DJ plays with the record. They did this for the first time in one of their The Sing Off performances, and then you can also see it in this Daft Punk medley (no special effects, just their voices). Been a fan for years, and they have never once disappointed. I would suggest doing a reaction to the official video of their version of Imogen Heap's "Aha", and then react to their live version recorded in Singapore to really see Mitch go off onstage. Apologies for the essay, but they are an amazingly talented group of people that I love watching other people fall in love with!

Considering that the legend of the Phoenix is that of a bird rising from the ashes of its self-immolated predecessor, yeah, Scott’s ears are red as he sings about it. (In their Amazing Grace video, look closely at Mitch’s jacket!) Love your reactions, and have done what I can to help get you to 75K subs by joining the Lyons den. As it were and so to speak.
False, they have added small effects such as a little bit of reverb. Very minor though, but you can still hear it a little. It's impossible to get that effect without adding it in, unless they did a lot of layering and editing.
1st of 3 Grammy's, and this years "The Prayer" should get another, it is a masterpiece. Talent is crazy in this band. love the reaction subbed! LOL never noticed the ear thing! PTX how to win a Grammy for 400 dollars using a ring light and closet at one of their houses. LOL Crazy!!

This magical performance won them their first Grammy and has been duplicated almost identically live in a studio performance. You are now clearly going down the rabbit hole with PTX and I am counting on that! Only about 180 more performances to do!
Amazing reaction! If you want to see how absolutely amazing they sound live watch Pentatonix Aha! Live in Singapore. Just a quick notice Kevin (the beat boxer) is backstage bringing his Cello away, but still doing his thing, just so you don't wonder. It's an amazing show you should watch it :)
Just how you hear it here or any of their videos is exactly how they sound live. They don’t do it if they can’t sing it the same live. I went to one of their concerts. Amazing. Mind blown
Hey! I discovered your channel through you Blackpink reaction.. you were so clueless in there and said you don't really understand what they are singing. That's when i realized you didn't realize it's in Hangul(korean language). So I assumed you are not really into Kpop. I went into your channel and found that you also react to some Filipino artists (im from Philippines btw) and to Pentatonix (my OG favorite singers). I am so happy to discover you. It's so rare to find a someone who reacts to BP, Fil artists and Pentatonix. This is really a rare mix. My heart is so full. Thank you for appreciating my favorite people!
There is a GREEN ROOM AUDITION OF THEM TRYING OUT FOR A SINGING SHOW with just judges at a table and them standing in front of it singing this exact song for them sounds the same as the video, a must watch so you will see for yourself there are no instruments at all.
As one of your other subs said this was made for $400 at Mitch’s home. Some shots were actually in one of his closets. Unbelievable talent. I’ve seen this literally hundreds of times and still get blown away. There are other great groups out there like Home Free ( you have to watch their O Holy Night) but PTX is simply the best. Thanks for posting this!
"The Prayer" is from their newest album and, in my opinion, is right up there with "Hallelujah" in being their best. If you want to get into the Christmas spirit try "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen".
You need to do some of Avi’s solo work. Change on the Rise is amazing. (Warning: You will be tempted to go pillage a neighboring village by the end.) For an original song of Pentatonix, I recommend Sing. Really fun. Plus, Mary Did You Know, Imagine, Amazing Grace, Hallelujah, and The Prayer.
Loved your speechlessness. That’s what Pentatonix will do to you. Always expect the unexpected 🤗 Great reaction. Please more PTX They have tons of Christmas songs out. Please “Mary Did You Know” “The Prayer” There are too many to choose from 💕
No sound effects. This is 100% their natural voice. They've done this live.
The cutting between each singers lyrics isn't quite as smooth, though.
@@Lodorn well yeah it's a music video it's meant to be more aesthetic than practical to watch

This is actually done in the Pentatonix studio in Connecticut.
Its all them, the studio the hired to do this cancelled last mins, so this was done in a closet in Kevin and Avi apartment, they won a grammy for this
On a budget of 400 bucks! Costumes, blue contacts etc. The blue was tribute to Daft Punk! Keven couldn't wear the contacts so they got the glasses.
They won a music award for this Daft Punk vid, they now have a Star on the walk of Fame
❣ ***THERE ARE LITERALLY NO WORDS IN MY ENGLISH VOCABULARY, THAT CAN DESCRIBE THIS GROUP!!!*** ❣
There is a private performance for this. No mics, no costumes for Make a Wish. You can see the raw talent.
Truth.

so great , loved it
Scott, Kirstin, and Mitch have sung together since High School. That, I'm sure, helps a lot. They know each other's voices and abilities very well.

And Voctave.
One of the better reactions I’ve seen. The look of bafflement, disbelief on your face and your inability to speak says it all…who needs words.
No post production effects. They actually sing those pitch bends. There’s a video of them singing it backstage even without mics.

FYI, it was originally done by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. Andrea is a very famous Italian classical singer.
O come All Ye Faithful is probably my favorite Christmas carol by PTX they turned a staid classic into an African Spiritual....!
Another gorgeous Christmas song they cover - sorry; upgrade - is Mary, Did You Know?
The fact that these mofos won a literal Grammy from Avi's kitchen closet is just... 🤯

False, they have added small effects such as a little bit of reverb. Very minor though, but you can still hear it a little. It's impossible to get that effect without adding it in, unless they did a lot of layering and editing.
Effects? They do it live in concert. They use some compression and frequency EQ on the sound board.
Their live videos are fun to watch too cause they sound exactly the same!!!!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand that's why they're a Grammy award-winning A Cappella group.
Mega props to Kevin and Avi. From your reaction, I think you are going to become a Pentaholic.
You REALLY need to watch Pentatonix Come Along! Absolutely my favorite fun song from PTX!!
BEST reaction to PTX, Daft Punk Medley I've ever seen!!! 😀
Near speechless outros by first-time Pentatonix reactors is very normal. A few of my PTX favorites are Mad World, Mary Did You Know, and Gold.
They can sing any genre. This is why they've won 5 Grammys so far.

The simplest explanation is that they are aliens.
Recommend their Rather Be, Amazing Grace, Love Again, and My Favorite Things.
This is a staple in their live concerts. Several awesome live examples out there.
100% them! Love your reactions! We're supporting you!
I love how you can see the exact moment Kevin's beatboxing broke your brain (completely understandable, we've all been there lol).

Thanks for playing Pentatonix.
They also got an Emmy for Dance od the Sugar Plum Fairy.
I've since seen them sing this live. Sounds exactly the same. No post editing here. All perfect timing.

For an original song of Pentatonix, I recommend Sing. Really fun. Plus, Mary Did You Know, Imagine, Amazing Grace, Hallelujah, and The Prayer.
I am loving Avi's music! I'm so proud of him. He's in his element, I think.
