@@josephryan5448 not really with the newest Sonys. But if you are used to color grade and ease of use with the Canons. Then the Sonys may take some time to get used to. I have a buddy who has an Sony A7RIV. Then he got curious and brought a Canon R5. Now he wants to sell his A7RIV mainly because of the canon colors.
@@Photomeike that’s kinda where I’m at. I would like to love Sony’s camera with all of their features and third party glass, but it’s just easier getting what I want for photos and videos on Lumix, Nikon and Canon.
I just switched to a Sony a7riii from my 6dmkii few months ago and I’m loving it. I highly recommend the tamron 28-75 2.8 for an everyday zoom. Fast AF, great quality, its sharp, and I honestly have no complaints. Also not too expensive
Hey Mitch! I've been a Sony shooter since 2011, when the NEX-C3 was launched! I've seen the whole Sony E Mount grow. My favourite lenses have definitely been the Sony Zeiss 55mm 1.8, Sigma 85mm 1.4 DG DN and the 135mm 1.8 GM for primes. For zooms, I have been incredibly impressed with the Sigma 24-70 2.8 DG DN ART, Sony 70-200 F4 G OSS & 70-200 2.8 GM II and the Sony 12-24. Can't wait to test out the 35-150 2.0-2.8 by Tamron soon! Hope you enjoy your A7 IV!

I have been taking photos with Sony cameras professionally for about a year now. My lenses for 90% of my work are 24mm gm and 85mm f1.8. The 85mm especially is a real deal regardless of the cheap price tag. Looking foward your future content -not that I haven't been enjoying before this.

And there’s one that Im excited to try but havent had the chance yet and it is the Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8. Insane piece of gear also. Cant wait to see what you create!

I took a similar path when switching camera bodies, From the Nikon D90 (2009), to the Canon 5DMkIII (2012) and then the 5DMKIV, (Super disappointed in the upgrade) and then moved to Mirrorless on the Sony A7RIII in 2017.
I love my 35mm F1.4 GM. I also have the Sony 14mm F1.8 GM, Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art, and Sony 135mm F1.8 GM and love using all of them. I would say the 35mm and 135mm are the two that are on my camera the most.

Congrats on the purchase mate! I agree with the other comments suggesting an 85mm to compliment your 35mm. But something a little different, maybe consider the new 70-200mkii. Mine arrived last week and I was blown away how light it is, so keeping it on the camera all day is so easy. I still own an 85mm and love it, but the 70-200 gives you so much more options, and is still fantastic at portrait work! The quality is outstanding. Something to think about. ✌️
If the stabilization interests you and you like to vlog, the 20mm 1.8 would be great. That should give you room for active stabilization or catalyst browse to do post stabilization. I don’t do much video but love that lens for photo. I use it more than I though because the character is lovely and the distortion is really fun to mess with. I have that, the 35gm, 50gm, 24-105 (most used), and 70-200gm. They are all excellent!
lots of great lenses for Sony - but do try the Voigtlander 65mm APO. It's incredible. For a cheap, small walk around lens - the 28mm F2 is lots of fun - and the 21mm Wide angle converter means you dont need to expose the shutter.
Please pleased 🤗 test the 1080p in 60fps between the two cameras. Wondering If the Sony can be upsized to 4k 60fps from HD to avoid the crop in emergencies.

Yes most likely my plan also. Sell the RF 35 1.8 and get the Sony 35 1.4. In fact i will sell all the EF lenses and only keep the RF 24-105L and the primes RF16 2.8. 50 1.8 and 85 2.0 for the R6.
1:50 Can you tell me why you always wanted a flip screen? Genuine question. As apart from vlogging what is the point of this screen. It’s slow, obtrusive and inconvenient to use. Having to pull it all out, twist and re-align is a pita. And if to leave it in you then lose any opportunity to tilt, which is far faster and inconspicuous. Also if you bought it to Vlog with, why spend £2,400 (GBP) on a camera to just to Vlog with?
Been really enjoying your channel Mitch! I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you end up using Sony as your primary camera for paid work/trips. The dynamic range, highlight roll off (I love Canon color, but the highlight handling compared to Sony isn't great, but is also part of the Canon "look" in a way...IMO), AF speed, and lens choices are hard to ignore even if Canon color feels better SOOC

Interesting, I just switched over to Canon from Sony. I picked up the R6 as my main body and an RP as a backup. I feel like I have to do more work in post with Sony to get the colors where I want them.
I switched from Sony to canon. I’d the A7IV had an equal EVF and rear screen to the R5 I might have gone back just for that 35 GM. But I guess I’ll just have to wait for canon to get their stuff out.
I have the R6 and all the cheaper RF lens and a few EF L lenses.I shoot mostly photos but also some family videos. Been using Canon for 21 years ever since the D30 came out. I also had a second system which was a Sony. 6400 and A73 but did not enjoy using them. So now its time to revisit Sony. Few reasons. One - great 1.4 lenses that are affordable compared to what Canon has. Second they have the 200-600 zoom lens and third I need more pixels compared to my R6. I have Sigma 1.4 lenses with adaptors but they suck for video with all the focusing noise. So I will continue with the Canon as my main system but the A74 is inevitably coming. Will test it for 6 months and see how I feel about it. And yes the Sony A73 colors were hard to work with. Balancing skin tones in shade always had a green tinge. So yeah I will trade some old EF lenses towards the new Sony A74. One comment. For all the family videos I always shoot 4k60 because I never know when I need to slow down the footage. Kids do the funniest things.

How is the size difference? I just went to BestBuy and I was so disappointed by R6 size. I’m leaning toward ordering Sony a7iv but if it’s as big as a7riv, I think I will stick to my eos r. Another main reason I want Sony is the 3rd party good lenses option. I want 24-70 f2.8 really bad and RF lenses are too expensive.
A few months from now video will be..... Sorry guys I switched to Sony, the camera is just to good. I was a Canon 5D III shooter, and one day I went to a local camera store event at the zoo were all camera reps with all cameras and lenses were there for trying out. I took the Sony A7 III and a few G lenses out for a spin and have never looked back.

Well done! I wish the A7 IV was available here in the states. We have to wait till the end of December. But great choice for camera and lens combo. I'm a Sony shooter as well. I'd recommend first getting the FE 85mm f1.8 or the Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG DN. Either of them will pair with the 35mm really nice. Specialty lenses to check out, are the 24mm f1.4 GM (probably my favorite lens of all time), 50mm f1.2 GM, and the 14mm f1.8 GM. Sony's standard zoom is getting a bit old and is expected to get a refresh next year, so if you need a standard zoom, I'd recommend the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 G2 or the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN. I personally went with the 28-75 G2 from Tamron because it's a unique and solid lens, that is compact and light, and is a great all rounder. Enjoy the new camera system! I've been thinking about doing the same as you, except picking up and adding a Canon R system to my existing kit. :)

I’m actually considering getting on 2 systems myself. Sony for video & night photography. I’ve had the A7siii on loan for 2 weeks and it’s amazing for video and low light. Battery life is heaps better and no need to convert footage to prores. However I still prefer canon R5 for photography. So I’m torn. Yes the focus wobble is bad on the R5/6

Hi there. Could you share a Sony A7IV video sample of 1080p 24fps compared with the same scene in 4k 24fps, please? I just want to understand if FHD is good or soft as it downsampled from 7K. Also, if you can record 1080p 60 and 120 FPS it would be perfect.
Dan Watson shows this in one of his A74 videos. Unfortunately the 1080p wasn't great. But he did say that maybe because he was comparing it to very good 4K.

Get the Sigma 85mm F1.4 Art DG DN. Very sharp, very cost effective.
For me it is the 35 GM and the 135 GM that are my most used primes. For zoom, it is now the Tamron 35-150.
Sigma 85mm 1.4 dg dn is a must, best 85mm ever, and 55mm 1.8, both small and light weel worth it

I don't like 28mm. Wide and not wide at same time. Kinda bad quality.

You should try some of the tamron/sigma offerings. It is one of the advantages of Sony, You might even try Viltrox and other budged option.

The 50 1.2 is the absolute best, can’t go wrong, the focus is insane for a 1.2 lense

A7iv also has 13 more mp for cropping. Active stabilization. More glass. Apsc crop in video.

I got the 35 1.4 as well. The sigma 85 1.4 is an awesome lens as well....if you do not mind fixing pin cushion in LR. otherwise it is stellar.

Well done! I wish the A7 IV was available here in the states. We have to wait till the end of December. But great choice for camera and lens combo. I'm a Sony shooter as well. I'd recommend first getting the FE 85mm f1.8 or the Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG DN. Either of them will pair with the 35mm really nice. Specialty lenses to check out, are the 24mm f1.4 GM (probably my favorite lens of all time), 50mm f1.2 GM, and the 14mm f1.8 GM.
Sony's standard zoom is getting a bit old and is expected to get a refresh next year, so if you need a standard zoom, I'd recommend the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 G2 or the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN. I personally went with the 28-75 G2 from Tamron because it's a unique and solid lens, that is compact and light, and is a great all rounder. Enjoy the new camera system! I've been thinking about doing the same as you, except picking up and adding a Canon R system to my existing kit. :)
Don't forget the new tamron 35-150 F2.8 !
Interested to see how you go with the new setup. I’ve done the round trip between all the brands and landed at Fujifilm as an unexpected favourite for both photo and video 📷🎥😁.

I’m actually considering getting on 2 systems myself. Sony for video & night photography. I’ve had the A7siii on loan for 2 weeks and it’s amazing for video and low light. Battery life is heaps better and no need to convert footage to prores. However I still prefer canon R5 for photography. So I’m torn.

Hi there. Could you share a Sony A7IV video sample of 1080p 24fps compared with the same scene in 4k 24fps, please? I just want to understand if FHD is good or soft as it downsampled from 7K.
Also, if you can record 1080p 60 and 120 FPS it would be perfect.
Dan Watson shows this in one of his A74 videos. Unfortunately the 1080p wasn't great. But he did say that maybe because he was comparing it to very good 4K.
