  • In this video I review and share all the things that might make the Aputure INFINIBAR a better fit for you compared to traditional tube lights.
The Aputure INFINIBAR system is nearly infinitely expandable, so you can connect up to 10 INFINIBAR lights together, not only in a straight line, but creating all kinds of shapes like triangles, stars, hexagons, and more.
The diffusion surface on these lights is flat, so you'll get a solid block of light when using them as practical lights in-frame. This not only looks better in general, but lets you more realistically repliacte real-world light sources.
Since the light goes from edge to edge, they are nearly seamless, and the integrated rail system on the back makes fine adjustments easy.
On top of all their unique features, the INFINIBAR lights have everything you'd expect from production-level lights, including green/magenta tint adjustment, wireless remote control via the Sidus Link mobile app and Lumen Radio CRMX, plus a wide selection of modifiers light soft boxes and grids available.

Your light reviews are always top notch man. I do wish you had done some color tests with your meter on these.

Fair enough. I have a few lights I need to post specs for in the queue.
Aputure is one brand where you can actually trust the specs they list on their website.

That’s a good point. But it’s always nice to get the facts from a trusted reviewer 😊

I think these are under rated. I have 4 of each size… the LCD is very good and the soft box quite nice… both dramatically expand the capabilities and I never do a job without them. I have these even though own 8 Helios and Titans. Each has its pros and cons… great piece of kit.

      Totally agree.
I think a lot of people directly compare these to tube lights, which is fair in some ways, but they are more different than I think people realize. They really are their own new product category in my opinion.

When I first got the PB3 and PB6 I wasn't a huge fan. They felt really overpriced for what they are (fancy tube lights that are have no real IP rating). However I've started to really like them, their soft boxes and the fact they have built in CRMX.
I still feel they are a little pricey but I'm pretty happy with them after owning them for a bit.

I hear you, they definitely aren't cheap, especially compared to more consumer-geared tube lights like the Amaran PT tubes. But, once you start using them, you see how big of a difference the form factor plays!

The adjustable magnet isn't designed to be adjusted for mounting options, its due to the design of the PB3 being slightly larger compared to the PB6/PB12 and allows them to still connect to each other and be flush to surfaces. It might be good in a pinch but theres nothing stopping that magnet from moving or holding the light in place. I do love the infinibar though and I always reach for them if I need an on set practical.

Thanks for bringing this up! I could've gone into more detail on this.
Yes, the magnet "overlays" are mainly for making the 2 bigger lights thicker, to match the PB3. That way they are all aligned when connected. If you only use the 2' and 4' lights, you can remove them to make them even thinner.
But, when you use the PB6/12 in a horizontal setup, either hanging on a wall, or the underside of something, the magnets can be adjusted and the friction within the rail is plenty to keep them from moving.

Any experience using a typical R&G interview? Would these provide any backlight/fill on a face at 2ft away, or are they mainly for background props or a splash of colour on a wall in a controlled room?

They would for sure. They are actually brighter than the average tube light of the same size. For example, the Amaran PT2c outputs around 200 lux from 1 meter, while the INFINIBAR PB6 (2') outputs around 300 lux, so work well as a hair light, back light, fill light.
The key is "controlled room". They wouldn't really be bright enough for all that if you had daylight streaming in from windows all over. Hope that helps!

@@NewLayer I'm not sure that pt2c is a fair comparison for 'average tube light' - the pt lights are notably dimmer than the amaran t lights or pavotubes (475 and 377lux@1m respectively). 300lux isn't bad but I think it's worth noting that it is 25% or so dimmer than comparable non-pixel tubes, because you might not need pixel effects if you're doing interviews.

@@leenhouse217 Fair enough! The PT lights are not super bright, but they also aren't the dimmest.
I think it's important to point out that although "100 lux" or "25% brighter" seems like a lot, the difference between 377 and 475 lux is less than 1/3 of a stop in camera terms, so you'd be using the same exposure settings either way. From a practical standpoint, I can't imagine a scenario where that little difference would actually matter.
Most tube 1-2' tube lights are best for accent lighting, while a few are good for key/fill lights as well. Zhiyun makes some crazy bright tube style lights, which is what I point people to who need something closer to the output of a COB light.
