In this video we're going to do a review and compare Shopify and BigCommerce. So these two are probably the biggest juggernauts of online stores and hosting online stores and if you're going to go with one of the two I recommend if you're going to go with a store that's a hosted shopping cart I recommend going with one of these two and I'll reveal at the end of this video which my pick is but first let's go over the pros and cons of each of these. So let's start off with Shopify.
    Pros of Shopify
    - Better credit card rates you get a better credit card processing fees when using Shopify which means you make more money from your online store it's a pretty big deal now the difference between Shopify and Bigcommerce isn't huge as far as how much it is you can do more research into that if you want but it does exist. So you'll make a little bit more using Shopify
    - Better and cheaper templates. BigCommerce is a little bit the templates there are a little bit more expensive and from what I've seen in my research Shopify has better templates and since the template is a very big part of your online store it's going to be what your online store looks like at least before you customize it that's that's a pretty big deal
    - Better add-ons and apps once again this is a really big deal because there's add-ons that you can add your store things such as being able to leave ratings things such as Apple as people are checking out saying hey if you like this you might also like this things that aren't built into Shopify you can pay a little extra money and get them as an add-on and Shopify has way better add-ons way better apps that go into it basically then bigcommerce does
-It integrates with Pinterest product listing ads in a ton of things for whatever reason and maybe it's because it's more popular and that is actually probably the reason Shopify is more popular and it tends to integrate into more different and better platforms being able to sell on Pinterest very easily is a huge advantage being a low sell product listing ads very easily is a huge advantage though BigCommerce does have some of that as well. So let's go over the pros of Bigcommerce now.
    Pros of Bigcommerce
-Better out of the box and that's a really big thing you can do gift cards on the lowest tier you can add gift cards you can do built-in ratings real-time shipping quotes these are all things that on Shopify you have to pay for. So with Bigcommerce out of the box it's better than Shopify in a lot of ways
-Better abandoned cart at least from what I've seen out of the box then Shopify does. So that's another big advantage. So let's hope partnerships with Alibaba not something that's really important to me but it might be important to you basically what it allows you to do a Bigcommerce has this partnership where you can buy stuff and kind of buy inventory from Alibaba it's a little bit more of a seamless integration you can do some extra research on that if you're interested but let's go into the
    Cons of Shopify
Some of the cons of Shopify you're going to need third-party apps like I said out of the box Bigcommerce is pretty good it was Shopify you're going to need a lot of apps not my favorite thing in the world there's fees for using third payment a third payment like gateway which honestly you probably don't need a third payment gateway you should just go to Shopify. So this isn't a huge con but if you do go with a third-party payment system it'll be a problem now a Bigcommerce some of the cons are selling limit on the basic plan is fifty thousand dollars what that doesn't make any sense to me you shouldn't be a limit to how much you can sell if you if the basic plan is appropriate for you if you let it sell as much as you want.
    Cons of Bigcommerce
there it's got a much smaller user base than Shopify which means a lot of things which means they don't have quite as much money to develop the platform to make it better which means there's not going to be as many apps which means it's not going to be as many integrations. So that's a big thing a big advantage of being on a platform that's very popular such as Shopify is a lot of people use it which means there's a lot of help a lot of forms out there helping you have you know on how to use it there's a lot of communities that are 100% around Shopify. So keep that in mind when making your decision.

I used shopify and I had to leave after an increase in fees. Big commerce allows simple currency change for FREE and doesn’t change in the shopping cart, better theme - it actually is simple to use, better range of options for products, including colour and sizing. I wish I used it straight away.

Shopify as a site uses Big commerce and is its underlining system. Just go to Big Commerce scroll to the bottom of the page you see shopify as one of the companies that use Big Commerce System :)

Shopify URLs are not the best for SEO.

I have used both, and I have to say that I LOVE Bigcommerce. I was once on the phone for almost two hours with a rep from Shopify who never solved my problem. This has never happened to me with Bigcommerce, they either answer by email, phone or chat promptly and their reps are very knowledgable. They have great apps, and as of now, I have only used their Cornerstone free template which looks and works great! I'm sure Shopify may have a ton of app integration options due to their popularity, but in my honest opinion, as a start-up, Bigcommerce offers all you need at a great price.

Hello Travis, here is my question!
    1. Does Shopify accept PayPal payments if linked?
    2. For a ecommerce site where i would be selling many products, would you recommend shopify or bigcommerce?
    3. What do you think of Woo Commerce compared to shopify / bigcommerce?
    4. If you were to choose the biggest pro for bigcommerce, what would it be?
    5. As of right now, i hate wix because of its terrible drop down menu's. Does SHopify of BigCommerce have the better menu option?
    Thank you

OK For one I have used Wix, Shopify, GoCentral , and now I have finally found my home at BigCommerce.com.
Shopify instructed me to apply for a payment gateway for high risk clients, So I did,
It took me two months to complete the process, then unbeknownst to me Shopify discontinued integration with my payment gateway they told me to get. And never gave anyone warning.
That application was extensive. I had to prove that I was not a money laundering, drug dealing, terrorist.
Well they refused to give me a refund for a product I could not use. Until today.
I moved to Big Commerce because their price, security, and integrations blow everyone else away

Never mention about the transaction fee and yes, there is 2.9% + 30¢ for every transaction fee for shopify (april 2018) while bigcommcerce is completely free of transaction fee. This is big part of it and you never compare it. 99% of your video is promoting shopify. I know there is ton of good things about shopify, however, you are way too subjective on every comparison.

Lets educate the right way please. If you use Shopify payments you dont get hit with an additional transaction fee. However lets say you get a private merchant service that provides .6% on every transaction.(which you can do by simply walking into your bank and asking if they provide merchant services)..Shopify will charge you an additional 1% for not using Shopify payments. The total is 1.6% for every transaction making it the best option versus Shopify payments which is 2.6% + $.30 each transaction.

    • @edsensation
      @edsensation 7 лет назад +1

  • @Edwintopdigital

Awesome video as its very informative! But please update this video as many of the things mentioned are inaccurate. Shopify does in fact provide real time shipping quotes due to its synchronization with USPS, FedEx, and UPS. Also Shopify does have Oberlo which auto syncs with Aliexpress. I would strongly suggest a 3rd payment gateway as your bank protects you and Shopify payments is just the middle man. Plus your bank gives you a cheaper transaction fee making it the best solution to save money on transaction fees. Why would a 3rd party gateway be a problem? As a developer Im totally against apps because apps inject codes into your website which according to app developers, they think one shoe fits everybody. Truth is, the more apps you install...the sluggish your website becomes and youre more prone to glitches. Instead have a professional developer install a custom web solution integrated exclusively to your site. So instead of paying a monthly fee, its a one time cost and thats it. You save money in the long term. I think the real difference or game changer is more focusing on the enterprise clients. Those who need high bandwidth websites where they receive over 100k visitors a month and have very high revenues.

Shopify might charge a little more for justifiable reasons, better product, user friendly, better design. Big-commerce on the other hand may be cheaper, but it’s riddled with technical problems, tech support is clueless and indifferent.

I have used both and bigcommerce support is better. Also as you said Bigcommerce is a more complete engine... also you can't just say shopify themes is better because there is tons of third party companies that sells themes to bigcommerce and other companies and that's all what they do. It depends on your budget and what design you want. Also I disagree when you said they don't have the money to develop lol I attend a monthly development video conferences with 20+ people working on the engine.

I have 2 stores on BigCommerce. I agree that Shopify looks superior to BigCommerce for all around speed, templates and apps. And I am planning or strongly wanting to set up my next ecommerce store on Shopify. Possible deal breaker though is that if you want to display 3rd party shipping quotes like from FedEx, you have to go for the Shopify Advanced plan for $299. That sucks because we use FedEx and have a great discount with them. Sure, we can use UPS and USPS with Shopify Basic and regular Shopify plan, but the rates are not as good. Big Commerce doesn't have this limitation, they will integrate your shipping account from FedEx or UPS or anything else on any plan they offer. This is helpful if you use a separate shipping and inventory program like Ordoro, Linnworks or Shipworks because the shipping rates will match. So basically it sucks to have to pay $299/mo for that capability on Shopify and might tip the balance in favor of BigCommerce. Any suggestions on how to get around this? Are there maybe any apps that will allow 3rd party shipping quotes?

A Quick one here: Please in all these, are these two platforms(Shopify and Bigcommerce) actual credit/debit card processors?...where a customer can make direct payments with their cards on my Shopify/Bigcommerce website whereby the funds would automatically be deposited into my bank account? Also, if i don't actually own a US bank account, how do i get paid via the credit/debit card processor?...what's the possibility of integration?

Like your review. I have a site now done with Magento that is 4 yrs old and not mobile friendly and version will be phased out end of year by them. The person I had develop it is no longer around to make changes. It is neversnag.com a fishing tackle site. I have talked to both shopify and bigcommerce . Seems like shopify is used more. But bigcommerce says it can transform my magento site into a bigcommerce site without a fee then ready so I can then control myself. And no additional fees like shopify charges for their payment system. Am I right in going with them or should I rebuild from scratch with Shopify?

Any business that forces you to pay a monthly fee for every add-up will be out of business in less than 10 years. Those who assess a monthly fee but are "paid annually" will meet the same future. Those methods are a way for the ecommerce software company to put your hands squarely in your pocket, as a customer. I hate those businesses who have long lists of fees.
