In this two part video I fight an overheating camera to show you one mode of brake failure on a deuce, and how to repair it, plus how to test a brake switch.
Thank you for making these videos. On my deuce the brake lights stay on once you press the pedal. Ive got the older style hydralic switch on the front of the air pack. To get the lights to go off i can bleed a small amount iof fluid out the airpack. Taking the master cylinder cover over does not relaeas the pressure. This is all after replacing a failed brake switch and power bleeding the whole system with dot 5.
This means you are retaining pressure in the hydraulic side after you release the pedal. That could be one of two things; either you have some debris in the master cylinder blocking the return port ( very common, just get an overhaul kit and rebuild and clean it out), or you have something sticking inside the air pack valving. Take the skid plate off the air pack, press the brake to recreate your problem, then get down and tap on the valve housing on the side of the air pack with a small hammer. Not soft, but not too hard. It's aluminum. If the brake lights go out, it's in the air pack.
@@tacticalrepair Could I of caused this issue when bleeding the system and stirred up some dirt? If its the airpack would i need a rebuild kit? Thank you.
@@tacticalrepair Sorry more questions, having removed several brake cylinders, some are stained with small amounts of dbris stuck to the bore. Can this be polished off? Also the centre of the bore is not smooth, the area where the springs sit, its not corroded, as if the the centre was not bored smooth.
Tatical Repair, what's your opinion on the safety of single circuit brakes? Is it worth it to convert these trucks to dual circuit or hydroboost systems? I blew a hydraulic line yesterday and smacked the car in front of me. It was my fault for not paying more attention to my brake lines, but in my defense the truck did pass state inspection last summer. I plan on doing a full brake line restoration but I feel wary about driving the truck anymore with the single circuit. What are your thoughts?
Got my new MCyl installed all brake drums bleed except passenger front. The passenger front bleed valve was totally removed and bone dry Driver front bleed off fine Any suggestions, please?
@@tacticalrepair speaking on brake line items, why a proportion valve could not be fitted between front and rear? Seems these units are common in civy truck's? ruclips.net/video/S11p2Isgmu4/видео.html
@@tacticalrepair thanks my consideration also as it works on unbalanced flows & to balance flows on 3 sets of drums would prove problematic I appreciate your many hours experience shared about this truck on YT! Wishing you & your's a great 2022!
Hi,, I hope you get my comment, I have some problem im my deuce truck, it get too hot and push water out, please give me the reason I need your assistant,
Vinnie A once a year, I just use regular air tool oil. PB blaster will deteriorate the rubber o-rings inside. Do not use any kind of penetrating oil on your air pack.
Hi, I believe the hydraulic side of my brake system is failing. I noticed a few days ago that the brake pedal bottoms out with slight resistance when there's no air pressure in the system. I'm almost sure the right rear wheel cylinder is leaking. I plan to check and replace it soon, I've never swapped a wheel cylinder on the truck and I'm not sure what parts I'll need to replace along with the cylinder. Are replacement gaskets required for anything? Any special pieces that might be a good idea to swap at the same time? Thanks!
I would certainly replace the outer hub seal and axle flange gasket as long as you are there. You may want to order a new spindle nut lock as well, since they are usually damaged. If you have one wheel cylinder leaking, it is time to replace them all, along with all five soft brake hoses.

@@p51dghostrider quite possibly. If it is the air pack you will need a kit

@@p51dghostrider yes, just use a brake cylinder hone and it'll clean up. Don't worry about the middle area. Packings and pucks don't go that far in.
Is there two brake light switches ? Is the air pressure switch same as the brake light switch ?

Replace the soft line and the wheel cylinder on that side.

NICE! This is what I'm dealing with. PS - I'd add "airpack and deuce and a half" to your description, but you might already have it in the tags)
Can you just change it to an electronic trigger off the pedal? that way you get brake lights and one less point of failure?
My brakes are not releasing and pedal is hard (no play in the pedal ) where should I start to find the problem?

Probably failed headgasket.
You ever lubricate the airpack? Should i use zoom spout oil, or PB blaster? I'm getting 2 responses.
