    My 1970 m35A2 has the squeeze type parking brake and where the cable comes through the Cab there’s nothing there but a round hole so the cable comes through the cab . What kind of bracket goes there to hold the cable. and thanks for all the videos you do they’ve really been a big help!!!!!!

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  2 года назад +1

      Would be the same bracket any other M35 of any year or type has. Mounts under the cab floor. You'll have to find one from a parts truck.

      Thanks for the reply and info I was looking in the Tm Does that bracket have a U-bolt that holds the cable to the bracket? Thanks again

    Hey Bud, I believe you forgot to mention the cam screw adjustment on the stabilizer spring (moustache spring) which is adjusted to equalize the top and bottom space between the drum and inner shoe. If you mentioned it and I missed it, my apologies.

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  5 лет назад +2

      Nope, you're right. I forgot to mention it. Still more helpful and complete than any other video like it out there right now.

      @@tacticalrepair Indeed very helpful. Thanks Garrett. This was one of the first things I had to go through when I got my truck. The pads were worn so badly that every rivet head was making contact with the drum.

    So on the same subject of parking brake- I’ve seen comments that it’s not good to park these trucks in gear. Is that correct?

    • @TopShotDustin

      The theory is if they start to roll they can potentially start and bulldoze through whatever is in front of them.

      You should never solely rely on parking brakes for anything they literally make wheel chicks for this reason

    New M35 owner and have to replace the cable. I notice the bed is off as you stated in the beginning, but can you do it with the bed still on? Or do you have to take the bed off??

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Год назад +1

      You can do it with the bed on. It isn't as easy, but I've done plenty.

    i want to try and figure a way, to install an air brake chamber to the park brake. So that it works like my freightliner. Super heavy spring applies the brake when there is no air pressure. Apply air pressure to release the park brake. Seems this would work pretty well.

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  2 года назад +2

      I've been thinking about doing this as well, but I'm on another continent.😄
      It should work if you can find an air can that fits in that space.

    Thank you so much for this vid. I have a question about the e shims. You said you can get them at any hard ware store. What size would I look for. I dont even have one.
    Thanks again.

      No, the E- clips you can, and I think they're 1". The shims you'll have to get from a surplus parts supplier like bigmikesmotorpool.com

    Is the mustache spring supposed to 'smile' or 'frown'? Because in this video its smiling. Thought it was supposed to frown in order to replicate as "mustache"

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  3 года назад +2

      Either way is correct. It makes no difference.

    Hey Garrett, got a couple stupid questions. First of all, on a truck where the handle in the cab is seized up (I've seen it happen) what is the best way to break it loose? Just WD40 or some similar lubricant? Secondly, on an M939 series 5 ton is this assembly under the truck fairly similar? Asking as they are air-brake trucks. Pardon my ignorance...LOL

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  5 лет назад +2

      The 939 series is not the same, which is why it isn't in the title. If a good penetrating oil like kroil won't free it, you'll have to replace it. WD-40 is the worst penetrating oil or preservative oil on the market. You are better off using water.

    Mine is missing the pin for the mustache spring on the outer brake pad. I can't seem to find a replacement pin for the outer pad. Can I use a bold and nuts to make a pin? Thanks

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  5 лет назад +1

      No, I've tried that before and it leaves too much slack in the spring eye, then the threads cut into the spring and it comes apart. Check bigmikesmotorpool.com for one. If it isn't listed, call him. Not everything he stocks is on the site.

    • @thecapt705

    I was told that some of these trucks have a dump valve for the spring brake chamber that when you apply the parking brake the valve is applied that dumps the air in the truck setting the spring brakes. is that a fact ? if so can you provide some info on that ?
