How To Clean Cloth Mouse Pads (NOT RGB)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 19 сен 2024
- Due to a recent increase in people washing RGB pads this way... THIS VIDEO IS FOR STANDARD CLOTH PADS ONLY. Do not wash anything that has electrical components like this.
Thanks to everyone who gave suggestions last time. I'll do an update video if there's a better way at some stage, or if this method turns out to cause problems... so far so good though.
This is for cloth mouse pads (no RGB/electronics). Hard pads should be easy.
Was going to make this video a long time ago but wanted to make sure the method worked first and didn't cause any issues.

water won't damage most electronics for as long as they're off.
That's what I said. For as long as they're off.
It's worth noting that hot water can loosen or degrade glue in mouse pads. Premium mouse pads are usually more resistant to this effect, but just to be safe, use cold water when washing your mouse pad.

Obviously... RGB mousepads require machine washing in the heaviest cycle, followed by tumble dry on high or put into the microwave on the Popcorn preset

It's amazing hey ... some people thought I faked this video and just bought a new pad. But it legitimately makes them look like new! The Swift-RX comes out shiny.
@@RocketJumpNinja mine literally looks brand new. Before it ruint the esthetic with that weird ugly pad and the mamba elite. Looks A1 now. Thank you again!
This is a 1 minute life saver!
Cleaned my pads for years this way with no tracking issues. Leaving the mousepad in the sink to soak for half an hour helps a ton, so you don't have to use near as much friction to remove grime. Hoping people who buy pads every few months watch this video. There is no reason at all to be doing that, when cleaning is an option....unless if the pads don't have side stitching to hold the top to the pad base.
Edit- Caught something. The only difference in method is that I rinse the pad with warm water *twice* to get rid of residual soap. If that step is missed, the pad will get stickier over time.
Even if the pads don't have stitching, if they're gentle with them it should be fine. But yeah definitely hope people don't just keep buying new pads. Wash them!
This is the first time hearing people rebuying pads every few months. Thought cleaning a cloth was common knowledge.
my pad doesnt have side stitching and it is still strong after 3 washes
I've always put mine in the washing machine (with towels or similar : they help clean each other) As long as its a quality mat it will come out looking brand new.
Corvanor I've been washing my razer mousepad for years using only sponge and warm water, but it's quality is never as good as a brand new one though. So I can understand why some people rebuy it every few months, especially if you're a fps gamer. Some gaming mousepads can become too smooth, even if you use only detergent like in this vid.

You're only supposed to get the top soaked through and not the rubberized bottom. If you wash the rubber side you strip it from its oils and makes it more Slippery for users after. If you're looking for the best way to clean a mouse pad
1: get yourself a large cloth and soak it in warm water and soap
2: damp soaked cloth all over the fabric side making sure to get those spots you use more often
3: get a second cloth( or rinse the first cloth until all the suds are gone) and start to rinse the suds out. Gentle pressure and wiping
4: last step is to get yourself your most absorbent towel and damp dry on a hard surface. Leave to air dry for next 30 mins.
Voila you now have a clean mouse pad and your rubber will stay sticky :)

Now we only need videos on how to clean mouse, keyboard, headset, and other tech. Love this video, short and informative! Thank you Zy
mouse/headset/other tech with a regular vacuum/moist towel, keyboard you can throw in the dishwasher, works well but you have to leave it to dry to be safe for at least a week, other option is cleaning by hand for hours, removing all the keycaps, dissassembling it, washing the top, keycaps etc... But you can use it almost instantly if you dry it out after cleaning as usually only wet cotton swabs are used and not much water gets onto the keyboard itself.
Thanks mate I was wondering how to do it right.

Well, this video is good, but if you didn't know this method you could have used a washing machine. Yes, it will degrade the pad over time, but over time you would've eventually bought a new pad anyway, so at least it's cheaper than buying a new pad every time the old one is dirty
I just toss it in the washing machine. Never had an issue and it still has its grip so imo there's no real point in hand washing it

Switching to a hard rubber pad was one of the best things I did for my setup. Besides cleaning being a breeze, the tracking is so much more accurate and smooth. The only down side is that it's very slippery, so either a wireless mouse or a good mouse bungee is required.
I watched this 5 years ago and I found the video again today. Thank you for this.
Yeah honestly even I watch it to remind myself of the method hah solid reference video, no wasted time. Glad it's helping you too!
My mousepad had a lot of friction and my mouse wwould randomly stop tracking on it. I washed it today, and all the friction is gone. It feels way smoother than before, looks way cleaner and most importantly tracks flawlessly. Thank you! You saved me the money I would have spent on getting a new one.
What mousepad do you have? Washing mine with this method made it very hard and inconsistent to move my mouse over it. Im using the zowie g-sr-se mousepad and a gpro wireless with core pad mouse skates.

wash rgb with extra soap, then dry it in the microwave
This is what i mostly do
I don't recommend hanging it to dry, they can stretch and develop wrinkles.
Which pads have stretched and wrinkled? I've cleaned this one a few times now, no issues yet.
I stretched my G640 a little just by pressure from wiping it clean, but... it's just 'best practice' for drying fabric, from a fashion nut with obscenely expensive clothes ;)
This is why your Mum/Sergeant/whoever taught you to put clothes pegs on the seams of your clothes, hang socks by the toes, etc, when you put them on the hill's hoist - because when you hang stuff to dry it can stretch it by the weight of the item, and then dry that way. (also why sun-drying isn't always wise because the faster drying exacerbates this effect)
I just lay mine over the top of a clothes horse (you know those wire frames dipped in plastic, which you use to dry clothes inside) so that the fabric is supported.
Obviously it's different for different fabrics and designs, neoprene isn't highly susceptible to it, and I guess the stitching on yours would add considerable strength to it... although mixed fabrics and stitching stretch and contract at different rates so yeh...probably best to avoid it.
I just realised I know way too much about laundry. lol look, I'm old, I've screwed it up a lot of times and learned from my mistakes (RIP Versace jeans. F)
Your comparison is flawed. Mouse mats have rubber bases, they will not stretch out like normal fabrics do when hung out to dry
Your reading is flawed. I mentioned the neoprene, and neoprene does stretch. Ask a surfer.... or look at my g640.
Yes neoprene can stretch a lot if your pull it, but it won't stretch much at all under it's own weight. Your mat stretched because you applied too much pressure whist rubbing it
This is like the best tutorial on a little question like that. Thanks man
Great, quick. I'm subscribing
