He looks messed up at the end there because since he lost the qualification to undergo the trial it's rejecting him and he has to force his way in. The consequences of trying to take the trial without qualification depends on the person's level of mana, which is why Roswaal suffered so much while Subaru only feels a little nauseous.
Subaru is all messed up at the end because Emilia is hiding in the Trial building, and Subaru lost his qualification, so he had to force his way in.
There's no Ci in the Japanese syllabary, so Shima is the closest we could get to Cima. So I do think the ABCD initials theory works.

I think the thing you have to come to accept when watching Re:Zero is that for every questioned that gets answered, a new one appears.
Don’t worry, like almost every time in this show, if you’re confused it’s either a small detail meant for rewatchers, or something that will be cleared up in a few episodes.

For this kind of scenes, the Otto VA won supporting male of the year and always plays secondary roles until this season that has 3 protagonists.
Otto for me is one of the best supportive characters in the anime

Ah, another Easter Egg with the explanation at 8:09 . Ryuzu Shima (one of the first four copies) violated her contract with Echidna, entered the graveyard to save Garfiel, AND DID NOT RETURN (or perhaps she did return, but she hasn't been seen since...).
I watched Re:Zero about 10 times by now, and I always find something new. No spoilers here, I'm just hinting at this episode right here, Ep 14, and this explanation of Ryuzu Shima. Once Season 2 wraps up for Alana, we can discuss this further. For now I'll let it go. For those who don't know, the Season 2 finale isn't actually how it ended. Some content was cut again (perhaps to lead with it as a setup for Season 3). Some of you may know the true Season 2 ending... I always wondered who that clone was. Maybe it's Ryuzu Shima.

Isnt shima the one in white ? in the loop when gar locked sub out she said in the name of ryuzu shima something something.
But Ryuzu Shima is the one in white..... One who is closest to Garf and one who.. wait, THERE IS A SPOILER OK??? so and one who sacrifices herself at ep24.
She did not return as an overseer and was lumped in with the white ones as punishment. She has not been seen but was secretly with Garfiel, plotting to prevent the Sanctuary's liberation (we know that because she can talk while the other white ones cannot, so the one with Gar is Shima). And yeah, there is also that thing about s2 ending but I won't say more :)
@@yunfanji she actually is there when you hear Echidna talk in one of the last episodes, hinting at her fate.
The light novel probably goes more in depth, so when some things are left out it can get really confusing in anime.
The reason why Subaru took off from Emilia, even though he promised not to, is explained later. Nevertheless, when the reason is revealed, you still may not get it. In any case, there is no possible way to guess the reason at this point.
@Mrs_AIanaMisako I do not want to tell you more because that would be a spoiler. However, you have not missed anything, and the answer is very in character for Subaru. I do not even know if this made a difference. Clearly Puck breaking the seal on Emilia's memory was more important. The answer should be revealed in the next episode or two.

God the writing in this show is such a convoluted mess sometimes.
Not really. If you’re having trouble it’s either you’re confused over some cut content from the source material (which is understandable, both from a viewer perspective and from the anime production perspective), or you have lesser media literacy skills. If the latter, i might recommend trying out a different show.

I can understand why you’d think that, but in reality it’s just a lot of info to take in at once every single episode. They tried to fit so much material into each episode which is great because upon second watch you really get to appreciate it but I will admit on first watch it feels confusing
Sort of like what's already been said, convoluted definitely isn't the right description, more so just a lot to take in at once.
