So yes, the first episode throws a lot of people into loop. A new world that looks like it is obviously in a game, but the thing is, this was hinted at in the end of 'Ordinal Scale'. The idea of creating 'Bottom Up AIs'. And here, we are seeing a world built with the World Seed, a world built by the company known as 'Rath'. So, right now, this first episode is 'world building' of this arc and the world built by Rath. No, Luke - You did not skip anything. This is again, how they start the setup of this world. And in a moment, you will see what this is about. So what happen here, is Alice has technically violated the Taboo Index, by 'touching' the Dark Territory, which has been been forbidden by the Taboo Index. Alice was identified by the floating head as the person who has violated the Taboo Index. Her father is forced, by the Taboo Index to obey the orders of the Integrity Knight, hence why he did it. You will see something happening to Eugeo. So as you can see - This is within 'the system'. And yes, to a degree, this is an experiment that Kirito volunteered to help out with. And now, we are switched over to a little later. And yes, this is back in Gun Gale Online. And yes, this is the first time we have seen any of the SAO group besides Kirito and Sinon being in GGO. No, you saw Kirito fall asleep in game. Remember, this virtual reality is using the 'active, conscious mind'. So falling unconscious in the game is possible. Sinon is asking Kirito to join in on BoB again (Which he hasn't for a while) to help her out with Subtlizer. The guy you mentioned earlier - Is not the criminal from the Death Gun incident. Remember, there are other 'Laughing Coffin' players. Two of them were involved in the Death Gun incident, but in the case, they didn't mention who the other person was. They only know Red-eye Xaxa and the fact that his brother were for sure involved, but one other. The other Laughing Coffin people were obviously not 'imprisoned', as we saw the fact that Red-Eye Xaxa was one of the Laughing Coffin people, but was 'running around', actually killing people. So what Kirito is talking about is not like Ordinal Scale. This is seeing whether or not it is possible to 'copy' the soul. And he is describing what they are trying to do. This is almost similar to Ordinal Scale, the difference here, is not to 'pull' the memories, but creating a life form 'from the bottm up' just like how Yuuna was created. And mind you, they aren't putting a chip in his head. The device is simialr to a NervGear - a Virtual Reality interface, however, part of it goes through the 'fluctlight', basically building a way 'create a personality' Basically a digital copy. Now the difference here, is unlike the Nervgear/amusphere/augma, the actual 'interaction' is happening with the 'digital' version of the person, or this in case, it is described as a 'fluctlight cube'. Hence why he doesn't have 'memories' of his dives into the Underworld.
Kirito also has a penchant to get into real bodily harm sooo... "health" monitor makes sense... BTW the fluctlight stuff is a real world theory... pretty sure it's called something else but people are actively trying to find our 'souls'.
The dent on the tree is real, it has been created in a painstakingly slow process over 9 generations and 300 years. It's kind of like memory loss where you remember vaguely something happened but can't remember what. This is all the information I will disclose, as these are pretty much LN exclusive/ just background info. Don't worry, all the questions will be answered throughout the season. You will know about Alice, Eugeo, the rumored sword, the dragon, the reason they never disobey orders, Code 871, the team of PKers throwing gadgets left and right, Subtilizer, the legacy of Laughing Coffin, Rath, the true intentions of Kikouka, nearly everything that was built up for this amazing season. yeah definitely. So far it's going painfully slow, especially because of 5 episodes a stream equaling 5 episodes a week Luke was already 2 seasons ahead... Please give us more episodes :(
The split on the tree is mostly visual effect, however you deal more damage to the tree if you hit it directly the farther from the split you strike the less damage it deals. Problem being that tinitiny little split has taken 7 generations of wood cutters to make. At 1000 good hits a day they've taken about 50 durability off the tree in 3 months, it has billions of hp remaining. A normal tree would take far less time to chop but their "calling" is to chop specifically this tree until if falls or they do. Callings are jobs assigned by a village chief, they are irrefutable and permanent unless you're given a completable one.
The people arguing about Ordinal Scales canonicity is silly(since it is confirmed to be canon by Reki Kawahara himself, and we can clearly see that it's canon based on stuff that is talked about and happens in Alicization, so there's nothing to argue about to begin with). Whether or not OS happens(even though it clearly does in the anime), WTF was Kirito going to do? If he had a Kendo sword he'd body Johnny Black(since even in the LN he has some amount of training in it on top of muscle memory from the games he's played), but he had an Umbrella, so he really didn't have many options(which he still managed to use to injure JB by jabbing it in his leg). OS was also retconned to be canon to the LN as well, which is fine, because there was already a perfect gap where it fit between Mothers Rosario, and Alicization. Reki Kawahara also did a good job writing OS with Alicization in mind. Since Alicization dealt with memory(the STL blocking memory), he made OS deal with memory in a different, but similar way(the Augma blocking memory with side effects).
And the funny thing about it, the STL, the Augma and the Nerve Gear/Amusphere all lead up to something but you have to finish Alicization and watch Accel World for the pieces to fall into place.

I alwas find that part stupid, Kirito could do more with that umbrella. he can either deflect the hand with a swing or aim at the head. he has more reach than the other guy, but instead he aimed at the leg. fking hell

I would if Klein wasn't older than all of them. There's roughly a 7 year age gap, which would be fine if they were all adults, but Klein has been an adult the whole series, while Liz has been a teen the whole series, so it'd be pretty gross. The dynamic/relationship they share is great, but just not in a romantic way.
Dont remember this at all from Alicization.. LMAO just shows how insignificant some of these parts actually are. Even the ending which is obviously a big thing, but in the grand scheme it's something easily forgettable.

Giilty pleasure junk show. After Sword Art Online, Accel World? Same universe like 20 some years later. Great concept, not favorite protagonist but… good Imagine trying to train for real combat in VR games but kids with Jedi lightsabers show up. Best to order everyone to log out than to accidentally train against Jedi for no good reason.
Yeah, Accel World would be a good follow-up to watching SAO. It just sucks that so much good content was skipped from the show to the movie. The conclusion to the Chrome Disaster arc hit so hard.
