I’m originally from Yorkshire but have lived in Australia for over 35 years.
When the temperature reaches 40°C, here in Australia, we take the 40°C as a trigger as four beers per hour. In the UK, that should be eight beers per hour.

    Update.
We use space blankets now. Cheaper and they scrunch up to almost nothing for easy storage. We have found them very resilient.
Tip 4 to 8 are crucial so don’t skip them 👍. Tip 6 is the one most people don’t know about. Try it and prepare to be amazed.
PLEASE SHARE VIDEO LINK AS WIDELY AS POSSIBLE ON FORUMS ETC. 👍

Hi, When it’s really hot in Australia, and we last summer went for weeks over 40 degrees in WA, keep blinds closed from early morning till evening, dont have your windows open as it lets the heat in. Use fans if you have them, or air conditioner if lucky enough to have one. And drink lots of water to keep hydrated. This is for people living in homes. I feel for you guys not used to having this heat. I’ve been told by a close friend in Lancashire who has experienced our heat, that it’s very humid there. That makes the heat worst. Those cool beads remind me of how we also use wet towels around our neck. Loving your vlogs 🙋‍♀️

Thanks for the tips, I had been wondering how you were coping in these extreme temperatures but then I noticed from your last release that it was dated May, so you were probably luckily back in the UK. May I suggest that an idea for a video piece that you maybe give us an idea of the day to day or weekly cost of traveling around to include Diesel, LPG, and daily excursions etc. It would be a great help for me as I hope to do something similar when I retire in a few years. Excellent tips. Remember not to leave pets or children in an unattended hot car. Unless guidelines to keep said vehicles cool are used, the internal ADDITIVE heat can send the interrior of the car into deadly heat values. Sun heat that is trapped in a car, can't get out as more gets in, and the effect adds heat upon heat, making it easily deadly. Safe travels, friends! Great idea there to place the reflectix on the exterior with magnets etc. First time I've seen it mentioned. And, it's easier to do it that way ono the exterior than in a crowded vehicle full of gear.

Excellent tips 👍. The biggest help I've found - but isn't always practical - get into a parkup under forest canopy, especially if it's on an elevation. The forest interior can be around 10-20 degrees cooler than direct sun. It's a real phenomena called forest cooling, related to heat absorption in leaves and cool night air retention in the forest floor.

@@LifeistooshortCK The bungalow is very well insulated and very cosy in winter (I only require a 4 tog duvet all throughout winter), but does stay quite cool for a long time in the summer. If I open the windows when it's hot outside, that brings the heat in. I've purposely not done that though over the past few days, so as to hopefully keep the place cool inside for when the high temperatures hit us from tomorrow.

They were the exact shape of the window and about 5" deep that the window rolled up into for safety. They allowed circulation and kept the bugs out at the same time . Now where did we hide those????hmmm Not sure where we ordered them some 35 years ago but must start googling to see if I can find them for our new van, if they still exist......thanks for the reminder !! ....Was the ending of your video meant to be a "cliff hanger"...take care...Cherryl from Canada

Thanks for that you two. I went with my cousin to Walton on the Naze yesterday, first proper trip out. Only for the day though. Parked the wrong way round at first but turned round so the shade was the entrance side. Opened both the windows at the front and put the built in fan on inside (I'd forgotten to pack my two portable fans!). We still can't get the roof up so will be calling into SC in a couple of weeks time to see if they can loosen it for me. Will be getting some reflecting sheets though, great tip. 🌞

Hello. With that roof they can be difficult to lift at first. It’s probably due to your technique so try this. Stand facing the front of the van so that the roof is resting on your back. Unhook everything and use your back and legs and finally arms to raise it. It’s the initial lift that is tricky until you get the hang of it. Needless to say go slow and don’t hurt yourself. Once it gets a little way up the gas struts will help you ❤️

Those were some great ideas to keep cool, I must say I didn't think about putting reflectics outside the van windows 👌 living in Australia with our extreme heat most of the other tips are what we do here to stay cool 👍 thanks for the video 🙌❤️

Give it a try on one window and prepare to be amazed. I was when I first had the idea. 👍

@@LifeistooshortCK In Australia, reflectics are usually used to keep unattended vehicles marginally cooler hence the practice of putting them inside the vehicle. Shade is more effective than any attempt to reflect sunlight.

@@listohan shade always wins over reflection but in vanlife it is often not available and then reflective works a treat.

you might be able to get the Australian cooling ties in a pet store in the UK. We have similar for our dog. First aid cool packs that you store in the freezer or fridge might also work.
    Congratulations with your new van!
Ever considered a vacuum tube solar cooker? quite popular by other vanlifers. I bought one today myself, so I cannot yet tell from my own experience if it is great or not.
