Lexus SC300 5-Speed - One Take

- The Lexus SC300 and SC400 absolutely dominated the luxury coupe market in the early 1990's. They were comfortable, refined, and absolutely bulletproof, as were all Lexus's of the period. Sharing a platform with the Toyota Supra, today, the SC300 is a tuner's dream. This example is extraordinarily rare for two reasons: 1) It has a 5-speed manual from the factory, and 2) It's stock.
Check out Rich's Lexus SC300 On WheelWell!

Lol watching this back I had no idea the amount of times I said "yeah" when we were filming. I was more interested in what Matt had to say about the car than talking about it myself, but I didn't want to just be completely silent the whole time. I guess my solution to that was to just say yeah all the time lol. Sorry about that
yeah. no problem :)
you did great in the video no need to say sorry btw nice car man
don't worry man I would do that too in that situation
yeah
+Joshua Marin yeah? ...oh HELLYEAH!
The SC along with the Acura Legend coupe set the trend for the best-looking coupes in the 90's. To this day these cars are more of an eye candy than a lot of new cars on the market.
Correction... The Supra shares the platform with the Lexus SC... It was first
Rich, never sell this beauty. These cars are absolute gems! I'd love to own one with a 5-speed some day.
Epic coupe.
Has serious potential to be a drift car, drag car, track car, fast cruiser you name it. One of the best cars to ever be built and it was highly sort after when it came out even biggie the rapper was singing about this car. I love Lexus cars
Yeah.
Why ruin this for drifting? it’s curb weight is almost 3900lbs. he’s got a 2jzge in there, not a gte.
starting next year the U.S. can finally get the '91 Toyota Soarer with the 1jzgte or 1uzfe and their awesome digital gauge.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Cool to see an SC300. I've had 15 Sc's from 1000hp-stock. Had just about every swap 1JZ, 2JZ-GTE, VVTI, NA-t, LS1, etc. They're great cars and very cheap. Even the stock manual 5spd cars aren't worth much, but they are more valuable than autos. I've had a couple stock 5spd's ranging from $800-$3500. The most expensive SC would likely be a 97 5spd or the 98's, or any car with black interior. The most I've ever paid for an SC was $4000 for a 1JZ VVTI/ W58 5spd and 2JZ-GTE single/W58 5spd. My LS1 SC300 road race car weighed in at 2700lbs with full cage and hung with some very expensive race cars (100-500k)
Meghani Motorsports man I really enjoyed reading your list. I've owned 4 Lexus's and a sc400 for ten years. Only replaced the alt. Loved that cars reliability.
+Meghani Motorsports how do you find one for $800?? They have a hefty price tag in the Seattle area
If i were to build a lexus is300 to daily u think building the n/a or swaping in the gte and build that?
LS1? damn, you know you got a good platform when people are LS swapping it
Seeing that this comment is 6 years old the way the car market is now I imagine these cars have skyrocketed in price
My dad used to have a '92 SC400 for about 5 years. After he came down with an illness I drove it around for a while and absolutely loved it. The levels of refinement (for the period of course) are unmatched by anything I've ever driven, and it was so reliable I often found myself questioning whether it would ever break. I love the SCs lines too, it's one of those cars which never seems to age. In that respect it's a lot like the Mk IV Supra and the FD RX-7 - all have rounded, organic lines that might've seemed futuristic at the time, but took the passage of time really well. The interior is spacious and well lit, and though the inputs are decidedly GT-like (think 5-series versus M3), it's relaxing to drive without being nauseous. Driving it at 120mph felt like going 60mph in a less refined car - it was so smooth and planted at high speed I caught myself speeding with it many times without realising it.
If I could get a manual here in Europe in decent condition I'd buy it and drive it to the end of time. It's a lovely car, and I would recommend it to anyone who's looking for an enjoyable and reliable daily driver. Finding a good example could take a while, but it's a good idea to pay a little more for one in good condition.
Matt "questions, comments, discussions" - Rich "Yeah" .... it would be nice if people were a bit more chatty about their cars ;) ... all the same really nice car and I'd definitely do a few mods to a SC300 its jus begging to be unleashed ... Great vid Matt
+Ahmed Adam Only enthusiasts can't stop talking about cars. This guys wasn't one.
+darek4488 u mad bro
There's no pleasing RUclips. The owners either talk too much, too little, know everything, don't know enough.
+Ahmed Adam No actually sometimes its better to keep the car original, in these cars their still isn't a "resto-mod" scene to them and no one wants to be a pioneer, why? you could be getting in the scene too early and that means a cash loss! the only good thing for the lexus right now is stock EVERYTHING. Good to keep or good to sell stock let another jack ass hack a nice car while you get about a quarter because you had the thing stock.
+Adam SafeHouse
That defeats the purpose of restomodding. You don't do it to make money. You do it to create something different. Not harping on your logic because I think you're mostly right and I'm still living in a fantasy world. But if I ever toss money into a car like an SC or my escort...it's a loss as soon as I spend it in my eyes. The gain is the experiences had aka "Smiles Per Gallon".
Is this Matt Farah's million mile lexus?
+DD Nope, that's an LS400 of the same period
+Rich Eklund its just a reference... people who watch regular car reviews would understand :)
+DD You mean "It's just an over-used joke".
+DD It is, good eye
I love how Matt is telling the owner how people convert their SC300's to "Supras", like the dude doesnt know that already haha.. Then proceeds to ask if its a 1JZ! I was cringing at the noob'ness!
The early z30 sc300/soarer actually did come with the 1JZ
@@MrCTruck only in japan. Toyota never offered 1jz outside japan. Even tho they should've.
I still want an IS300 with a manual to build.
I counted exactly 50 "yeah"s and "yup"s lol
Hopefully I set a record at least 🙈
+Rich Eklund dude that was so annoying dead ass
+Grant l Keep the negativity to yourself. Not everyone is born an entertainer, so there's no need to give this man any hassle.
+Rich Eklund,

We see a variety of cars - some powerful and loud, others lack enthusiasm in their performance and bass in their voice. Yet apart from the Prius I enjoyed every video. The variety is what makes the content great. So when it comes to the owners, I expect similar variety - some are less verbose and "out there" and some cut Matt off and do not stop talking. Awesome. We live in a world of variety. I would be very disappointed if all the cars were the same and the owners had the same personalities. Nice car Rich - the looks are not for me but I can understand the appeal.
but does it have a million miles?
Matt
Automatic SC300 in my area (Ohio) go for 3k-5k, depending on condition. Manuals start at 6K and go up to about 8 or 9 grand. There was only 3883 (or so) SC300 made with Manuals. This is a car I'm saving up for, already on forums for, I plan to pick up an SC300 Manual(or auto and do a swap) and an SC400 Auto--one to go nuts with modding, one to drive daily. When I do get this done--and I know you hear this all the time--but I'll be glad to offer to let you drive the SC300 I build, if you still will be doing these One Take's in a year or 2....Give you the experience of what a modded one is like.
+Jacobi Sparks wait until the JDM 1991 soarer/sc300 are legal to import from Japan. You don't have to wait that long.
...you need to research way more. if you're paying 8k for a stock manual sc300 i got some volcano insurance to sell you. they can be found for $5000 all day in amazing shape. i drove to Atlanta to pick up mine.
TheOprostaj And you clearly need to learn prices are different in different areas.Annnnd if you read, I said 6-9 grand...6 grand, 5 grand, NOT a big difference. I can find them cheaper, I'm giving the price for ones that are not completely beat down, I seen one for only 3 grand but it wasn't running and needed a new paint job. Its a mater of conditions and areas--I know my stuff, I'd appreciate it if you knew yours before telling me that I "need to research way more"...Maybe you don't understand my obsession with SC300. They're one of my top 3 favorite cars.
Ron Yim I don't have extra cash to throw at a JDM Soarer. The car may even be initially cheaper then an SC300, but importation costs and fees push it into the higher end prices. Like 9 grand for one I could find for 5 that isn't even in all that great condition. Plus, you only get a 1JZ in a Soarer, which would be fine, but I'd prefer a 2JZ. I can find a broke down SC300, get a 2JZGTE from a Supra and drop it in, and still be cheaper then importing a 1JZ Soarer.
+Jacobi Sparks If you knew your stuff you wouldn't be looking at 9k manual SCs. How many have you owned? Or do you just know stuff from looking at forums? 5 to 9 grand is a big difference which is what I look at (always look at high ceiling unless you're okay with getting piece of shit cars). Also if you're looking at those prices and mentioning them then you're okay with paying them. Why look at overpriced cars? Look at the west coast, they're cheap as fuck there. Couple hundred to fly out and drive it back. Save yourself $4000. You keep mentioning these are for "Not beat down cars". For 9k you can find a perfect 1j/R154 swapped SC. Join the Facebook group, there's a MINT Renaissance Red manual 95 with black interior and 137,000 miles for $5000. Or you can come and buy my 93 5 speed. Special price for you since we're not too far away is $8,999 :)
these as the v8 4L had full digital dashes it was (RHD) and called a toyota soarer or as mericans call it a lexus sc400
and all these V8s were never manual , they were all autos and what manuals ones you do see have supra gearboxes and pedal box
the toyota soarer with the 1uz 4L v8 also had as an option air bag suspension that was self leveling(park up a hill and the front is higher the rear of the car will go up to match the front)(go around a corner the car will level out as a level smooth ride)
only the small baby engines 1jz 2jz had the manual
Did you really just call the 1jz and 2jz baby engines?
+genmaxpain Lol aren't 2JZ heavier than LS engines???
+jacques kalkur who said anything about the merican LS engine?
the Ls engine never came out from the factory in any toyota or lexus
toyota and lexus had there own v8 engines called 1uz 2uz and 3uz that has more potential(with the right mods) than the Ls engines
but in what your saying im guessing they are about the same if the LS engine is full alloy(alloy block and alloy heads) but if the LS has a cast block then the 2jz is lighter
+EminentLine i did compared to the 1UZ they are baby engines
genmaxpain wasn't it also one of the first cars to have a gps?
My stepdad has a stock '98 SC300 in manual. Bone stock. I guess he has a gem lol.
+Sean Cronin has to be a swap. Last year of sc300 manual was 97. and only 120 were made that year.
+SirDougelton well he bought the car brand new so it must be a 97 then.
+Sean Cronin if thats true he has a unicorn. if it is also the ultra rare royal saphire pearl color then he is sitting on a 15k car.
Thats a good question. I know its white but I'm not positive of the exact color code
+Sean Cronin rsp is a blue color. still though that car is worth significantly more than your average sc.
I live down near Atlanta but I actually have one of the last 10-50 GS400s ever produced (with a June 2000 production date). It is a silver 2000 GS400 platinum with the 300hp 1UZ VVT and it has about 77k miles at the moment. The interior still smells new and never been left out of the garage. The thing is a damn rocket and, of course, when it came out in 1997 it was the world's fastest production sedan.
GS400s are extremely rare in decent condition and man is it a blast to drive.
Wish Matt had driven my 1992 SC300/5 speed, it had 59,000 miles on it when I bought it it in 2011. Same pearl white/off white leather combo. One owner in NJ who always kept it in the garage, ZERO RUST, stock as a rock. The interior looked brand new, paint was almost as nice, I mean maybe 1 or 2 rock chips but it was all factory pearl white paint. I drove the wheels off that car, from Nashville visited such exotic places as Nova Scotia, Montreal, and all places in between. Did 4 or 5 trips to panhandle of Florida with family. Drove it over 6000 miles in the 2 months I wandered out west. It was a thirsty but steady steed, 80mph=22mpg, I gave up on premium fuel and it ran good on regular. Ran it at 120mph for a few hundred miles in Nevada and Utah, didn't seem it mind it one bit.
Also all the gauges/LCD displays worked flawlessly until I sold it in 2018. And the clutch engaged at the top of the pedal, easy to figure out, except that one time the clutch hydraulics let go, then you had to push clutch in, then pull clutch out with your toes lol. Also I can say that 2JZ-GE is infinitely smooth, 900rpm, 2000rpm, 4000rpm, 6000rpm, only difference you noticed in that car was the sound, much smoother than that V6 in my current 2014 V6 ES350. Only downfall of that SC300 was it started to develop a case of roof/windshield seal rust, sold it for cheap when it started to leak up there, which was a shame cause the factory paint otherwise looked mint.
"yeah.... yeah.... yeah....yeah....yeah...yeah...yeah...yeah..."
These are great cars, so many of the Toyota Soarers ended up being imported from Japan to Australia. I had a UZ32 which is a bit different to the SC 300/400 in that it has active suspension (not airbags), four wheel steering, factory touch screen TV, 1UZ engine and awesome retro LCD dash. All in a car built in 1992!
I test drove an automatic SC300 in 1996 or 1997 I think in a snowstorm/ice storm that shut down the entire state of Minnesota. I drove it on ice. As a senior in high school. Great powertrain and super handling in limited traction. As in almost no traction. It is a remarkable car as stock. It was the Japanese vehicle that opened my eyes to what Japanese cars can do. As an adult I owned an LS430 with an even better powertrain. And now I have an LS460 Sport Edition. And I want to get an LC500. I guess you could say it was my gateway Lexus.
it's about time the lexus sc (first generation) started getting the recognition they deserve. I love my 97 sc 300, with light mods. Hands down the most reliable car I've own to date. Great review Matt i always enjoy your reviews.
these things are literally $500-$5000 cars in Australia haha and thats for a 1JZ twin turbo model or a SC400 V8 model....the v8s being the cheapest, and they are EVERYWHERE! the N/A SC300 was never really imported as it was the lowest on power and spec
+gureno19 Yes, you can get the 2JZ-GE model (frame JZZ31) in Australia and they are very common - more common here in New Zealand though. They only became available from 1994. I had a 1996 Soarer JZZ31 for 9 years - sold it a couple of years ago for $2500 at 250,000km's and still going strong. great car.
Matthew Sharpe I said the SC300's were not imported AS much as other soarer variants, not that they were never imported all together.
+gureno19 The Auto transmissions on these are a weak point, especially on the 1JZGTE models. People do burnouts in them and destroy 2nd gear, taking the rest of the box with it shortly after. They are a good traffic cruiser to lounge in for the money, quite a heavy car tho in stop start traffic. Botched electronic repairs/aftermarket additions are a fucking nightmare tho, the wiring in these cars is complicated for their age, and very few auto sparkies will touch them as most repair diagrams are in Japanese only.
My SC300 with 133k miles has had the left front shock replaced 90 bucks, front lower rear control arm bushings 70 bucks, Fuel and Water needle LED's 90 bucks, MAF sensor 40 bucks, Driver side window regulator 120 bucks, Heater control valve 30 bucks, Radiator 90bucks, Power steering pump 90 bucks, Alternator 90 bucks, Serpentine belt Gates 25 bucks, Brakes and Rotors all around EBC Red Stuff 200 bucks. So... In all a little less than 1000 dollars all installed by me as it was all easy to do except for the LED needles as you need to know how to soldier and have the time to re calibrate and add weight to fuel gauge needle to balance it. I bought my car used for around 2500 bucks over a year ago and it had 122k miles on it. These are all things I have done to sort it since owning it. It is now sorted and a pure joy to drive and own. The only 2 things it still needs sorted is the rear defrost does not work and remote trunk does not work. That is it. Car is all original and kept to factory spec. I test drove a 1992 SC400 with 104K and it is in super nice condition. Much better than my SC300 . Owner only wants 3500 bucks. It needs around 400 bucks worth of minor stuff. Water in one headlight, Jitter in steering on sharp bumps means it needs new shocks up front, and new LED needles for fuel and Tack... Oh no !! That is a pain.. Being that I own the SC300 and then driving the SC400, I see the attraction to the SC300 over the 400.. The SC300 has the 400 in every way except power. The 400 has a more heavy feel to steering, braking not as quick. All due to the extra weight of the 4 liter V8. But when you put your foot into it, it for sure has extra kick!! That extra 50hp and 50 ft lbs can be felt for sure!! I need another car like I need a hole in my head, but I am tempted to buy that SC400!! I feel the need for that extra kick. Also.. It is too quiet. Needs some Cat Backs or something!! I feel the need for speed!!!!!!!!!!
I would like to see what the gauges look like. I know one takes are easy, but would it be possible to focus in some of the car features after the drive? just a suggestion.
Toyotas in general are crazy reliable. My mr2 has 170k on it and never had any issues, and our Scion which we bought new in 2004 and put 280k miles on it, has never had anything other than general maintenance done to it, never needed anything else, and runs pretty much as good as it did when we got it.
i own a 92 SC300 factory 5 speed manual, love it, bought it for around 4k a few years back and it's the best car i've ever driven and i just cad to replace the factory clutch on an almost 24 year old car. lexus reliability.
It is really called Toyota Soarer and you can get Japanese spec car with 1JZ-GTE engine, that is 2.5 litre twin-turbo inline 6... That is also common swap for these US SC300s... 1jz is not same engine as in supra, since supra has 2JZ-GTE and as you all know it is 3.0 L twin-turbo inline 6
+ERK77VI There were NA supras too ya know with a 2JZ-GE, which is this engine
+ERK77VI I had one and it sucked, way too long and low, bottomed out over everything without being lowered, door trim breaks constantly and doors are way too heavy, most have auto transmissions. The only good thing about it was the 1JZ, and the fact you can get a decent one in Australia for like $3000.
+dontfeedthecode yep, it would be awesome to live in Australia since jdm stuff is plenty available.
...not this generation but yes...1jzs in Supras for years...
+ERK77VI It is not 'really' called a Toyota Soarer. There is the Lexus and the Toyota, essentially the same car but if it was sold as a Lexus it is a LEXUS.
Also it is incredibly incorrect to refer to the mk4 Supra engine as the only Supra engine.
What do you mean "worth quite a lot of money"? I had my 1994 Lexus SC300 with a factory 5-speed transmission professionally appraised a few years ago and it was worth less than $10K. It had less than 100K miles on it and the interior and exterior looked better than the example in this video. The vehicle has been modded, aftermarket turbo (338 rwhp), lowered 1" (Eibach springs, Tokiko shocks), removed all exterior badges and painted white sparkle pearl, 20" chrome three-spoke wheels, seats re-upholstered (leather), etc. The mods don't add much to the book value, but don't detract from it either. The only real issue is the gauge cluster, tach and speedo work but the temp and fuel gauges don't (the low fuel warning light does work). I have the NM vanity license plate "LEXUS", rear only per NM law. Note: The top speed of the SC300 is 156 mph, limited by redline in fifth. Mine won't go any faster but would get there quicker.
Just bought a 5 speed SC300 for $2000 :D
J that's an amazing deal! I've been looking online for awhile for good deals on this car but I've pretty much only seen automatics around that price :(
J i am looking for one too but i cant find one
Bought one for 125$ It’s the other day
@@stevemac7933 You lucky bastard
@@stevemac7933 does it still work?
Sold my automatic SC300 for 900$, autos especially the early years 92-95 go for real cheap, there are tons of them on CL for under 3k, manuals are usually around 5k or up if they are modified. These cars are amazing for their age, I miss mine.
Damn. Hard to believe this car is going on 25 years old! It fits in perfectly with today's cars.
Perfect sleeper platform. Great video.
Yes finally an SC3! Suspension and turbo, you won't regret it!
Matt, next year the first of the 30 series toyota soarers will be legal to import. They're basically a rhd sc300/400. The best part is they were available with the 1jz-gte and the beefier 5spd and if you find the right one it may even have the torsen rear end option. As far as sc300 values: a decent sc300 auto can be had for 3-4k easy, and the 5 spds go for around 7k. The sc400s are getting cheap these days, around 2-3k on average.
Is this Matt Farrah's Million Mile Lexus?
There is a 1992 SC400 with a Nissan CD009 six speed manual for sale in Auburn Washington for $7000 on craigslist. I wish i had the money for it.
you can turbo the i6 and basically have an mk4 supra but the supercharger from the late 80's early 90's thunderbird v6 bolts right In on the v8 and will give you 400 hp with very minor tuning.
Time for Matt to do a one take tuned SC now^^ Got my stock 93 manual SC for 3k a few years ago.
Just picked up a 92 sc300 manual trans for....wait for it.....$2000 in Texas great condition and 146000mi. Only downsides are ac isn't blowing cold needs a recharge and speedo and tach aren't working right now. I couldn't let that pass me up so I bought it the first chance I got
I have such huge respect to people who keep their cars stock.
2jz-ge with a stock w58 trans best set-up is a new head gasket and bigger injectors and you can turbo this guy on the cheap. then you can add a r154trans then you got a 2jz-GE N/A-T
I have a (beautiful) SC400. I can tell you for sure -- because I have them on my car -- that the Supra's Tein coilovers fit perfectly on it. Bam! Supra handling.
For the SC around I believe 1995/1996 model year they switched steering wheels from the ugly block type to the style seen on this SC.
Thinking about this car and the gauges makes me miss my 2000 Lin Continental.. That thing was such a cruiser and very modern interior, AC ice cold...
One of these sold at the recent Barrett Jackson auction with the sport package 5 speed 2j with 6k miles. For......$4,400
Wilfredo Narvaez wtf thats so low
That engine roar is very inspiring.
The tach and speedo needles are actually fluorescent tubes not led.
Funny thing about the SC is a lot of people buy it to make into a supra and get sticker shocked when they learn about the cost of parts and that old parts very rarely lose value. In other words these cars need a stubborn individual to make them what they want.
so its not 100% mechanically stock. Intake and exhaust are aftermarket performance mods, you also have a steering wheel from another vehicle all together. This car is 95% stock. Stock means 100% stock. I don't even consider my car stock because I use Bosch wipers as opposed to OEM wiper insert replacements
I own a 94 SC300 and I've had quite a few come up and ask how much I want for it. My answer has always been the same..."Not for sale, sorry." They are great cars and as someone else said, many don't believe it's a '94.
Can’t wait to get my sc running 😫😫😫 bought it for $250😁😁
That’s a steal, you bought it completely or as a shell?
@@jeffdeleon3567 complet with all the parts in the trunk lol I got it running m.ruclips.net/channel/UCq4y8esv5lquQ_tz3dyJxWw that’s my channel if yah wanna see it lol more coming just trying to build a ground for things I wanna do
thanks for posting matt i have been wait for this since you talked about it in the podcast
whatever ANYONE else is saying about the values of an SC does NOT apply to california, they are SOO common and cheap here. and then you have the guys that build them up and think their car can break the supra ceiling.
I have a 95. 5 speed. It has 96k on it and only mods are: intake, exhaust, steering wheel. And wheels.. Soon to have coilovers
Actually believe it or not the manual SC300 is running for an average price of 4,000~6,000 in southern california right now depending on mileage and condition (There's a few in the 7k range, but they're either JDM twin turbo swaps or single turbo 2jz's). The auto SC300 is going for about 2,000~4,000 typically, again depending on condition, and finally the SC400 for some reason is ALL OVER THE PLACE WITH PRICING. Lowest I've seen for one that works is 2,000 granted it was over 200k miles and had bad suspension.. and then there's a bunch up in the over 5k range (why). I don't know what the deal is with that, but I grabbed my SC400 for 3000 after bringing the guy down from 3500. 103k mile 2 owner car zero mechanical issues 1uz.
Basically, these cars are fucking awesome for the 5k and under pricerange.
+Kobrakai Oh yeah, man if that 225hp rating is a bit conservative.. a buddy of mine owns a SC300 and side by side the SC400 just pulls for days and really gives it a run for it's money, stock for stock. Kind of makes me wonder what the real rating for the sc400 is then.. I just know that I went from a 4th gen camaro to this and I don't think I can put the camaro on the same level as the sc400 since it just feels so stable at high speeds and doesn't feel like the slightest twitch movement will send you rolling. Is it faster or not.. I really don't know since the camaro just wasn't as structurally rigid as the SC400 is and therefore never hit the speeds that I've achieved in the SC lol.
I would be surprised to see someone pay 10k for a manual sc300. The NA 2jzge's were paired with a w58 transmission, NOT the famous v160 getray the 2jzgte's came with. The w58's can handle about 300-400whp depending on the state of the transmission and the driving style of the owner. It's pretty weak. In fact, the auto is also weak. But the turbo autos can be built to hold some crazy power.
The GE's biggest flaw is probably the transmission. Either a TT built auto or manual is going to cost a pretty penny. Some people opt for the th300/400 transmissions but everyone is different. This is the same general case for the is300's and the NA mk4's. Although, I'm not entirely sure what specific auto comes in the mk4, could be the same as the turbo, but I highly doubt it. SC300 is a great car, but the mk4, even NA, goes for outrageous money considering what else you could get.
getrag**** not getray
you can put a 1jz-gte and a r154 tranny in and have 500+ HP with these cars. there practically the same thing as a supra just not as well known or nice looking. but a 1jz-gte is practically the exact same engine as a 2jz-gte just .5 of a liter difference in the engines one came stock with 280hp the other 320 or so. but really both capable of crazy amounts and the 1jz-gte is more rev happy. but for half the price to go with a sc and a 1jz-gte I don't understand why more people do it.
Why is this listed as New York? I thought this same road was in Greenwich? I know it's close, but Connecticut represent.
I had a na 2J Aristo and when I sat in a stock 2jz-gte aristo, what a difference in low end torque...and I had to buy it
A manual tranny SC300 popped up on the auction lot where I work. If I didn't already have two cars, (no place to put a third at the moment) I would have totally tried to buy it. Even so, there was already someone else with their name in it. Until I saw it in person, I had no idea these were offered in manual. I thought it was a swap.
925k on the clock? Holy fuck Matt that's legit that you still keep it going man, has it been featured in a video by chance?
My 92 SC300 5spd only has 115k mi. Matt, you are right when you say a little suspension work goes a long way :)
I was going to get one of these or a Miata for my first car. I went Miata. Honestly, the deciding factor between the two was that I wanted a manual and I couldn't find a manual SC300.
But guys, listen... what if... we put a 2JZ-GTE... in a Miata... :o

Your sound effects are on point!
+acousticbruiser19 Will it even fit?
UPDATE: Google says it fits
+ravesilly we should as +Tom's Turbo Garage
So funny just seeing this comment, just recently actually sold my Miata to get into a 5-speed SC300
The owner seems to not know anything about his own car
It's his dad's car, not his.
Jonathan Colon lol he got that dumb look on his face. I know more than about these cars then the owner ...
Lexis Craig I be you cant even read a dipstick. And you have a pretty dumb look on your face too with that fake ass hair
Things broke on my 2002 IS300 with 150k miles. :(
man this place is literally up the road from me about 5 minutes. I have an SC400 from 95 and wanted you to check it out. Was thinking about turning it into a manual.
These also came with V8 variant in nz we have plenty their called toyota soarers some even had twin turbo engines
One of my dream cars forsure , but only in manual
This is not Matt Farah's million mile Lexus
i own a 1992 sc300 and 2002 is300 i love driving my sc wayyyy more..lol ofc mine is built customized.. LEXUS ...LOVE..
Matt, you need to do a turbo SC at least 5-600 with good suspension. I love this platform.
Is this Tavarish's funky painted Lexus?
sigh. i had the chance to buy a red 5spd sc300 7 years ago and passed on it because it had a expensive accident claim on it when it was brand new because parts were very costly... now i wish i had bought it =(
What does Matt do to make all the passengers so dull and mellow? Matt's excited and the other guys like meh it's a car.
2JZ motor is always a winner regardless of the model - GS, IS, SC, Supra, Aristo.
I am thinking about getting a gs300 with the same engine but I wish I could get a manual transmission in it.
Someone once told me the SC300 has the same power to weight ratio as an AE86 Corolla, making them very easy to hoon.
I thought these were autos only. I wonder what's rarer a legend type II with a stick or an sc with a stick.
I race with this guy on iRacing.
I didnt realize CJ was on iRacing :D
I'm guessing the SC300's didn't have the getrag transmission? maybe the R134 from the MK3 Supra? They used the A340d as the auto.
They have the 5-speed not the "bulletproof" Getrag 6-speed that came in the Turbo supra
+paradoxdesigns They have the W58 5spd. An R134 is the common upgrade since v160's cost $5k+.
lol u mean r154
The title says New York but is this not the same route you took in CT?
This road is just over the NY->CT boarder on the New York Side in a town named Armonk. The road he is driving on is named Byram Lake Road.
This was posted a week after i got my sc, how the hell am i just now seeing this lol
Kelly blue book value for this car with 5speed manual is $2,200 private sale
+PhoenixBHO KBB doesn't really give you the actual correct value. Look at completed sales on eBay motors you will get a better idea of actual price. If I trusted KBB prices I would have a WRX STi right now but when you look at their actual value its much higher. The EverydayDriver guys spoke about the KBB and Edmunds estimated prices being off one time on their podcast
Kelley blue book is a decent guide (although usually 10-15 percent optimistic) for normal, boring cars. For an enthusiast model with a cult following like these, KBB don't know shit.
Absolute fav car
Matt come to Toronto you can drive my IS 300 it has the same 2JZ but i'd imagine its a lighter car than the SC300.
The SC is about 3500lb
That era SC 300 and 400 were amazing.....loved the 400 with the 8.....but would totally daily 300 with a manual tranny..... Lexus set the standard....and is still raising the bar....but too much tech brings it VERY close to that 100k mark...:(....and WTF with that new grille..ick ...though the new coupe gives me some wood tbh :)
Can you ask people what they plan on doing with their cars ?
Love Matt, love Lexus, great vid.
Why does it say "New York" if you're in Connecticut?
plz do another sc300! if u get the chance of course
I used to own a sc400 i miss that car
always wanted one of these with 5 speed
Jesus, you get $5K for an automatic SC300 in America? I sold my automatic Soarer 2 years ago for $2500 NZD and it was in very good condition. You can get them for half that if you don't mind a bit of a project.
If the engine isn't smooth, I would bet the engine and transmission mounts are shot - started to have the same issues with my one just before I sold it, the new owner has replaced them and now it's back to silky smooth again.
Matt Come to Tennessee and drive my 2011 Altima. Got a few modifications.
Some of those even came with air ride suspension from the factory
+Wididy That was a JDM-only V8 model Soarer. North America didn't get those.
+Larque Fausse 4.0gt limited
The passenger is like A dead guy talking he is just like yeah.........un huh...........yeah........yup lol
*****
lol u know what i mean
I've seen a fair few of these in the UK. Not especially rare. Coupled with the fact production was shared with Toyota as the Soarer
