Right? Doesn’t it seem like something that should be obvious? Unfortunately this isn’t a concept that’s really discussed often. I didn’t really think of it until I learned a few of Charlie Christian’s solos.
Great lesson! I love how you took Charlie Christian's style (what I thought was more complicated before this video) and explained it in a concise/no b.s way in 8 minutes. Subscribed and looking forward to more content.
Holy crap Batmann! Great lesson. I recently hit a plateau, and I always want to go back to the Godfather of Jazz guitar, but none of the lessons and teachers have really hit on the hit thing for me to absorb it, until this. Thank you
Wow brilliant look at Charlies style, from a perspective thats totally new to me. Not the licks or the chord shapes, but the way you approach playing the lines straight out of the chord grips ( that G9 thing is wonderful!). Thanks, fantastic
Yeah, I’m fairly happy with its tone. I took it out for a gig last night for the first time, and it’s a bit quieter than all the rest of my guitars. So I’m thinking about replacing pickups on it. Want something louder and bigger, but still warm. Any thoughts?
What make is it the guitar then?, I thought it was a Gibson but their pups have a good output usually. I know what you mean about mixing the CC era stuff with the bebop - Ive spent years getting to sound boppy and it all sounds cliched to me now. I can hear a lot of this style, only simpler because of fewer chords, in the Scotty Moore rockabilly stuff. Anyway, thanx and what is the make of the guitar?
You should go to concerts carrying your guitar and tell everyone you are Derek Trucks. You'll get backstage, eat and drink for free, meet your favorite artist, and watch the show from the VIP section. Just kidding (not really). Great lesson, thanks.
Wes is easily one of my favorite players of all time, but him existing does not diminished Charlie's greatness in any way. There is still a great deal to learn from him, and he inspires me constantly! Without him we may not have had Wes.
Criminally underrated account!
Thanks! I appreciate that. I’m glad you’re enjoying my lessons!
Fantastic lesson and concepts very well presented. Opens up all kinds of new doors - thanks so much!!
Glad you enjoyed!
This is an approach that every guitarist needs to learn.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed! I have another Charlie Christian lesson coming out next week!

Thanks! I’m very glad my video helped you to breakthrough with this comment. That makes me happy.
This is really great stuff. You transformed a thinking task into a looking task (well looking at the fretboard). Makes it much easier! Thank you.
I'm glad I was able to help you!

Glad you enjoyed! Once I made the connection to the chord shapes it opened up an entirely new world for me!

Great Video! Django did this also and it's ALL you really need, to make music, with the other things you mentioned.
Very true! Django does this in a very similar way!
Really useful. Thank you very much.

I’m not going to lie, I’ve sort of had stuff like that happen to me. Many times hahaha.
Solid :)
Thanks!
Pertamax Gan
it would be good if you had tuned your guitar before filming
Apologies.
It was fine...why make stupid comments....
He was great back in his day, but Wes Montgomery came along.
Wes is easily one of my favorite players of all time, but him existing does not diminished Charlie's greatness in any way. There is still a great deal to learn from him, and he inspires me constantly! Without him we may not have had Wes.
Charlie Christian WAS NOT THE FIRST ELECTRIC GUITAR!
HE IS THE FIRST BEST ELECTRIC GUITARIST!
THE FIST WAS GAGE BREWER, 1932!
Why do you go through all the troubles showing us this but then you go so fast when you do the run
Basically he just copied the chord notes
Yes, he would view the chord shapes as arpeggios.
