I have watched and practiced over countless youtube videos. I can honestly say this is the first time I felt like I truly got something out of this lesson. It's quite literally the first time I feel the equivalent of that post-gym satisfaction, but with guitar. I am impressed.
Thanks Nick. I love the way you gradually increase the complexity of the licks. Amazing how Charlie's sense of time was so vibrant. making relatively simple ideas so effective and musical. I have been wanting to develop my sense of rhythm and syncopation for a long time and you have shown how to do it.
I love the format of this video. Nick plays a line and I try to imitate or copy it. Excellent. A very engaging way of teaching Jazz. Thanks so much. 👍🏿
Wonderful - just what I need to bring my playing on, I look forward to working through these examples. There's so much inspiring music here to work on, a BIG thank you for these transcriptions!

Good work Nick. As usual. Charlie wowed everyone, from Dizzy onwards. He was a seminal musician. One that influenced many. To you students wondering what makes Charlie sound so good, it is his time. He wants to make the folks dance.
Great exercises. Now you should make some that reflect going through some changes in his style. This is my first video of yours I have seen, so pardon me if you have already done my suggestion. Keep up the great work.
Excelencia! cortito y al pie. Divertido y necesario. Le bajé la velocidad a youtube para practicarlo mejor en piano, y fue una maravilla! se escucha con claridad el buen gusto de las frases y sirve muchisimo para asimilar lenguaje frase a frase a por más videos asi de expeditivos!
Dear Nick, thank you sooooo much for your tremendously inspiring tutorials!!! Such a fun and efficiency! … besides music: who is drawing these nice and funny cartoons-illustrations? You yourself?
This is such a great format, keep em coming! I'd also love a series of "Trading 8s" videos, where instead of just copying you we build on and respond to your phrases.
I quit "working out" to play JAZZ. Quit football to play it. They are all into sports and compete. Music is certainly some kind of sport we can cheer about. We play together as a football team and win the game. Got to just get the thing in tune first.....
I started going to the gym last week. First time in 56 years. I was so resistant to the idea, made excuses etc. (time, and that is was a vain activity etc). However I am loving the workouts , feeling stronger and more motivated than ever! I am grateful to my new friend who invited me and helped me to get out of my comfort zone!
In my humble opinion, this is the best way to learn jazz. First singing your lines and then playing the lines n the instrument.
Thanks for posting 👍
An hour in. Close but not quite there yet. Feels great.
Love it! Awesome work. It's more like an easy-peasy approach. Thank you🎉
Great to hear these old lines. Gee must have been over 30 years I've been listening to Christian.
Awesome video ! The concept of ear training with licks is excellent !
