  • Welcome to The Dram Club! In today's video, we're debunking some of the most prevalent myths in the whisky industry. Think you know your whisky? Let’s see if these common misconceptions have you fooled:
Myth: Older Whisky is Always Better 🚫
While age can add to rarity, it doesn’t always mean extra flavor. Your taste preferences are what truly matter.
Myth: Colour is a Good Indicator of Quality 🚫
Whisky color can be influenced by caramel coloring (E150a) for consistency. Don’t judge a whisky by its hue!
Myth: Single Malts are Better Than Blended Scotch Whiskies 🚫
Blended whiskies offer diverse flavor profiles. It’s all about personal preference.
Myth: Water Source’s Impact on Whisky’s Flavour 🚫
While water type (hard or soft) plays a role, many other factors like fermentation, distillation, and cask maturation have a significant impact.
Myth: Mixing Good Whisky is Sacrilege 🚫
Enjoy whisky how you like it! Mixing doesn’t diminish its quality; it enhances your drinking experience.

widow jane is a good example of mineral-heavy water that impacts the flavor of their whiskey. other than that, great video!

Expensive whiskies shouldn't be mixed with water. They should either be taken neat or with ice. If you still need water with your expensive whiskey then stop drinking that whiskey. Either you or that whiskey has a problem.

      That’s a very flawed logic

@@thedramclub Nope. It's very simple. Most expensive whiskies are matured and have multiple notes, layers and flavours to explore. That's what makes a particular whisky their character and identity. With water the whisky gets diluted and a lot of the notes, flavours just gone. The layers are just harder to experience with diluted form. The whisky loses its character and identity and it then only works as a substance to get drunk and nothing else. If you want to add water with expensive whisky, add only 10-15 ML of chilled water with 30 ML of standard whisky measure. It emulates the ice cubes a little. It will slightly dilute the drink but not too much to lose its character and identity. For some whiskeys it might bring one or two notes to more perfection.
If you have a lot of money to burn and don't care about taste and all and only want to get drunk then be my guest.
