I think I'm going to like this series. It is so different without Rex, and I love Rex's silliness, but I've always very much appreciated Daniel's seriousness, as well. (I'm way more like Daniel). This was a great video. To the point. Honest. Lovely!

Seconded!! You were a great duo, but since you had to go separate ways.. you're more my style. As the other chap said, no offence to the other channel, its just not my thing. This is right up my street

Suggestion : You should have an assistant (on camera) select the dram, pour the contents, and cover the bottle with something before you walk in and have the extra contents (box, letters, etc.) on the side covered to allow you a truly blind test. Just a thought. Even if you do not take this suggestions please keep doing you. I (we) appreciate your hard word! Stay safe.

I hope when the TTB releases their Standard of Identity for American Single Malt as proposed, that someone makes an American malt whisky in the style of Scotch Single Malt. Ex Bourbon casks, all pale malt, 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and natural color, twice pot stilled, and reasonably priced. I just want that style of whisky without the ridiculous retail prices of malt whisky imported from Scotland. Thanks, Daniel.

Looking forward to more review-forward content. Even if it isn't gifted from brands, this is the content that helps me make informed decisions about whiskey collecting. At 99 unique bottles and 147 total bottles, The Vault and its reviews have been a large part of my experience in finding quality whiskey and trustworthy reviews.

This will definitely come off as obscure, but Jack Daniel's Single Malt is basically the whiskey equivalent to the modern-day Ford Mustang GT350. By name it's an American muscle car, but it is powered by a very foreign (when it comes to American engines) Ferrari-esque flat-plane crank V8.

After consuming a few JD SBBP bourbons and one rye, I decided that the pouring of the distillate over maple charcoal gives a strong note that I called tangy. I enjoy the JD offerings that I've tried but as my palate has matured, I found I like other bourbon and rye more without that charcoal mellowed note.

Nice video. I am one that really enjoys American Single Malts. I happen to be sipping on Pfluger Single Malt, which is a very tasty dram. I also enjoy Westward and Andalusia Stryker Single Malt. Both are very, very tasty. The smoke on the Stryker is so nice that adds a rich depth. Keep on reviewing American Single Malts. Chets.

I haven't had this one but I did get to try the special release malt they put out a couple years ago, which I assume is pretty similar in profile. I liked it a lot and it was definitely Jacky... that particular acrid oak char note JD tends to have was there in spades. The sherry went well with it but I feel like blind I'd have picked it out as a sherry-finished JD rather than a single malt. Solid effort, I think, but it doesn't have anything on the various craft malt distilleries in the US.

    Great review.
I find it somewhat ironic (and not just a little hilarious) how none of the big brands have been able to produce a solid ASM yet. It seems theirs are coming like what one would expect from “craft”.
While the smaller craft distilleries are making amazing ASM!
All the same great have more players in the field. Now if we can get the liquor stores to separate the ASM from Bourbon on their shelves. 😖

Is it a magic wand? 😂 Would love to try more jack Daniels. Regular 7 is boring, but sure they should make great whiskey for all kinds of consumers. That box show why people dislike big brands, they make huge empty box to make you think you are getting a lot of things in it.

Why does everyone say it "singlemalt" when it's two words, "single malt?" That's like saying "bigdesk" when what you mean is "big desk."
Sorry - I get real pedantic about spoken English. 🙂
10:57 If that's your actual birth date, you're going to be 74, 10 years older than I am. But I thought you were like 10 years *younger* than I am. I think I'm officially jealous. 😂
11:35 I bet you like Balcones' barley whisky then. All I've had is the Lineage - the others are outside my budget - but it is emphatically *not* shy. 🥃

Honestly, I would be just fine with Jack Daniels going back to the ACTUAL Old No. 7 mashbill and proof from before their Corporate Overlords screwed that up. Old No. 7 WAS a 90 proof and had more character. It's still available...but as their "tourist brand", the Sinatra Edition.
I won't drink Jack. Nor do a lot of other people in TN that I know who KNOW it's not the original. Meanwhile, the corporates just keep making one of the state's heritage products into even more of a dog 'n' pony show.
    DICKEL FTW, Y'ALL!!!

I want to love ASM. I think the future is pretty bright but I'm not spending even $60-80 for a 3 year old 40-45%.
They're out there and I don't understand. Some of the dusty bottles I bought over the last few years just taste bad. I want to buy domestic and I know it'll be a sure bet in a few years
