When I saw your comment, I realized there are tons of people who purposefully only watch parts of videos who have no idea what the philosophy of the channel is. Do you think I should do some episodes where I explain it at the beginning?

Love your videos and closing messaging. I always have said good food and drink bring people together, i.e. good barbecue, good beer, and good whiskey. I love your sign off, we need more of this in this crazy world. I just now got started in the Bourbon world and I have checked out other channels but I like yours the best. I have learned alot from you. Keep up the great work.
That warms my heart. I have seen the other channels and mine definitely isn't the best, but I am glad you like it! Welcome to the crazy world of bourbon and thank you for supporting the channel.
I definitely agree with the first four categories, but I try not to get too far into the rest. Over time I always become annoyed with the fact that I have these things that I intentionally don't use, wear, or in this case drink.
I like how you explain subjects. I was wondering if you could do a video on American Blended Whiskey. Basically looking for an explanation of why is Vodka allowed to be mixed with Whiskey. Thanks in advance
The short answer is after supply was disrupted by prohibition and conscription of whiskey producers into the WWII effort there was not enough aged bourbon. They put laws on the books to make it possible to blend some whiskey into a neutral base that had other flavorings and coloring added to try to mimic real bourbon. The practice never faded because it is too profitable for producers to do away with it. This explains what it is: ruclips.net/video/ebCJI8vM6cw/видео.html
First of all, I'm one of those new viewers you mentioned in your close, and I appreciated your backstory about your brother. I'm also a veteran, was never in the awful situation he was in, but I feel for anyone who is or has been, and for their families and friends. I will raise my next glass to you and to your brother's memory. I totally agree about coming together over shared enjoyment; I see a lot of sniping and snark in the comments on some channels I follow for various interests...some folks can't seem to let others just like something and say so, without coming down on them for some imagined ignorant faux pas. Suddenly, they're not even talking about the subject at hand. Now, regarding the topic of this video, I would also suggest, as mixers, Four Roses (the flagship, yellow label), even though it's only 80 proof, Evan Williams BiB 100 Proof, and Old Forester Signature 100 proof. Definitely concur on Elijah Craig as a daily-drinker. You can't go wrong, neat, with a splash or a bit of ice. Henry McKenna 10 Year Old Single Barrel is a good Friday Night special sipper; I first became aware of it during a distillery tour in Kentucky back in 2014 and was surprised by it, McKenna not being a serious quaility Bourbon in my mind up to that time. Interestingly, it seems to have become a lightning rod for haters since it won some prestigious awards and the price started going up-imagine that! Either they think it's over-hyped (always a valid concern), or they claim it's not a patch on the OLD, "pre-fire" McKenna 10 Year Old Single Barrel, which is hard to dispute because pre-fire McKenna 10 Year Old Single Barrel is nearly as hard to find as a football bat. In the the Bourbon to Impress selections, I'd lean toward Elijah Craig 18, never been a big fan of Blanton's, no particular reason. Haven't tried the Michter's, although it's pretty available and a former boss used to rave about it. The Weller and Van Winkle I've not run across here, although I believe I've seen the George T. Stagg, but either way, I would probably balk at the price if it was available. For a birth-year Bourbon, jeez, I was born in the 50s...what would still be around and what condition would it be in? On some of the others mentioned, I haven't tried Belle Meade, though it's readily available here in Memphis, haven't run across Rabbit Hole, might have to do a search, and 1792 is already on the "must-try" list. Smoke Wagon doesn't seem to be available here, Stagg Jr, again, not readily available here, but I'll be on the look out. Thanks for another great, straightforward, insightful and informative video; keep working to bring us together with Bourbon!
Love is like water. The only substance that expands when it is cold. Love fills you up when you give it away. Help me spread the love! You can't go broke giving away love! I love you, and you can give love to others. Some how the more you give away the fuller you feel. Cheers!
Very nice man. Love it. Just getting into for real. What’s so funny , been drinking for a long time. 51 yrs. and jack , Jim, and wild turkey were always my go to. Neat iced or mixed. I just did not pay attention to all the different types of bourbon. This is a exciting time.
Enjoyed this video. Thanks for the insight. Recently got my hands on an Old Van Winkle and hope to open it with my son, for a special occasion. Sorry to hear about your brother.
Love the idea of a birthday bottle for your kid. My boys are young and this would be a great thing to share with them when the time comes. Just have to resist the urge to taste them lol.
Wow!! Before today, I had NEVER subscribed to a RUclips channel. However, your videos speak to me. I'm a southern gal with a love for bourbon. Enjoy your genuineness and easy going presentation. Keep'm com'n. Please.
I have a bottle of Jameson 12 yr I bought almost 10 years ago from Jameson distillery with my name printed on the label. It was the first adventure my wife (girlfriend at the time) and I went on. The trip meant a lot to us. Also it is distilled the year I immigrated to USA. So it has a lot of special meaning. I am planning to open it when my son turn 21 which is still 16 years away. It will be a 36 yr old 12 yr Jameson. Back then I didn't know anything about whiskey, Jameson just happen to be my drink of choice (jameson ginger). Now I am older and more financially stable, I am more interested in learning about whiskey and hopefully start a small collection
Fellow Texan (San Antonio) really just beginning my love affair with bourbon. Videos like this are worth their weight in gold for me. And, on the strength of your sign off and the sad but still very cool story behind it, I'm a fan and a subscriber.

How common is Buffulo Trace in Texas? Living in Frankfort, KY right down the road from Buffalo Trace Distillery, Buffalo Trace makes a good daily drinker for me. Also for the price the quality of bourbon is good in my opinion 👍👍
When it hits it is everywhere and easy to find. When it sells out it is impossible until the next release. As a result I buy it when I see it, so with all the bottles I have I pretty much never run out. Cheers!

The algorithm somehow chose to suggest your channel and i liked the video when you explained the birth year bottle. But, that like turned into love.❤️ I so enjoyed the information and girth of knowledge you shared. My oldest sister loves bourbon and I’m starting to appreciate its characteristics. I’m sad to hear about your brother. But thank you for sharing family’s lost.😞I have a cousin, a Vietnam vet, who came home injured and traumatized. He has spent the rest of his life in and out of the VA sedated and having severe flashback seizures still fearing for his and his comrades lives. Trauma is color blind. We are all in this together. Thank you ❤️
Randall, I always enjoy your channel. This segment was great and highly informative. Your sign off today was even more meaningful now that I know the back story. Still look forward to sharing a dram or two one of these days! Sláinte 🥃
From 1 fellow bourbon drinker, linked up to a neighborhood bourbon group, which then linked me to SSW, which now lands me on this channel... bourbon definitely builds community! Love the overall bourbon community, but even more so the one(s) we have here in the DFW area and all the great things that are coming out of it. Great video!
Great video! McKenna 10 year is one of my all time favorites. Any suggestions based off that? Elijah Craig small batch, 1792 and Woodford Double Oak are some of my favorite daily drinkers
McKenna is more of a tropical fruit note. Maybe peach or apricot. Not 100% sure, but it isn't cherry or bananas. I get a similar not on buffalo trace mash bill 2. The younger stuff like benchmark has more of a grape note for me...which I like but not the same. The others like Elmer T Lee, Rock Hill Farms, and all the Blanton's have a similar profile for me, but not as much oak influence. To be honest I can not think of an easy to get whiskey that has the profile of McKenna. If any watchers have a suggestion jump in. 1792 is cherry cough drop and banana runts forward. You can find the banana runts in any Brown Forman product (Jack Daniels, Old Forester, Woodford). The cherry cough drop can be found in any young Buffalo Trace mash bill 1 (Buffalo Trace, Benchmark, EH Taylor Small Batch, etc). Woodford Double Oak is mostly characterized by the influenced of a toasted barrel finish. I find that toasted barrel whiskey is over powered by the toasted barrel flavor, so I am guessing you will love any whiskey that was aged in a toasted barrel. Bigger names would be Makers Mark Private Select, Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel, and Michter's Toasted Barrel. Brown Forman has it's own cooperage and ALL of their barrels are toasted and charred. You might like any Old Forester, Jack Daniel's, or Woodford, although some have more toasted barrel influence than others. You will also find that many craft producers use toasted and charred barrels so they can develop flavors faster with shorter aging periods. Examples would be Belfour Spirits (expensive but beautiful and tasty), Ironroot, Still Austin...most Texas distilleries. Hope this helps!
@@BourbonRealTalk Look for the Brown Forma Coopers Craft 100 proof and in my area it runs just under $30. Opening the bottle, it is alcohol forward, so give it a bit of time then try it again. You'll find that it fits right in with the Old Forrester "Memory Row whiskeys" - flavorful and very drinkable. The 86 proof Cooper's Craft is filtered and has a totally different character - its basically subdued and smooth - think summer whiskey.
You can find them on illegal secondary Facebook groups, or contact a vintage retailer like Brad Bonds with Revival Vintage Spirits www.revivalky.com/about-us

I just found your channel. I subscribed based on this video. Easy to watch and listen too. Your voice isn't like fingernails on a chalkboard. Very professional.
Thanks for subbing! Funny thing is I don't like my voice on camera. Glad it isn't annoying!
Hey, thank you for the explanation on your sign off. I am impressed by the sentiment and your sincerity. I am a recent subscriber and hearing the signoff story moved me. Bourbon channels are an escape for me and good for laughs. Yours has some real substance. What a nice suprise. Cheers and thank you for sharing your story.
Thank you very much!
Love the category you suggest. Sorry for your loss.
Thank you, and thank you for the support!
Burbon beginner here, started wirh jim beam, then 1792 small batch, up to full proof, now ive started trying others. Great channel! Your message and sign off at the end though, that earned the subscribe.
Cheers
Thank you for the support! Cheers!
I'm glad I stumbled on your channel. Thanks.
Me too! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the belle meade suggestion
Glad to be of service. I will say I went there two weeks ago and my experience was discouraging.
@@BourbonRealTalk sorry to hear, but keep up the good work
This channel is one of my favorite for Bourbon. I know you are in Texas, but some of the ones you view are like murder trying to get in Alabama.
I am learning that availability varies wildly across the US. Plenty of good whiskey on the shelf though. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video. Great ending and thanks for sharing your brothers story. Glad I found your channel
Thank you for supporting the channel!
Great video! Awesome info. The Blanton’s you had in this video was dumped on my first sons birthday! What are the odds 😁 wish I could get my hands on that.
No way! What is the birthday? I will check to see what I have. I am afraid I finished that bottle.

Amen brother. Excellent video; nice closing message. I've been a JD junkie for awhile now, but I see there is a whole other world of bourbons/whiskeys out there and I appreciate your straight talk on the levels to try and it made me a subscriber! Thanks and cheers from a veteran from AZ.
Thank you for the encouragement and thank you for your service.
Randy, great story and bourbon selections. Completely agree with most! Wish it was easier to get a hold of some of your choices. Give us your thoughts on a few good ryes. Well done. Keep the clips coming. Thank you!
I have a rye episode brewing.
I love all your picks. I'm 52 and have some bourbon from the 60s now I'll drink it on my birthday. Thanks
That is awesome. Cheers!
Thanks I'm in a similar spot he was my favorite.
Cheers!
Great words, I also lost a younger brother. I hope you and your son enjoy that bottle over loving, funny stories of his uncle.
I hope we do too! Thank you for your support.
Great closing. My brother has a bar in his garage that he and a few others with PTSD use. They know it is a place that they can go when they need to talk. I am working on building mine at my house for the same

Great video. Really enjoyed it as I recently went through and categorized my own collection in a similar way. Sorry for your loss.
I appreciate that!
Great video. Love the birth year bottle idea. Any ideas on how to obtain 1979 (mine), 2000 (my son) or 2009 (my daughter), now, after the fact?
You either need to look at auction sites, contact Brad Bonds at Revival Vintage Spirits, or get on some of the secondary market pages on Facebook (don't ask me for names).

Great video, especially the ending. Keep up the good work of spending information about bourbon and the positive message.
Will do!
Just found the channel. Love it. Thank you.
Glad you enjoy it!
2nd video and you have taught me a lot.
I know if noone else, you and God loves me!!!! My wife and daughter tolerate me...lol
More people love you than you probably realize! Thank you for the support!
I definitely agree with the first four categories, but I try not to get too far into the rest. Over time I always become annoyed with the fact that I have these things that I intentionally don't use, wear, or in this case drink.
That is fair. You can accomplish all of the reasonable goals in whiskey with just the first 4.
This explains what it is:

Great words, thank you
Great Choices! What would you recommend for a 1982 Birth Year Bottle?!
Either get involved in the secondary market or shop with www.revivalky.com and pick up in KY.
Thank you! And thank you for supporting the channel.

Very nice man. Love it. Just getting into for real. What’s so funny , been drinking for a long time. 51 yrs. and jack , Jim, and wild turkey were always my go to. Neat iced or mixed. I just did not pay attention to all the different types of bourbon. This is a exciting time.
That is awesome! So glad to help you on your whiskey journey.
Enjoyed this video. Thanks for the insight. Recently got my hands on an Old Van Winkle and hope to open it with my son, for a special occasion. Sorry to hear about your brother.

Sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing. This was a good video
My pleasure!
Love the idea of a birthday bottle for your kid. My boys are young and this would be a great thing to share with them when the time comes. Just have to resist the urge to taste them lol.
Just buy two 😂

Much appreciated!
Wow!! Before today, I had NEVER subscribed to a RUclips channel. However, your videos speak to me. I'm a southern gal with a love for bourbon. Enjoy your genuineness and easy going presentation. Keep'm com'n. Please.
Wow, thank you!
That is awesome! Glad to have you as a viewer!
Fellow Texan (San Antonio) really just beginning my love affair with bourbon. Videos like this are worth their weight in gold for me. And, on the strength of your sign off and the sad but still very cool story behind it, I'm a fan and a subscriber.

I love your videos! Whiskey in general is such a great thing. My collection is one of my passions and I'm always looking for bottles to fill holes in my categories. It's primarily bourbon, scotch, Japanese whiskey, and various American whiskey.
Keep up the great videos and I love the sign off. You're doing a good thing

Cheers!
New subscriber here. Just found and realllly like your channel. Thank you for sharing your personal story and loss at the end of this video...im sure that wasnt easy to do but i ABSOLUTELY appreciate your words and thoughts on both the power of bourbon to bring folks together AND the power of positivity vs negativity in these crazy divisive times. Thank you ❤️
I love your sentiment! I will do all I can to use brown water to bring people all all walks of life together.

Any time!
So glad to have you!
The world needs more good people like you in it sir ... Keep up the great work !
Thank you! If we all do our best the world will become a better place!
@@JE-western-rider I will look for that at the store. I have not had that one.
