you are absolutely right Yvan, some bad products used everyday and terrible methods. I've used encapsulation carpet cleaning chemicals from local company Actichem for years, most detailers have no idea what encapsulation is. As for the future, my view is - more direct from manufacturer purchasing like I do (pads in bulk is what I do mainly), foam pads becoming more versatile and less grades of foam required, paint changing yet again, dealing with a higher percentage of composites and new types of textiles materials in cars and hopefully more networking between detailers and less bickering. It needs to grow up and think way bigger. hopefully not too much paint failure hehe
Damn, divorce sucks. Sorry you had to to go through it man. Remember; it’s just a phase. Just another season of life and in 3 years you’ll look back and wonder why you ever worried. Burning paint. Yikes. The worst sensation possible haha. Tough to admit to the customers face, has to be done. That’s what insurance is for, they’re always relieved hearing the insurance will cover it. We all want you back Nick. Please revive the channel to a video a week!! Tired of the blowhards out there with mountains of affiliate marketing and arm-chair hobbyist advice. I’m installing (2) 6 year titanium oxide coatings from DPC on a Tesla and an Audi RS3 tomorrow 😁😁😁
2 Coatings in 1 day, awe-some!!! Burning through a customer car's paint happened to me 1 time, at the start of this adventure. That feeling sucks..... Customer took it very well though, and I paid for the repaint, which cost half the money I had at the time 😅. You live, you learn!
@@HawkProDetailing honestly those coatings were like nothin I’ve ever done before! Worked small sections, like 18x18 inch so they took a while to apply. Gloss took about an hour and a half to really gleam through. Hyper slick, ultra gloss! I’ve only seen videos on the water bead but I saw they blow away wayyyyyy better than any traditional wax could provide. It’s extremely easy to sell a customer when you outline they need to wax the car at least twice a year, costs time and money every time (~$75) or the clear coat rots and it costs you when you try to sell it. Give me $1,000, I’ll get 90% of scratches out and you won’t have to wax it for at least 5 years with better gloss and easier maintenance than anyone else! It’s so easy to explain to new car owners and at $150 per 50MLs our margins are fantastic. Paying the rent now!!
Yvan, we love you man, please make as many videos as humanly possibly without burning yourself out. You're a gem to this community and seem so genuine. Much love.
The reality sometimes is that we get so involved in things we like for example detailing. And we want to be able to provide for our family. But we dedicate too much time on one side if it. Divorce sucks. Thankfully my wife knows I get distracted and super focused on things. She has put up with me for over three decades. Nick, love your videos but those kids come first. We can’t have an off balance life and our kids help us to know that! Cheers! 🙏👊👍🏻✌🏼
Hey Yvan, can you use diluted ONR Wash and Shine from a spray bottle as a drying aid on a traditional wash? I don't need it to add protection; I just want it for the aid in drying the vehicle and want to save money over buying a dedicated drying aid with wax/sealants that I don't need every time I wash. Thanks! (By the way, I do rinseless washes sometimes, but I just have more fun with a soap-based wash).
Hi Yvan, Im curious when choosing a name for my detailing business, is it ideal to use my own name? For example “Bernhardt Auto Detailing” or is it best to choose a different kind of name? Thank you!
Divorce is yes a bad period to put a happy face specially when we have kids too. Brother I know exactly how that is and takes a toll personally and with business. Detailing I do it also as a side job.
Thanks Nick and Yvan for the conversation. It was enlightening. Nick thanks for your transparency and hope you do well on your next journey. Remember to always be a good if not great Dad.
Great interview! Nick, thanks for your transparency. It's bound to help others. You definitely have a gift for communication and teaching. I've always liked your channel, and I'm looking forward to the new direction you're taking it. I wish you all the best!
I’m a new business owner (less than a year), with a significant other working towards marriage. These talks are blunt, yet helpful to the reality of getting caught up into your own world. I’m thankful to be able to learn from others so that I can move in ways to avoid such tragedies. Yvan, you and your wife are a golden example of making your life your life and your business your business and i applaud that. Really setting an expectation for us men who spend a few too many hours outside while our significant others are on the inside waiting away for us. Thank you both for candid, open conversation.
Stephen! Thank you so much bro. Just be in tune with her, listen to what she wants. You can decide what to do from there lol but if she's begging to spend more time with you and you keep taking detail jobs (ask me how I know) it will eventually drive a wedge that you might not have the ability to reverse
Great interview guys! Nick, thanks for sharing about the divorce. Got that t-shirt 15 years ago. Still have the scars but without that experience I would not have the amazing relationship that I have now. It gets better. Hang in there man!
Thanks David! I can't imagine learning and growing without the mistakes... how long did it take for you to "heal" so to speak? I know it's not linear, but just curious. I hear a lot of people say that it takes time but at some point if you have kids together it can be very friendly
This was a really great interview. Big fan of Nick's channel and have adopted quite a few of his methods (carpet cleaning, glass cleaning etc). You can feel the passion in those older videos and it was really contagious. It's just a shame it ended in a divorce, but live and learn I guess. Looking forward to more videos from you both!
Great interview! Too short though. Should have been 2 hours minimum. I started following nick for his knowledge of carpet cleaning like he said. I’m a big fan of both of you guys.
What an enjoyable interview to watch and listen to and keep up the good work everyone. Most of us have all struggled with work life balance and I am still trying to figure it out too. I’m looking forward to watching more educational videos and learning something everyday. Keep teaching about carpet cleaning because there are a lot of differences out there no one is talking about. Is the yarn nylon 6, nylon 6,6, or polyester? They all act differently to oil and water based stains but RUclips treats them all the same by applying apc cleaner where the backing gets wet. Thank you for the video.
Neil! Sounds like you know more about carpets than I do lol. When they went into the 5 generations of nylon during carpet cleaning technician training I got a little lost ☺️ thankfully that level of knowledge is not all that important to know for auto detailing

Well stated !
Great interview. You two have a great chemistry and it shows. Appreciate the work that went into this from you both.
Thank you
Thanks nick! Always appreciate a fellow "Nick m" lol
Good info and interview. Nick, you reviewed a tool to hold the door open, what/where can I find that?
@hawk pro detailing?
I loved this video. Nick, I think talking about your experiences would really help other detailers.
Thank you
Thanks man!

Heck yeah! How do you like DPC coatings? I love Scott and his coatings are great IMHO

Good try!
@@Detailers-Business-Academy 😄😄😄yes, I am in the middle of doing my tax returns and couldn't see the notification on time 😄😄
That’s a good reason.

Couldn't agree more! Yvan is the real deal

Amen kevin! Glad to hear you've found a way to navigate marriage and work all these years ✌️
I'm pretty sure Nick is a local Weatherman :)
No, Nick is much more precise.

Yes, but there are much better drying aids that will be safer.

Having your name is good for recognition, and customer connection. That said not good if you want to eventually sell your business.
Nick is really good Yvan, excellent business partner you got.
Thanks

Side jobs are fun until they interfere with real life.

Love that, thanks man 🙌🏼

You did great!

Great content. Excellent insights, even for people who are not detailers - love the honesty and reflection from both of you!
Thank you
Means a lot, thank you!
Great interview! Looking forward to the future of the Hawk Pro Detailing Channel!
Thank you
Thanks!
