Ok interesting to know, the technical info helps me alot! Not fully sure about the brightness and waketime issues yet but I noticed you mentioned you have an Nvidia GPU, and when I searched your AMD processor I saw that it has integrated graphics built in. Is your Fedora installation defaulting to your AMD integrated graphics or Nvidia dedicated graphics? When I used Fedora I almost never had any issues but everyone's experience and hardware is different, my main computer I used back then for Fedora had an Nvidia card but Fedora defaulted to the built in Intel integrated graphics so I never had any weird graphics issues. Yea Fedora is less annoying and more polished with regards to not throwing tons of errors at you for doing basically nothing lol, I love how stable and polished Fedora is. Great to hear everything else is working fine! Also thanks! Absolutely
@@PenguinByte while installing it, when Fedora was in 37, 38 version it used to throw me an error if I install it using my Nvidia card! It almost never opened the anaconda installer! But on Fedora 40, it changed! It clearly opened the installer and everything went smoothly. I didn't have to select safe graphics mode during the boot menu this time!
Both should work fine, Fedora under the hood is still Fedora, so the user experience depends solely on the desktop environments, or atleast it should. I've heard mixed reviews about the KDE spin, some love it while others have buggy experiences with it that they don't have on the flagship GNOME edition. Then again some desktop environments are more stable than others, so maybe those issues were with KDE itself. In general I've had a pretty poor experience with KDE every time I've used it, but if it works well for you, then it should also work well in Fedora. I've never used Cinnamon so I don't know much about it but it should also work fine.
@@PenguinByte I get bored too easily which is why Linux is perfect. There’s a different flavour when I get bored. Fedora tho so far seems to work well for my development work and I need stability for that. Fedora seems solid as a rock.
@@leejacksondev Yeah Fedora is rock solid for stability, Fedora was more stable for me for a year than even Debian was for a month which was interesting lol. And yea I caught the distrohopping fever at the beginning of the year, been hopping ever since lmao
PenguinBytel 1:37 Containerized packages cannot run on multiple architechtures any more than normal packages can, as the libraries and program inside the container are still compiled for an architechture,
There was a mistake during the software install race. Is a very common mistake actually. Fedora has to waste time by getting package metadata over the network. I believe Ubuntu does that too, but is somehow prefetched, or otherwise cached. That means Ubuntu can instantly download the package, and install. Where Fedora is downloading the repo metadata, and gets delayed. This issue also explains why subsequent dnf installs were comparable with apt install. The first time Fedora was slow, but from then forward the operations were effectively fair.
Yeah I know that, I wasn’t fully aware how to not include the prefetching, in hindsight maybe I could’ve cut the fetching out, that was probably the best idea tbh, but I didn’t think of that so decided to make 3 comparisons between the 2, next time I will change that though lol
Nice video, however you opened with a huge incorrect statement regarding Fedora not being related to any other Linux Distribution. The fact is, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Fedora are related projects, with Fedora being "upstream" of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. You can find the relevant information at Fedora Docs under the FAQ.
@@Bruce.ItsYourPC I said Fedora wasn’t based on any other Linux distro, I didn’t say it isn’t related to any other Linux distro, it is related to RHEL and other distros in the Fedora family of course.
I also had weird error messages on Ubuntu. You can disable those messages BTW. But I don't use Ubuntu anymore. Fedora I've never used. Not a fan of flatpaks. MX Xfce is my daily driver.
Ah nice! Hope MX Linux is going well, yea I always get the error messages, wasn’t actually aware you could disable them since I never tried so good to know!
I've been using Fedora since 2003 / 2004, and I've grown right along with it....when it comes to administration on the system? I prefer using the "sudo -i" command?...enter my password?...and then I don't have to type sudo anymore! Its just "dnf command-name[install, remove, update etc]" then I hit enter.
@@CuriousSpy unfortunately the computer I used doesn’t have a GPU, unless that’s also possible with iGPU, never tried it before but I will look into it! Thanks for the suggestion :)
@@PenguinByte i experienced pain for the last 2 months with this tech. So just one advice before you start (when you start) you need either 2 different gpus (nvidia/amd) or gpu with split support (latest intel arcs or professional amd/nvidia)
@@PenguinByte there is good reason why i favour fedora over ubuntu. I noticed when i removed and blocked snaps in latest ubuntu that cannonical seems to be switching most normal packages to snaps so one can assume that cannonical wants official ubuntu to be snap exclusive so removing and blocking snaps in future versions my cause more and more problems and instabilities for system which in turn may result in many derivatives if not all switching over to debian as base, not too long ago kali linux used to be ubuntu derivative but they switched over to debian as base, mint has debian version too because they want to be prepared in case they switch over to debian as base and completely drop ubuntu. Ubuntu used to be good distro before cannonical started forcing snaps. I have ubuntu on my laptop but i am going to replace it with debian. I wanted fedora originaly as my distro of choice but i gave up because if you wanna make custom fedora iso it's nightmare till image builder gets more options and somebody makes proper tutorial how to use it, kickstart file from fedora isn't difficult to make but still no proper tutorials on how to write it.
Linux is easy to use, they said, and then spent 10 minutes explaining how to configure Fedora to work properly. I wish I had come across this video before I tried it for the first time
It usually is very easy to use, usually you can just use it right away, but yea some distros like Fedora are an exception and do require some setup at first for codecs. That's why I hesitate to recommend Fedora to newbies even if I really want to lol
Ubuntu is still full of bugs. Installed it yesterday. After an hour I deleted it and installed Fedora again. It just works ❤ And Ubuntu does not have more Software available on their new snap store.
The Snap Store has approximately 5100+ packages as of 2021 iirc, while Flathub has 2600+ as of today Also yea Fedora has never had issues for me aside from codecs lol, same experience here
@@PenguinByte thanks for your answer. When i search something in the snap store most of time its not available but i can find it on Fedora. Also a lot of snaps are not working after i installed it on Ubuntu. Switched back to Fedora.
@@nemowei5553 Flatpak does have some apps that Snap doesn’t for sure, and I love the libadwaita app ecosystem on Flatpak that includes things like Warp, Parabolic, and others, Snaps don’t have all of them but a shocking amount of them are there, and Flatpaks seem more stable although Snaps usually work fine for me, keyword usually lol. And Fedora is also definitely a lot more stable than Ubuntu
Depends what you mean by RedHat. If you mean RedHat Linux, Fedora was rebranded from “RedHat Linux” to “Fedora” about 2 decades back when RHEL was released, to avoid naming confusion. If you’re talking about RedHat Enterprise Linux, the latest RHEL release forks a Fedora version (usually the latest version at the time that development for the next RHEL release begins), and builds upon that base.
I mean the original red hat Linux branch I can remember buying it in a box at Best Buy and the they created Fedora Core as the free version I believe. I can also remember other distros such as Mandrake being Red Hat based.
For me Fedora is perfect. If for any reason I leave Fedora(very unlikely), I am sure I don't go with Ubuntu because the use of Snaps, I prefer Debian, Mint to Ubuntu and the distros based in Arch too, only rank Ubuntu over Open Suse what really I had errors with the installation and I cannot use.
Container packages are 10x the size of normal packages. If you double-click on a .deb file, you will see that it doesn't work! You can't install a package by double clicking on it. When I was installing Ubuntu, I got an error. Basic installation doesn't even work in this garbage distro. Some things installed and some others didn't I guess. I tried installing Fedora and it didn't even work. LoL. There aren't many customization options on Ubuntu. You need to install Tweaks to customize basic things. Why do you use bozz words? They don't mean anything. Military grade security? LOL.
bakafp: fedora actually does offer military grade security, fedora is something like the testing branch of red hat enterprise, which is used by militaries and SElinux's multi-level policy is made for militaries and other important organizations. Fedora has everything red hat has, but it has a more frequent release cycle and more recent packages.
I never had issues with installing either, could be your hardware not being well supported, not sure. As of recently, you can actually double click deb files in Ubuntu, it used to load endlesssly but now opens just fine in Ubuntu software, or is supposed to.

Thank you for taking your time to reply!
Cheers mate! Keep up the good work 🙏🏼
Ok interesting to know, the technical info helps me alot!
@@Blazing_Alex Awesome to hear! I guess they've made updates to Nvidia support, I gotta check that out now lol
Thank you 👍👍👍
which fedora os have better user exp kde or cinamon?
Both should work fine, Fedora under the hood is still Fedora, so the user experience depends solely on the desktop environments, or atleast it should. I've heard mixed reviews about the KDE spin, some love it while others have buggy experiences with it that they don't have on the flagship GNOME edition. Then again some desktop environments are more stable than others, so maybe those issues were with KDE itself. In general I've had a pretty poor experience with KDE every time I've used it, but if it works well for you, then it should also work well in Fedora. I've never used Cinnamon so I don't know much about it but it should also work fine.
@@PenguinByte whoa, what a pleasant explanation so detail and can you make a content about gaming os distro? (if you have time)
But I use Arch btw
Won't going to repeat everyone's words once again so just, good luck :D
@@Beryesa. thanks lol
Fedora is my daily driver. Love it. And epic video mate. Love it.
Thanks! Yeah I daily drove Fedora for a year and recently for like a month or a bit less, it's by far my favorite distro out of the bunch lol
Great video to send to friends and family. Make a video of linux mint and zorin. These 4 are the most beginner friendly. Keep up with good work

Red Hat Enterprise Linux is actually based on Fedora Workstation, and yes Fedora is sponsored by RedHat :)
Also thanks!
Fedora actually could run on my machine and doesn't have snaps and other weird things so I choose that. GNOME is terrible though got kde.
I think your channel is new but appreciate the quality your channel will grow if you go like this good luck 😊

lmao yea was a bit shocked when that happened 💀

I always install nala on any debian distro, it is an apt frontend that looks similar to dnf.

I prefer using the
"sudo -i" command?...enter my password?...and then I don't have to type sudo anymore! Its just "dnf command-name[install, remove, update etc]" then I hit enter.

@@PenguinByte i experienced pain for the last 2 months with this tech. So just one advice before you start (when you start) you need either 2 different gpus (nvidia/amd) or gpu with split support (latest intel arcs or professional amd/nvidia)
@@CuriousSpy ah ok, my main computer which was repaired just recently has an Nvidia GPU so that may work, although it’s a tad old lol
You should eventually compare debian and fedora, cut out ubuntu altogether. Debian needs more work out the box though.
@@bkThund3r I do plan to compare Debian against Arch soon, and I could definitely do Debian vs Fedora in the future as well
In my book fedora is overall winner.
Even though the tests favor Ubuntu, I agree with you, I personally prefer Fedora much over Ubuntu
I wanted fedora originaly as my distro of choice but i gave up because if you wanna make custom fedora iso it's nightmare till image builder gets more options and somebody makes proper tutorial how to use it, kickstart file from fedora isn't difficult to make but still no proper tutorials on how to write it.
nala is much better alternative to apt...it keeps history like dnf.

On actual hardware, Fedora is a clean 4 or 5 minute install every time. Ubuntu is like installing openSUSE, but worse!
Yeah lol from personal experience I can agree with that
Linux is easy to use, they said, and then spent 10 minutes explaining how to configure Fedora to work properly. I wish I had come across this video before I tried it for the first time
It usually is very easy to use, usually you can just use it right away, but yea some distros like Fedora are an exception and do require some setup at first for codecs. That's why I hesitate to recommend Fedora to newbies even if I really want to lol
I hate fedora installer (bad for a beginner imo) but besides that I think fedora is better
for newbies Fedora's installer can definitely be more confusing, also yea I agree, Fedora is my favorite distro
Ubuntu is still full of bugs. Installed it yesterday. After an hour I deleted it and installed Fedora again. It just works ❤ And Ubuntu does not have more Software available on their new snap store.
The Snap Store has approximately 5100+ packages as of 2021 iirc, while Flathub has 2600+ as of today
Also yea Fedora has never had issues for me aside from codecs lol, same experience here
@@PenguinByte thanks for your answer. When i search something in the snap store most of time its not available but i can find it on Fedora. Also a lot of snaps are not working after i installed it on Ubuntu. Switched back to Fedora.

@@PenguinByte nah i mean the time when my city got tons of thunderstorms back then

Fedora is based on Red Hat.
My bad I just remembered that they then flipped it around and now Fedora feeds red hat my bad.
It’s fine, many people get it mixed up lol
For me Fedora is perfect. If for any reason I leave Fedora(very unlikely), I am sure I don't go with Ubuntu because the use of Snaps, I prefer Debian, Mint to Ubuntu and the distros based in Arch too, only rank Ubuntu over Open Suse what really I had errors with the installation and I cannot use.
Yeah Fedora is my favorite distro lol, while Ubuntu won the tests I would still definitely use Fedora
@@oblivikun 👍
I never had issues with installing either, could be your hardware not being well supported, not sure. As of recently, you can actually double click deb files in Ubuntu, it used to load endlesssly but now opens just fine in Ubuntu software, or is supposed to.
