Dang that's impressive! Just when I think I've seen all of your techniques, you drop a new video and I'm mind blown again! Unreal how fast and effective your serration method is. I don't have the number of customers to justify one of your diamond wheels, but maybe some day. Thanks for sharing 🤙
We will try to keep suprising everyone with new stuff ;)
Man Cliff, your style of teaching is great. Thanks for sharing.
I appreciate that!
You're the man! As always!
Great stuff! It's so important to have the right thickness behind the edge. ❤👍
Im not sure what you mean...sorry?
@@CurryCustomCutlery I was just mentioning that thinning behind the primary bevel (which you demonstrated so well at the start) is so important and often overlooked. When I started sharpening I was guilty of having some very sharp edges but way to much meat behind the cutting edge. Why doesnt my knife cut apples well? It's so sharp😂😅.
Cliff, Thank You.
Nice job!
Thanks!
Good video, Cliff. Nice work!
thank you Gary as always
Nice process Cliff
thx sir, now to get the dust extractor in place ASAP again
9:20 what about small serrations on pocket knives, is there a wheel that has such a diameter or are we using a dremmel at that point?
For extra small, yess Dremel...for the larger serration the 1/4 wheel can sometimes work
Great content as always, Cliff! Thank you for walking through the steps. Which belt sander arm is that you have attached to the bench grinder? I have the one from HF but was looking to upgrade to one that has more common belts.
thank you...not sure which arm you mean but will be doing a shop tool walkthru video soon@!
Nice job from the master sharpener! Yellow felt belt out of stock?
They are coming in soon, next few weeks. I have been testing them solid before offering to customers and they rock!
Have you done the thinning with laying the knife flat? I've been toying around with that lately for knifes that are little more robust then take the angle on the edge higher for strength.
also is do you sell the wheel you attach to the 2x42 that you were using?
We have an excellent series of scotchbrite wheels available on our website
shop.currycustomcutlery.com
Is that a scotch-brite wheel on the opposite side of the 2" belt grinder ?
Yes its a either a p120 or p240 grit special wheel that we offer
shop.currycustomcutlery.com
Our wheels are custom made with a harder density so they last longer and use Alox so they are better
Thanks for beta Cliff!
What’s the new yellow belt?
These are the new felt belts that we are phasing in to replace the white ones that were suffering delaminations. The new one leaves an even better edge and is very durable!
When do you think you’ll have the 1” diamond wheels back in stock?
The factory has been a bit behind schedule it seems. Expected in next 4 weeks...sorry I know
You using the buck tool 2 inch bench sander?
I have been using a 2" machine for many years now in certain aspects of sharpening
I have a club that I started needing to do this for. Do you ever do full thinning(for the entire secondary bevel)? I don't think I've seen that kn anybif your videos
I do full thinnings and assorted reshapings but havent done a tutorial video showing my whole process ...yet :)
@@CurryCustomCutlery looking forward to that one
What's the grit on the 2 "? Did I miss it?
Trizact a30 600 grit. Not your fault I say it so many times that I forget people havent seen every video so they dont know.
I need to mention for sure every time as a courtesy to those watching
What is your belt progression for 1x30? Just curious I’m a 3 belt and strop but would like to become faster as my business pickups. Currently using A65, A30, A6 and leather belt
p120 leading
a30 leading
strop trailing
edge leading allows for this method.
I'm wondering how to handle carbon steel? I tried it on 120 grits and started chipping out. And eat it up too on the belt.
the steel shouldnt matter nearly as much as the angle, the steel hardness, and how much your are applying pressure
The 2 x 48 or whatever it was, was it Edge Trailing you were doing?
Actually, I should ask Cliff if I may please, I know the last 1“ x 30“ was Edge Trailing and maybe the other two 1” x 30” machines were also Edge Trailing but the first 2 x 48 was that Edge Leading?
That was edge trailing yep. Then he went back edge leading on the 1x30s
**and the very last 1x30 with the yellow felt belt was edge trailing.
@@The335plyr
Forgive me if I’m truly trying to digest this.
So first unit 2 x 48 >Edge Trailing.
Second and third unit 1 by 30s edge trailing.
@@Phil.D333 yep you got it!
Nice Job
High praise I appreciate...especially coming from the guy that taught me. AKA the real Master!
Are u selling that yellow belt with the 3 micron?
We have all the microns of emulsions and the brand new yellow felts will all be here in next few weeks. Product testing says they are a super winner!
How do you control the amount of metal dust generated in the shop from the grinding processes?
Its really a great question and I am working to rebuild my dust extraction system right away at the new shop.
You can see its getting out of control
