Pyxis lay even less eggs. Last year I lost 2 pancake tortoises. It went to cold in there enclosure at night and that was to much for them. Really sucked. I had two left and put them in a different room. Lucky for me last month 2 eggs hatched from the pancakes.

It would be great if you also included the average adult size & age expectancy for the animals that you cover in these videos. Also, could you do a video on the hows and whys of brumation in reptiles. Is it necessary? Is it for all reptiles? Is it only for breeding purposes? How long should they brumate? At what temperature? What time of year should brumation begin and end? Does lighting play a role in brumation? etc.
I’ve never seen one of these. Very cool. I was riding my bike along the creek last week and so many turtles were out and about. Painted turtles and those bottle nosed soft shell turtles would be congregating on the banks and logs in the water. It was awesome to see. It’s that time of year, I guess, you know?
My successful self-sustaining bio substrate contains dwarf purple isopods and dairy cow isopods. Both are very fast breeders. And if you have a predatory invertebrate or reptile that need some humidity the isopods make an excellent starter and secondary food source aside from being a great cleanup crew. I feed my isopods slices of raw sweet potato, but they will eat fish food.
My leopard tortoise is super easy to clean up after. She only poops once a day and it's always during her morning bath, so I just dunk the water in the toilet.
Hey Clint! I love your videos and I would have killed to have such an enthusiastic instructor for any of my high school or college biology classes. My boyfriend and I have several small reptiles. After lots of research we recently have decided we are ready and can properly care for a large pet reptile! I have been watching your videos religiously for over a year now and came to the conclusion that a Tegu would be the best option for us. My boyfriend on the other hand was pretty set on an iguana (😳) After showing him your videos on Gus Gus as well as the green iguana.... we now are the proud new parents of a juvenile Red Argentine Tegu! I love our new little guy and can’t thank you enough! If it weren’t for your honest, upfront content there is a good chance we wouldn’t have him, but an iguana instead (which probably wouldn’t have ended well). I was wondering if you would possibly make a video on reptile, particularly lizard, body language/how to properly handle them in a positive way. I’ve been reading as much as I can about our Tegu and how to best “tame” him or get him used to us, but would love to hear your perspective. I have been having a little bit of trouble reading him and have struggled with that with my bearded dragon as well. I obviously would like to avoid negative interactions as much as possible. Keep up all the great work!!
My only fear when it comes to tortoises is how long their life span can be , I couldn't garentee anybody would want to take it from my hands when I'm dying from old age.

This is random but I was wondering if you could possibly do a video on rhinoceros iguanas and if they are a good large lizard to own because I’m thinking about buying one but I’m still not sure if it is a great option or not.
Sparky wraps his back feet around my fingers to hold on when I hold him in my hand so eastern box turtles will hang on when you pick them up. 3 toe box turtles will as well Koopa does the same thing but she doesn't like being handled as much. 3 toe box turtles don't like being handled as much as eastern box turtles generally. Shelly our ornate box turtle is lower to the ground and doesn't climb as well as the eastern or 3 toe. She doesn't hang on because she typically wants to go get away when held. Ornates tend to be more interactive than 3 toe box turtles but not quite as curious or interactive as an eastern but very active. Even though ornate box turtles are more cautious than eastern box turtles they can be quite friendly and interactive. But hands down eastern box turtles are uniquely friendly when purchased at a young age from a reputable captive breeder we purchased 6 month old young turtles. Even though they were well adjusted 6 month olds it took a good 6 to 8 months to get them on a well adjusted varied diet getting proper vitamins and calcium. They are about the size of the palm of your hand at one year old. I recommend getting yearlings after the intense amount of work that is required with 6 month olds. I highly recommend not purchasing hatchlings when it comes to box turtles. I do recommend getting more than one as they are very social and are usually found sleeping stacked under the same half log instead of separated. They group when burrowing and enjoy company. They are extremely cute but don't buy one on a whim for a child because they need a lot of hard work in proper care or you are just dooming a box turtle to a short life. Daily water changes some times multiple because turtles use water to help with bowel movements. Keeping a clean habitat is essential to their health as well as temperature and humidity lighting is important especially UV and times to shut lights down help because turtles are very much active by light of day and sleep as sunset. This is even more important when purchasing a tortoise. They are often from a climate not compatible to most places in the US. Not to mention they need considerable room to roam. Even box turtles like having somewhere near the size of a football field in the wild to roam so consider the amount of time you have as well as yard space secured and free from predators.
So I'm thinking king of getting one I live in idiho so it okayly cold and my house is certainly around 68 73 degrees so would that temptress be ok for it ;)

I'm not to familiar with pancake tortoise but is that nail must be that long?? I mean most tortoise must get their nail trimmed right??
I wouldn't recommend trimming their nails, just providing places where they can wear naturally.
